If you are an ancestor from Christian Fretz your origine will be probably from my region. our place of orine is a village called Bottenwil in the Canton Aargau (Switzerland) which is just 10 minutes to go from my house. Probably the most Fretz - Families in the U.S. have a swiss origine.

Seeking info on Fretz ancestors from Pennsylvania

I am embarassingly short on information. I am trying to find the family of origin of my GG grandmother Elmira FRETZ. I am not sure of exact year of birth or county but I believe it was 1850 in Pennsylvania. I can only find her listed in the censuses under her married name WILKIN in 1880 NJ and later in NY. The census info and other recrods list her as being born in Pennsylvania, and both her parents born there. Her death certificate lists her father as David FRETZ and mother's maiden name as Eliza WILLIAMS. Any help or ideas on where/how to look would be appreciated. Can not find names of parents in any census records, have also tried name variations with no luck.

I am looking for information on Fannie M. Fretz born 24 March 1879 in Livingston Co., MO. She was the daughter Jacob Fretz and Susan H. Fleming. Fannie married William Willox, son of Phillip Willox and Mary Sheilds on 3 June 1899 in Carrollton, Carroll Co., MO, they had two children: Wilber Edison Willox born 17 Apr 1900 in Dawn Livingston Co., MO and Velma Verlea Willox born 22 June 1904 place unknown. Sometime after 1923 William and Fannie seperated and disappeared. They were living in St. Joseph, MO at the time. No one ever heard from either one of them again. I would very much like to find out what happened to them. If anyone can help, please email me at ronna@inreach.com. They are my mother-in-law's grandparents. Thanks!

I am seeking Charles A. Fretz who married Ethel L. Barrett. It appears the Charles' father was John Fretz, mother could be Hester. In the census, it looks more like Henter and the census index actually has her as Benter, which isn't correct at all.

Anyway, the 1920 census, Vigo Twp, Edwardport, Knox Co, IN has them as follows:
Fretz, John, head, 62, b. IN, laborer, power plant
--------, Henter/Hester, wife, 56, b. IN
--------, Charles, son, 20, IN, laborer, coal mine
--------, Ethel, dau, 20, IN
--------, Mabel, dau, 12, IN
Ethel should actually be listed as daughter in law, as she is the wife of Charles.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find John and Hester in previous census yet. Charles and Ethel were in Flint, MI for the 1930 census. I don't know if John Fretz moved there or not.

It is possible we are looking for the same family?

I am trying to find information on Barbara Fretz, wife of Rev Abraham Longenecker, who is buried at Stauffers Mennonite Church in Dauphin County. I know that there was a Barbara in just about every Fretz family. This one was born abt 1756 and died in 1814. Specifically, I am trying to confirm that she was the daughter of "Weaver John" Fretz of Bucks County, by his second wife. None of the Rootsweb databases have any further info on his daughter, Barbara, which supports the idea that she left the area and settled somewhere else.

The first several generations were born in/near Alsace-Lorraine. Those born in the USA begin with dob 1876 in Philadelphia. One branch drifted to Ogden, UT in early 1900s.

I haven't noticed any familiar names in recent message boards or TREE scans. Any from this branch still around?

I would like to know why
he moved, why he left the Mennonite church and
something about his political philosophy. Was he not a
particularly religous person? (He was my first
descendant who didn't give biblical names to his kids.)
Any other information would be helpful also --
personality, interests, unique abilities, etc. Anything.
Hopefully some older person out there recalls hearing
something about him during their younger days.

Hope this helps. The text of the will of Weaver John (dated 1772) is included in the Fretz Family History, by Rev. A.J. Fretz, c.1890, and includes the following passage:

"And it is further my Will that my daughter Barbara shall have one hundred pounds lawful money out of my estate, and a cow, and a bed, all which she shall have when she comes to age of eighteen"

There is no further info on this Barbara in this Fretz volume, but from that reference she apparently was born 1755 or later.

Johannes or Markus? - father of Christian 1709

Christian Fretz 1709 was been variously reported as the son of Markus Fretz or Johannes Fretz. Both are reported as being the husband of Anna Maria Gross. The "Johannes" connection seems more reported but the "Markus" persists. So does anyone know why the disparity and does anyone have first source references to resolve who the father of Christian was?

Henry Fretz

Trying to find info on Capt. Henry Fretz b. 1830 PA. Married Juliette/Julia (unknown). Daughter, Grace, is my great- grandmother. Grace married Sidney Ambrose DeLair and they farmed and ranched in Comanche Co., KS. Would appreciate any info on this branch of the Fretz family.
