Diane, if you know that he died in Rutland, VT, can you not request his death certificate from Vital Stats? That would show his parents, sometimes it has cause of death, wife (at least next-of-kin). There's usually a lot of information on a death or birth certificate for genealogical purposes. Also, check the 1920 census records to see if you can find out anything about your grandfather and where he was living.
I don't think these Frenier's are related to my father-in-law's first family.
Good Luck....Sue

Sue:

I have found these updates on my family:

My grandfather was Richard Trask Frenier (b. 1909 and d. 1966) an only son who married a Dorothy (unsure of all her details but I think she may still be alive). He was born and died in Rutland, VT on 3/13/66. He was only 57 years old and I would love to know more of him - why he died, confirm his wife's name, etc.

His father and my great grandfather was Wilfred August Frenier (Canadian) (b. 1878 and d. 1902) married to Bertha A. Trask (I did have contact from her in 1977 but she died in 1975). She was from Ludlow, VT and both lived in Rutland, VT. I found his military registration card online.

His father and my great great grandfather was John Henry Freniere (b. 1853 and d. 1944). He married Marie-Octavie Domitilde Menard in 1872. They had 10 children (this was his second wife): Georges H.A., Henry H., George H., Wilfred (b. 1878), Maxime, Laura Marie, Regina A., Anna V., Leon I., and Clara A. Frenier. Jane (Emma) Stebbbins was his second wife (I found many other Frenier's in a mauseleom in Rutland, VT.)

His father and my great great great grandfather was Isaac Frenier (b. 1826) and his wife was Bibanne Rivard (b. 1826) who was from Quebec Canada.

My goal is to find information on my father: Richard Trask Frenier born Feb. 1936 who would be 71 years old, I think. He was an only son as well. His first wife was my mother: Patricia S. Beaird and I have never met him.

Diane

Hello Patricia;

Are you still looking for info re: Edmund Frenier? I think there may be some confusion. You are Obie's Grandaughter? Obie was Eli's son. Eli was the son of Edmund and Julia Peck. He also had a brother Edmund (My great-grandfather) who was married to Selina Lafond. They had 7 surviving children. I have much detailed info for this family. If you are still interested let me know and I will pass on what I have.

My mother was Esther Mary Guertin. I don't know much about her because she died in 1977. But, I was born in South Attleboro, MA. I believe my mother was born New Hampshire. My mother married Joseph T. Urbank. I don't know much about my family as most have died and/or I don't know where they are. I, too, was told I had Algonquin Indian in my ancestry on the Guertin side. My parents visited Nova Scotia many times and it was one of their favorite places. Don't know how this all ties in, but the names and places cannot be coincidence and I know we our family trees intersect.

FRENIER / CONWAY ..Worcester, Mass

Andrew CONWAY married Rose FRENIER(e) in the early 1900's. Family lore has the wedding occurring in Worcester Mass. Andrew's parents were from Ireland. Rose may have had sisters Diane, Carol and Barbara.
Andrew may have had brothers John and Michael. Michael ran a barbershop in Mass., possibly Cherry Valley or Worcester. Other towns mentioned in family anecdotes are Athol, Leinster( Leicester?) and Leominster

family of Hilaire Eli FRENIERE aka FRINYEA and 2 wives

Your post seems to be referring to this individual:

Hilaire "Eli" FRENIERE aka FRINYEA born May in 1846 or 1850, in New York. He died 28 October 1920.

First marriage, on 1 May 1876 Redford, Clinton county, NY to
Mary Rachel FOURNIER. She is the daugher of Jeremie Laurent aka Jeremiah FOURNIER and Rachel LAMOUREUX. Mary Rachel FOURNIER was born 17 May 1860 and died 11 May 1889.

Children of this marriage, that I know about, are
Marie-Dora (Daura) FRENIERE b. 2 April 1877
m. Edouard William RASSICOT 14 August 1893

Isaac Silas (Isaie) FRENIERE b. 5 October 1878
m. in 1898 to Lina DUROCHER

Adele Nathalie FRENIERE b. 26 March 1880

Emma L. b. ?

Marie-Stella FRENIERE b. ?
m. 19 November 1901 to Ovila MARCOUX

Hilaire Eli FRENIERE was married a second time on 23 April 1895, at Redford in Clinton county, NY, to Emelie VIENS, daughter of Jean-Baptiste VIENS V and Emelia BARRETTE. Emelie VIENS was born October 1849 in New York. I do not know of any children born to this marriage. She was about 46 years old when they got married so it is unlikely.

I do not know for sure, but I have strong belief that the parents of Hilaire Eli FRENIERE are Joseph FRENIER and Judith HEBERT. I am also investigating Joseph Freniere and Salome Sally Freniere (married Louis Benoit Alexander) as possible siblings to this Hilaire Eli. There is an Eli Freniere that is part of this family group but I have not identified him conclusively as the same Hilaire Eli Freniere as married to Mary Rachel FOURNIER and Emilie VIENS.

