Hi Deb:
The John Frew who helped form the Mountville Church is John Frew (b. 1770 and d. 1853) who was the oldest son of Alexander Frew, Sr., the 1774 immigrant (b. abt. 1737 and d. 1819). This Alexander is also my gggg-grandfather Frew who settled in Slippery Rock Township.
Alexander Frew, Sr. (b. abt. 1737) arrived with a married older brother, John Frew (b. abt. 1735 and d. 1814) who settled in what is now Pittsburgh (Greentree area)and a younger brother, James Frew, who married in Cecil County, Maryland in 1778. Two unmarried sisters, Ann and Harriet, accompanied the brothers.
Alexander Frew (b. 1737) had five children: John, James, Rosanna, Ann and Alexander, Jr. Early deed records indicate that Alexander Frew, Jr., may have been the earliest purchaser of land from Chew as his deed is dated in 1799 and the others a year or two later.
I would be glad to send copies of my family group sheets and research notes if I knew who you were and your relationship.
Cordially,
Bill Frew
