Hello,
I saw your post to the message board at ancestry.com

I hope you can help us.

Velma Nellie Freese/Freeze was born 3 April 1906 in Morrison, Coffee County, Tenn.
the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Freese and Alice Florence (maiden name unknown).

This is the full extent of what Velma's daughter was able to remember about her mother.
Velma died in 1973, the 2nd wife of Earl Beghtel.

Velma had two daughters, but only one survives today.
And she would love to find out more about her mother's side of the family.
She is my husband's cousin...and he is also a Beghtel, Earl being his uncle.

Does Velma, Benjamin Franklin and his wife, Alice Florence fit anywhere in your research...?

Mary Ellen
Florida

Disappearance of William Freeze and Eliza Deboard

My Grandmother was Lena Freeze born September 16, 1899 in Warren Co., Ohio to William Freeze and Eliza Deboard. In the 1900 Census Eliza and my Grandmother Lena and Lena's two brothers, Garland and Russell were living in Vernon Twp., Clinton Co., Ohio with Eliza's parents,Isaac Deboard and Diana Kinnett.

Eliza is listed as married but her spouse William Freeze is no place to be found in the Census. Lena and her brothers Russell and Garland were admitted to the Clinton Co., Ohio Children's Home on September 11, 1903. Lena is next found in the May 10th 1910 Census in Hedgesville District of Berkeley Co., West Va. living in the home of Robert S Noll.

My problem is trying to find out what happened in the lives Eliza Deboard and William Freeze that caused them to have their children put in the Clinton County Children's Home.

Where was William Freeze in 1900 and why was Eliza living with her parents? Where were Eliza and Willim in 1910? Were the dead? Was there a Flue Epidemic? When and where did they die?

Any help or suggestions where to look?
I now have conclusive evidence of the birth place and ancestry for Lena Freeze.

The Register of Admittance of the Clinton County (Ohio) Children's Home (1899-1926) Page 32 contains three entries for the three children of William Freeze and Eliza (Debord) Freeze.

All three were admitted to the Children's Home on September 11, 1903.

Russell Freeze the oldest (born November 18, 1892) was indentured to a Thomas Files of Martinsburg, Berkeley County WV on July 6, 1904.

Garland Freeze (born August 18, 1898) remained a ward of the Clinton Co., Ohio Children's Home until he was 18 years old.

Lena Freeze, (born September 16, 1899) was indentured to Mrs Rose A Noll of Hedgesville, Berkeley Co., West Va. on April 16, 1906 when she was only 5 years old.

Rose Ann Noll nee Wilson was married to Robert S Noll. Rose Ann was a first cousin to Joseph Snyder my (our) grandfather which is where Joseph met Lena when he went to West Virginia to hunt and visit his relatives.

I had previously found Lena in Clinton Co., Ohio in 1900 but did not believe that it could be her because of the distance from Clinton Co., Ohio to Berkeley Co., WV.

What seems strange is why they were sending these orphans to homes so far from the birth place. Was this done to minimize the possibility of them running off and returning to their families??

Robert Longbottom
Portage Co., Ohio

Re: Sarah Jane Granter Freeze

William "Willie" Henry Granter (born Nov 1, 1879 or 1882 in Nevada) married Bertha Adams Oct 22, 1910 in Vermilion County, IL (have copy of marriage license/record). They had 13 children (although several died young or at birth).

William Henry Granter was convicted in Whiteside County, IL around March 17, 1931 and sent to the Chicago State Hospital (for the Insane)originaly called Dunning Hospital on West Irving Park Road where he was an inmate for almost 12 years. He was released from Chicago State Hospital in early July 1943 and sent back to Whiteside County, IL where he briefly stayed in the Whiteside County Home. He was then transferred to East Moline State Hospital for the Insane (alos known as Western Illinois Hosp for Insane or Watertown Hosp for the Insane) in East Moline, IL in Rock Island County.

William Henry Granter in the East Moline State Hospital for the Insane on Jan. 5, 1958, and is probably buired in the State Hospital Cemetery in East Moline.

William Henry Granter's wife Bertha Adams was a sister to my grandmother Ethel Adams Modglin Ryan. I am doing a complete family history of the entire Adams family who descend from Mason Adams and Willie Minerva "Minnie" Norris Adams.

I have little info on the parents and other family members of William Henry Granter (parents William Grenter/Granter- born about 1848 in England and wife Mary J. - born about 1839 in Wales, dau Elizabeth A-born about 1880 in NV- in 19880 living in Mason Valley, Esmeralda Co, Nevada) so would appreciate any info on members of this family who lived in Nevada in the 1880s.

Karen Everdon- keverdon@yahoo.com

Ken,
I was searching for Freese, not actually Freeze. My search got me to a place where I saw Sundance made a correction in the records for Dorma Freese, and it led me to this thread. I don't have any info on their name being listed as Freeze, but it is easy to understand how their could be cross-references.

I have quite a bit of info on Freese going back to 1600's in Maine. If you are interested it it, let me know.

thanks,
rockwood
Red Earth Intertribal Indian Councel

Michelle,
Wow, Younfound an old book with Freese names in it.Where about did you find it and what area did it cover? Dorma - my ggrandfather married Clarinda Blodgett. Her mother, Ida was Shasta Nation, Okwanachu Tribe and her father, Alexander Blodgett was 1/2 Wintone Indian and 1/2 white.

The Freese's came from Maine and ended up in northern CA, the Humbolt county area in the 1850-60. Then they moved down to the Sacramento and Yolo County area. My grandfathers youngest brother is still alive and lives in Sacramento. I live about 30 miles up the foothills in Cameron Park

I have traced Freese back 14 generations to the late 1500's in the US - Maine area. I would LOVE to see copies of the book you found and about finding the book - who wrote it.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Rockwood
redearthiic @ yahoo.com

I would love to find additional family members on either the Freese or Blodgett side.

I am using my friend's account to do this research, so contact me at redearthiic@yahoo.com

Thank you and hope to hear from you. 1-2-07

rockwood

My ggg grandfather, Bingley Mason, married Barbara "Babby" Free in Baltimore, MD in 1792. It is believed that both families were from northwest Frederick County, VA. They raised their families in Frederick County, VA. I am at an absolute brick wall at this point and desire to learn more about the Freeze, Frieze, Frees families in Frederick County, VA. The above spellings were used for the same persons in the censuses. O.K. to contact me directly at masonfm@comcast.net.