If you can shed some light on any of these people please post so it can help us all. Thanks.
Hi Pat;

I am responding to a response you gave to someone searching Eli Freniere. I am a descendent of his, too. His brother, Edmund was my great-grandfather. Do you have the records from the Assumption of Mary Church in Redford Clinton County, NY? Or do you know where I can get them? My records indicate that their father was Theophile Frenier who was born in 1832 married to Matilda. I am trying to trace the family back to an Ensign Antoine LaFraynaye who came over from France in 1676 and married Helene Picote in Montreal 23 Aug 1676.

Seeking any information on this side of my family. My paternal great great grandmother was Esther FRENIER (b. 1854 d. 7/7/1930) in South Attleboro, MA. She was married to Joseph HAMEL. Esther had 3 brothers, William, Joseph & Frank and 4 sisters, Mary (who married ? Martin), Julie (who married ? Guertin) and 2 others, who's names are unknown. One married a Nelson Lagor, the other married a Nelson Mero.
I am told that I am Indian on this side of my family, possibly Algonquin. I don't know if it's from the FRENIER's or my gggrandfather Joseph HAMEL. My grandmother had family in Nova Scotia that she visited and I believe it was on the FRENIER side.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any info!
Darlene

I was over visiting my daughter, Beth Ann Frennier Morrissey who now lives at 78 Jackson Ave., Rutland, Vermont and she brought me to a French Catholic Cemetery which is located fairly near there home and showed me a Mausoleum which was built for the J. Henry Frenier family in the late 1920's. The name Dupuis is part of the family that are interred in the Mausoleum. A must see Mausoleum and directly across from it is a large tombstone with the name Frenier. I believe that the Catholic Church there might be able to give you further information. If you should care to you may call me at 518-563-4038 in Plattsburgh, NY

Could you be a little more specific? Where was Eli from and when was he married to Evelyn? I have an Eli from NY married to an Amelia on the census. It specifically says that Amelia was the second wife. No children were listed.
Hi Pat,

This is the only Eli/Hilaire that I was able to find from the Assumption of Mary records in Clinton County, NY. There are quite a few Frenieres in that area. Hilaire's father, Edmond, may be a son of Hilaire Freniere and Marcelline Raymond, but I don't show any records of that. I'll try checking on his wife's name and see what I come up with. I hope this helps:

Hilaire, s/o Edmond Freniere & Julia Peck - born 23 Feb and baptized 19 Mar 1882 - Assumption of Mary of Redford

Hi Pat,
Yes, my name is Pat also.

I'm not sure I understand your post. Do you know about Edmond and Julia Peck? You wrote that he was born in 1886 which would make him too old to be Eli's father, since Eli was born in 1882. Where did you get the other names from?

Hilaire and Marcelline Raymond MAY be his parents. This is not yet proven. Hilaire is the French word for Eli. It's Eli's full name.

Pat
Hi Mike..
You must be Tommy & Cathy's son. I am your 2d cousin. Disregard the e-mail address and name..thats a friend who is letting me use her Ancestry.com account. I'm Mike Bruce. Barbara's son, Shirley's nephew. I have just started on working on this geaneology stuff. Fascinating..but frustrating too.
I have the same 1910 census data..but how did you find the addresses of Baxter St and West St? Dont know how I missed that. Anyway..all I have been able to find so far is Grandpa's (Ulric) DOB July 30, 1903 SSN 008-01-1099 Died in Concord MA June 1965. My Mom, Barbara and her Mother Anna were there with him when he died. They were divorced but my mom and Nana (anna) were just there visiting him at his trailer park when he collapsed and died. There was no funeral. He donated his body to science..one of the Mass Medical schools I presume. Probably the onle way we can find out the exact date of his death and buriel location is to get the death certificate from Concord Mass. It might tell us where his body went and then we can contact that place and determine the disposition of his remains. One other lead I found ..I was poking around the Rutland Clerks Office for stuff and found a marraige record for whom I believe were his Mother and Father. F: Ulric Dupuis M: Marie Freniere Married October 23, 1902. Grandpa was born almost 10 months later. No idea what happened to his parents as he was living with the Freniere's when he was 6. Nana never told me what happened to them..just he was raised by them.
My info:
Mike Bruce
338 Oak Drive
Watertown, CT 06795
E-Mail ltpmb@snet.net Like I said ..disregard the name and e-mail this came under.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Mike Bruce

Stacy and David, I don't know whether you received the message I just had written to you about our very successful Frenier family Reunion here on 8 July 2002. Apparently the Board was unable to connect me correctly so I am going to try and re-write the message. Thanks to your dad, Ronald, who has loaned me what he had collected I will Include it in the family Tree and either you or your dad will get a copy. That is Lord willing I live to finish the work. I am now 75 years old as of 2 July 2002 and the oldest of the living children of Merritt D. Frennier, my father, from the Ellenburg depot, NY part of the family. It will all become clear as you look at the family tree. I won't wite more now but will send you more in an e-mail at your other e-mail address. Cousin, Clarence

Hi,
The Eli Freniere that I have in NY was born in 1850. His second wife was Amelia, I'm not sure who his first wife was, possibly Marthy? Eli had children in the NY area, one of whom may be your Eli. I'm still checking my sources to find out for sure, but will let you know as soon as I do. Have you tried all the variations on the Freniere name? It can be found under Frenier, Freniere, LaFreniere, Frenya, Frenyea etc. The name Eli comes from the French Hilaire.
