Hi Patti,
My name is Sandy Mechler (nee Frein)and I am the person in our family trying to build a family tree. Running into a lot of roadblocks. All of my father's siblings are gone now and I am the oldest "Frein". The farthest back I have is John Frein who lived around DuQuoin, IL and died in 1901. He was a Union soldier in the Civil War. As far as I know most of them stayed in Illinois. I originally thought they came from Alsace Lorraine but now I think they may have come from Prussia. Do you have any informtion and is there a way I can have a picture of the coats of arms? Thanks for all you help.
Sandy Mechler

Edward John Frein

Hi, I'm doing my best friend's family tree for a bithday gift and I'm way stuck! I know very little, as do all her older family members that I've talked to. We do know this much:
My friend's grandmother's name was Mary Jean Frein, b. 6-30-1931 in St. Louis, Mo., d. 1-19-1993 in San Antonio, Texas. Her father was Edward John Frein, b. abt 1899 in Illinois. I also found him again in the 1920 Census of Montgomery County, Illinois, living with wife (Mary Jean's mother), Isabel and daughter Juanita. I found him living with his mother, Anna M., his stepfather, Joe Radtka, and his brother Henry or Harry in the 1910 Census of Perry County, illinois.
If anyone can give me any more information pertaining to these people, it would be much appreciated! It would really make a great present for my friend!
Gertrude Frein m. to Samuel Dupont, 1880 St Louis MO
In the 1880 census in St. Louis MO, there is a Samuel DUPONT, age 36, occupation teamster, cited as born in MO and father and mother born in MO. His wife is Gertrude, age 37, born in Prussia, which at the time included areas bordering Alsace-Lorraine in France.
There are five children named FREIN in the household also born in Prussia: Annie, age 17; Josephine 14, Louisa 12, Henry 10 and Carrie 7. Josephine's year and place of birth, given name of her mother, residence in St. Louis and occupation as a servant all match known information about my
great-grandmother Josephine FREIN (1866-1949) who married Charles Wesley WILLIAMS 3/12/1888 in Spokane WA.

Does anyone have additional information about this family of FREINS and/or the stepfather Samuel DUPONT?

Dean, can't remember if I have wriiten to you before,so here goes. My Mother was Elizabeth Frein, married to Rudy Kasel. I think you may be son to Joseph Frein from Osage, I.A. Right? I have written one of Wilmers girls (letters) in the past but haven't heard from her for a few years. I'm new to computers so just found this site. Have been in contact with Gail Frein. I have some information but am youngest of four and do not remember where I got some of it or remember meeting too many relatives. I have talked to Bill Frein on the phone a few times and he sent me a picture of the Frein boys in military uniform. Thanks

I must admit, the info you give is not enough for me to see whether or not I can trace your line with mine.

My Frein line ends after my great-great-grandmother Margaretha-maria Frein married a guy called Gillessen - and that was sometime in 1849.

Have you contacted Gail Frein, who has written a message in this board? To my knowledge, she has a substantial Frein ancestry file - maybe she can help.

Sorry, that I cannot help more.

Frein Coats of arms

I am looking for information on my Frein lineage, which stems from Quiddelbach, a hamlet near Adenau in Germany. Adenau is the place, where the German Grand Prix racing track, the Nürburgring is situated.

Quiddelbach is close to the village of Boos - and I have received quite e few informations from friends in the USA, whose ancestors stem from this village Boos.

Up to now, I have not yet managed to get a link to the Boos lineage - and I am looking for as much information as possible.

But this is not the pnly reason for this message. When I was on business trip to Madrid, Spain, I found an organisation offering coats of arms, and I bought a copy of the Frein family.

Anyone interested ? I will gladly e-mail a picture of it (in return for information on the Frein family)
