Frews in Ireland?

Just beginning my family research and have become stuck. My Husband's Father William (Bill) John was the son of Francis (Frank) Frew and Hester Bawtenheimer. Info that I have about Frank; Born 1902 in Bellaghy Northern Ireland. He had a brother Andy (Andrew?), Fred William (died in New Zealand married to Cora) and a sister Mary Anne. The only ino about parents are that the mother's name is Elizabeth. Any help getting farther in this Frew line would be appriciated!

Isaac Gilbert Frew

My grandfather Isaac Gilbert Frew was married 3 times, the last time to my grandmother Mary Alice Trainer. Their children were: Grace (married Lloyd Morris), Nina (married ?? Thrasher), William Bartlett(never married), Dave (married ??), Eddie (married Pete Guarisco), Mary (Married John Smiley), Archie (died at approx 4 yrs)Isaac Gilbert Frew lived for a time in Tenn.,I believe for a time in Missouri, in Pigott, Ark.while married to Mary Alice Trainer(their children were born there, they moved to Melville, La where they died, but they and son W. Bartlett were buried in Pigott, Ark. Story is that I.G.F. was the son of an itenerant preacher, he supposedly had a brother James, and their mother ran off with a salesman when traveling with a tent preacher grew tedious. IGF had one daughter with ist wife who died in childbirth, second wife died of scarlett fever. If any of this sounds familiar, I'd love to hear from you.

NEW CASTLE NEWS: Jan. 1, 1929 p.1
J. HOWARD FREW, LEADING MERCHANT DIES AFTER ILLNESS
J. Howard Frew, aged 58, one of the city's most widely known businessmen, died this morning at 4:35 a.m. at his home, 415 East Moody avenue, after an illness due to a complication of diseases from which he had been suffering for about a year. His condition became serious within the past few weeks, death following this morning.
Mr. Frew had been a resident of New Castle and Lawrence county practically all his life, having been born at the Frew homestead on the Frew Mill road, Shenango township, September 11, 1870, the son of James Milton and Alcetha Frew, members of pioneer families of the district.
In the year 1891 when but 21 years of age, he became associated with J. C. Offutt in the furniture business at 131 East Washington street. A little later, in 1893, he became a junior member of the firm of Dunn, Buffinger, Rice and Frew, one of the larger pioneer business houses of the city.
ORGANIZES COMPANY
In 1898 he organized The Frew Furniture Company, as the successor of the Dunn, Buffinger, Rice and Frew Co., Messrs. Dunn, Buffinger and Rice retiring from business. He was president and treasurer of this company, which continued the business on an ever-increasing scale. He continued the business at 131 East Washington street until August 1924, having been continuously in the furniture business at that place for a period of 33 years, an almost unprecedented period of time for a local business concern.
In February, 1924, he incorporated The Frew Company and in August of the same year moved the business of the concern into its present magnificent business location, corner of Mill and North streets, bringing into realization a dream of his more youthful years to give this district something outstanding in the way of a business house.
The Frew building today is one of the finest business structures in western Pennsylvania.
Mr. Frew was known throughout the country, especially in the furniture trades, having visited Grand Rapids and other furniture centers of the country constantly for the past 33 years.
His position in furniture circles was such that his judgment as to style and price were sought constantly in all parts of the country.
IN BUSINESS 33 YEARS
In the 33 years spent in the furniture business his efforts were not alone confined to merchandising, he having been from time to time interested in the manufacture of furniture as well as the selling of the same.
This was not alone the only endeavor of his busy life, he having been interested in the construction of many of the finer homes of this community and also the needs of the city and its people.
Courteous, kindly and always interested, he was most generous in the various calls made upon him for the assistance of various civic objects and needs of the people.
He was also interested in religious, social and fraternal affairs of the community, having been a member of New Castle lodge, No. 642, F. & A. M., the New Castle Consistory, the Lawrence Club, and the New Castle Field Club. He was also a member of the Highland United Presbyterian Church.
Prior to entering business here he spent some time at Grove City College furthering his education, which he had gained in the schools of his home district and was well fitted for his long and successful business career when he entered upon it.
He was married August 9, 1893 to Emma Jane Woodworth, who survives him, having been married for 35 years.
He also leaves two sons, James Ramsa and Howard Milton Frew, both of this city; one brother, Milton Frew, of this city, and one sister, Mrs. P. J. McLean of Aiken SC.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 28, 1929 at two p.m. at the late residence, 415 East Moody avenue, with Rev. O. J. Williamson, his pastor, in charge. Interment will be made in Oak Park Cemetery.

