Looking for information on Edward Ivor Freemantle

I'm looking for information on Edward Ivor Freemantle and his family. Edward Ivor was the son of Edward Freemantle (1853-1905) and Mary Margaret Barrand (1854-1940). Edward Sr. was brother to my gggrandfather Horace Freemantle (1855-?). Edward Ivor was married to Dorothy Butcher and they had 3 children, Mark, Margaret and Richard. I would hopefully like to get in contact with any of the children of Mark, Margaret or Richard.

Hi,

Thanks so much for the information. It's a great help.

I also think I'm related to Andrew's son George, who I believe is my great-great-great-great-grandfather. My family line continues through his son Frederick. I would be interested to know which of George's children your family line comes from.

I'd be interested in any other information you have on Andrew. I've found out a little online about his cricketing career and that he ran the Bat & Ball Inn in Hambledon in his thirties.

It would be good to communicate via email. Are you able to access my email from my profile? Not sure how it works on this site :)

Best wishes,
Gemma
Hi,

I'm happy to share - not sure how much you already know,
Andrew was the son of Nicholas B1734 Bishop's Sutton and Sarah Legget b1734.
Andrew's siblings were as follows:
John b1758 d1831 m Betty Forest 1779
Moses b1760 d1773 aged 13
Aaron B1760 (twin of Moses) m Anne Money 1785
William b1763 d1834 m Mary Osgood 1782
Sarah b1771
Henry b1775 d1850 m Ann Voller 1798 then Charlotte Izead 1819
Nicholas b1781

I have quite a lot of information on Andrew, his son George was my 4x great grandfather. It might be easier to communicate through e-mail.

Let me know what you think!

It may be a long time since I posted the request BUT an answer at any time thereafter is a bonus indeed.
hi again

thanks for the info...i've checked out frederick and yes you are right the marriage you found is too late on.... so that wasnt him. 'My' federick married a lady called jane significantly earlier and Cicely who i am related to was their 7th or 8th child!!! Fred was from Easton Hants and jane from Twyford.
i've now got leads back further via HGS baptism index but nothing concrete ..need to tie up the links

i am new to message boards but they are proving very fruitful so will continue, and i will give those you recommend a try

good luck with your own research and if i can be of any help let me know

best wishes
Sally

Hi Sally,
I didn't say why I happened to see your message. I am doing research for my sister-in law who descends from Hampshire Freemantles, but so far they seem to be from Eastleigh, Chandlersford, Bishopstoke, and the furthest back ones I've found were from Botley.
The marriage I found seems a bit late, as Jemima and Frederick junior were born before 1871. Perhaps Frederick senior was married before.
Are you a member of Genes Reunited? Several people on there are researching your Freemantles.

Also, do you look at Rootschat? That's a good site for members helping each other.
Waiting for a wet day to go to the Record Office. Busy gardening while it's dry.
Regards,
Sheila

Have just looked on the IGI and have found the following marriage:

Frederick Freemantle, son of George Freemantle, married Jane HILLIER, 25 DEC 1871, South Stoneham, Hants.

Do check these yourself.
On the 1881 census there is a Cicely E. FREMANTLE (I think I found it spelt that way) living at Wide Lane, North Stoneham, Hants, with parents Frederick and Jane, and Several siblings. Cicely is age 8 in 1881, so this seems to fit.
Sheila

Hi Heather: I do appreciate your kind researching for our Freemantle family. Florence was my great-uncle's sister. The following info was sent to me by Nan Wallace who is also a relation of Florence's. "On May 16, 1882, Florence (20 yrs old) departed from Plymouth, England for Townsville, Queensland, Australia on the ship 'Hereford'. By 1884 she had moved to Moonta, Yorke Peninsula, South Australia (near Adelaide) where she died on 13 February 1885 at Wallaroo Hospital. She died of pneumonia. Florence never married." We do not know where she is buried - I wonder if there is any possibility that that could be found?
Many thanks,
Lois

Hello Nan

I'm in Adelaide, South Australia and for 10years now I have been offering free research to people who had family come here in the 1800's. I was in the library today and had a look for information about Florence Lottie Freemantle in South Australia.

It is extremely little, but the following is what I managed to find:-

ARRIVALS FROM OVERSEAS.

? (no Christian name given) Freemantle, and wife (no Christian name) arrived in South Australia 25th May 1852 aboard the "Duke of Cornwall".

Elizabeth and William Freemantle arrived in South Australia 23rd August 1850 aboard the "Gipsy Queen".

INTERSTATE SHIPPING.

1. F. & W. Freemantle sailed to Melbourne 17th January 1852 aboard the "Louisa" from South Australia.

2. Mrs. Freemantle sailed to Port Phillip, Victoria 3rd October 1850 aboard the "Gipsy Queen".

I'm afraid that's all the information I have on the surname Freemantle. I hope it is of some interest to you. If you would like me to look up anything/anyone else for you, please
don't hesitate to get back to me at my email address - I'd be very happy to help if I can.

Regards

Heather

Florence Lotte Freemantle

What ever happened to Florence? Born 1862 in Bishops Hull, Somerset, England, her parents Henry and Maria, and brothers Henry Douglas and Oscar immigrated to Canada. Did Florence marry and remain in England, or immigrate to another country? Any help very much appreciated.

Do you have any information on the father of Richard Freemantle who left UK in 1820 to settle in the Albany, Cape Province, South Africa as a member of Mahoney's Party. He was first married to Elizabeth Mitchell and they had three sons: Richard, John and Samuel. Elizabeth died not sure when but probably before 1814 which is when Richard is thought to have married Sarah Kent with whom he went to South Africa. Richard was killed by Kafir tribesmen in 1822. The history of the Freemantles in SA is well documented but we do not know with any certainty who Richards father and mother were although there are a couple of candidates.

Hello,
I realize your post was a few years ago, but I thought I'd take a chance. Have you found anything else on this family line? I have been sifting through the Freemantle Family in Hampshire England for years. My husbands great grandfather was John Frederick Freemantle b. 1844. His parents were William (b. 1810) and Sarah Mertele. William's parents were William and Mary. From there, I can only suppose. I believe that William's parents were William and Mary and that this William's parents are Nicholas and Sarah. John Frederick Freemantle was born in Porchester, his father William was born in Micheldever/Winchester area (verified through 1851 Census Records). If you have any information to help me, I would appreciate it. This is a line that I find very little information about.
Thanks
