My Grandmother, Mamie, had a brother Joseph Freestone. According to the 1910 census he was 16 so I do not think he is the same person you are looking for. I know that Josephs fathers name was William, and apparently Williams fathers name was Isaac. I do not know if this is of any use - just thought I would pass it on.

Linda
as a postscript:- Our findings differ on John Freestone born 1824 at Waltham. The are refences to John as late as the 1881 census still in England.
I have been unable to find any trace of another John born in Waltham near that time and so my conclusion is that he never left England. However i do not have any certs at the moment to prove it
Regards
R Freeston

Sorry if I posted this message incorrectly. please accept my apologies.
I cant help you with your Freestones of launston and tasmania, although i have saved a few to eliminate them from my tree. I believe that your Freestones arrived in Australia c 1800 a full 57 years before my lot, who left for Australia from Waltham on the Wolds in Leicestershire UK.
There is a lot of informatin on these boards, and several extensive trees, but i have found that some are not very accurate and some have your family and mine intertwined

Regards

Ron Freeston.

Sorry Linda but you are incorrect. The family of James Freestone and Mary Knapp do not have any connection to the Freestone family in Tasmania or Launceston. George Freestone b 1821 married Naomi Hebb in Leicestershire U.K. They had 4 children in the UK before moving to Australia in 1857 with them when they disembarked at Geelong were their 3 youngest children. Their first born Mary Ann died in 1848 aged about 10 days on the 1st March 1848. Their second son James b 1851 married Sophia Jane Buckingham in 1882.
Emma Powers is not connected to this tree, neither is John b1828 0r John b c 1800. I have information on James Freestone (sp Mary Knapp) back to the mid 1500s

PLEASE NOTE, THIS WAS POSTED FOR REFERENCE ONLY. I AM NOT RELATED TO, NOR AM I RESEARCHING THIS FAMILY, I’VE ONLY DONE A COPY AND PASTE FROM OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER FYI.

THIS INFO HAS BEEN POSTED WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE EDITOR OF THE COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD.

Rose Freestone
Posted: Wednesday, Sep 05, 2007 - 07:08:52 am PDT
COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON STATE

Rose Freestone died quietly at home in Moses Lake on Sept. 1, 2007, surrounded by loving family members. She was 84. Rose was born on Jan. 7, 1923, in Bedford, Ind., to Lewis and Irene Pryor. She spent most of her childhood in Indianapolis, Ind., and graduated from City Tech High School in the winter of 1940.

She married Charles (Chuck) Freestone in the spring of 1941 and began her married life in Indianapolis. They lived in Oklahoma, New Mexico, California and Washington, finally settling down to raise their family in Ephrata in 1946.

Rose stayed home to care for her six children until the youngest were in school, and then decided to work outside of her home also. After working briefly at the local "dime store" and Sears, she went to work at the Grant County Assessor's Office for John Powers and continued working under Glenn Jolliffe and John Kolve as the Chief Deputy Assessor for many years. She assumed the position of assessor for six months after John Kolve retired and was elected to the position in 1982. She served one four-year term and retired in December of 1986. She loved her work in the assessor's office and remained close to many of the people she worked with for the rest of her life.

Rose was also active in her community and always gave of herself and her time in many ways. She was a member of the Altrusa Club, Women of the Moose and active for many years with the Grant County Democrats. For many years she could be found in the Democratic booth at the Grant County Fairgrounds putting in her time on behalf of the current Democratic candidates. After her retirement she was active with the Retired Public Employees of Washington, serving as secretary for the Tri-Cities chapter.

In the mid 70s Rose and Chuck built their second home "Rosewood" in the McConihe Flats on Moses Lake, about 15 miles south of Ephrata. They spent many happy years there enjoying gardening, fishing and sailing. Rosewood became a great gathering place for all their friends and family. Rose and Chuck also enjoyed traveling after they retired. Following Chuck's death in 1990, Rose relocated to Kennewick, Wash., where her sister Ann lived. The sisters traveled together extensively through the years. Some of the highlights of their travels included trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, Costa Rica and Ireland.

Although Rose had many personal and professional achievements in her life, her family always remained the most important constant in her life. She was truly devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her generous nature was always felt by all, as she rarely missed a birthday, anniversary, graduation or any other special occasion with cards and gifts. Her family truly knew her and loved her.

Rose is survived by her children, Jon Freestone, Ballina, Ireland; Jan Land, Shelton, Wash.; Dave Freestone, Richland, Wash.; Charlie Freestone, Okanogan, Wash.; Rose Hill, Moses Lake; and Susan Schmaltz, Hanover, Md.; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters: Ann McColley, Monroe, Wash.; Mary Steiner, Kenmore, Wash.; and Martha Klontz, Moscow, Idaho. Rose was preceded in death by her husband Chuck of 49 years, and her brother Roy Pryor.

Her family would like you to join them in celebrating her life. The memorial will be held in Moses Lake on Sept. 6, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Kayser's Chapel of Memories, 831 South Pioneer Way. Please come and share your memories.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, National Breast Cancer Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
Looking for information or anyone related to a Joshua FREESTONE that was living with our ancestor, Joshua Brown, in 1850. Both Joshuas were listed born in Indiana and Joshua Freestone listed at age 14 on the 1850 Elkhart Co, Indiana census.
Both had ties to Henry Co, IN, but we haven't figured out if they were related or what the connection was.

Hi Ron,

I think we have got confused somewhere. My direct line is from George and Noami Hebb (daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth nee Greendail). There is another Linda that has replied to me in the past that is related to the Tasmanian Freestones by marriage from memory. My line is through George, (5th child) son of James Freestone & Mary Knapp. George was baptised 4th December 1821 at Walthom. He married Noami on 21st Sept 1846 at Walthom. Witnesses were THomas Hebb (have not been able to determine if this was father or brother) and Richard Snell (parish clerk). Different records show immigration to Australia as 1856 or 1857. I have assumed the departed in 1856 and arrived in 1857 on the Black Eagle. They had eight children with the last four being born in Australia. One of the sons was Thomas. He married Emily Jane and they had 7 or 8 children. I always had seven and then was told of another daughter a few years ago. One of the sons by the name of Edwin James married Nellie Sheppard in 1902. My grandfather was one of their fourteen children. His name was Charles Thomas. I don't remember all the siblings but I remember Charles brother Victor William and of course my grandfather. As kids we called Victor William Uncle Vic. I still speak with Vic's son Graham now and again. My grandfather Charles Thomas had 2 children. The first died as an infant, the other was my father Charles Edwin. We still have the marriage certificate of Edwin and Nellie. My grandfather had quite a bit of information with certificates, service records and photo's. Most of his sibling's had passed away and he was given most of the family papers & some photo's. I am pretty sure we have photo's of Edwin and Nellie. These are now held by my second oldest sister, most of what I have a copies or transcripts. The records we have start at 1790 with baptism of James on 25th April at Grimston. I also have that he is the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Marriott). I do have the info on the Tasmanian Freestone only due to my research showing that the John Freestone (b10.03.1824 in Walthom)in that line was actually Georges younger brother by James and Mary. Mary died at 35 and James remarried to Elizabeth Beaver, their daughter Ann was baptised on 27th Dec, 1831 in Walthom. I have a lot of other information if you are interested. The Australian information is pretty good as a lot of that was done by previous generations, such as addresses people grew up in, occupations etc, strange family stories and business they owned as well as wills. Would like to share information. My email address is lindafreestone@hotmail.com
Regards Linda