Note: Son is James Ramsey Frew b. 12/23/1895 Newspaper obit has a photo of Mr. Frew

NEW CASTLE NEWS: July 5/9 1907 p.1
MRS. M'MILLEN PASSES AWAY
A Beautiful Ending Thursday Night to a Well-Spent Life---Husband Died 12 Years Ago
At 11 o'clock Thursday night the angel of death came to claim the spirit of Mrs. Elizabeth McMillen, widow of the late James McMillen at her home, 34 Court street. A singular coincidence is the fact that her death came just twelve years after that of her husband.
At 2 o'clock on the morning of July 5, 1895, Mr. McMillen passed away, and at 11 last night, or lacking just 3 hours of being exactly 12 years later, his aged helpmeet breathed her last.
Her death was, primarily, the result of the infirmities of age, and from such ailments she had been suffering for the past two months. About four weeks ago, she fell and dislocated her shoulder, which, in her weakened condition, perhaps hastened the end. Her death was particularly beautiful and peaceful. Surrounded by loved ones, she passed to her long sleep. The last words she spoke were to repeat part of the 23rd Psalm.
Mrs. McMilen was one of the oldest, and most highly esteemed woman of the city. She was born in Slipperyrock township, and had bee a lifelong resident of Lawrence county. She was 85 years, 5 months and 25 days old. Her father, James Frew, was one of the early settlers of Slipperyrock township, and at her home in that township she resided for many years. She had nine brothers and sisters, all of whom had preceded her in death.
Since girlhood, Mrs. McMillen had been a devout member of the United Presbyterian faith. A woman of ready sympathies, warm and loving disposition and charitable nature, she numbered among her friends both old and young, setting an example of earnest Christian character to all. As mother, wife, and friend she ..... well, and her death comes as the close to a long life, filled with deeds of charity and kindness.
She leaves to mourn her loss, two sons, J. Milt McMillen, and Edward A. McMillen with whom she made her home for a number of years. Both resided in this city. Two other children died in childhood.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the late residence and the interment will be in Oak Park Cemetery.

Rosanna Frew Randolph d. 1899 Princeton, Lawrence Co. PA

NEW CASTLE NEWS: JULY 27, 1899
---Mrs Rosanna Frew, widow of the late John Randolph, died in Princeton on Thursday, the 13th at the home of her adopted daughter Mrs. James Law. Mrs. Randolph was the oldest resident of the county, being almost 86 years old. A Princeton correspondent says: "Sixty years of her life were spent here and for the last 30 years she resided in the house in which she died. The Frews came originally from Ireland and settled in Maryland, but about the year 1800, two brothers, James and John Frew, came out to Western Pennsylvania and took up their residence in what is now Slipperyrock township. John, Mrs. Randolph's father, settled on the farm now owned by his grandson, J. H. Frew, and about the year 1801, he married a Miss Hammile, a country woman of his own. To them was born seven children. Alexander, who was the first white child born in Slipperyrock township; Robert, John, Eliza, Rosanna, Mrs. Randolph, Hugh and Murray. Grandfather Frew bought 200 acres of land in this immediate vicinity which he divided between his three children, Alexander, Hugh, and Rosanna. John Mershimer lives on Alexander's farm. Thomas Myers owns Hugh's and Princeton stands on Rosanna's share. John Randolph married Rosanna Frew in the year 1833 and after two or three years residence near Yellow Creek in Butler county, they came to live here. At that time there was but one house within the village limits---a house known as the Cowden house, which was destroyed a few years since by fire---in it they resided 30 years. John Randolph conceived the idea of making a town here so he secured a plot and had it laid out in lots and he called his town Princeton, in honor of Princeton, NJ from whence the Randolphs came. Thus Mrs. Randolph's life is closely identified with the history of this village, for before it existed, she was here.
While she was denied children of her own, yet the motherly instinct was strong in her and she seems to have had one and another to care for and mother during many of the years of her married life. The first child of her adoption was Robert Drake, who married and again she cared for his motherless child until it died. Then from six months old she was mother to Terzah Randolph, Mrs. James Law, who filled a daughter's place and cared for her in her declining years. The century was but 13 years old when Mrs. Randolph's eyes first opened to the light. Looking back over these years of her life time what changes, what revelations have taken place in the world's history---how the world has advanced---old things have passed away and are being forgotten and new things are taking their places every day. To one, who stood by her bedside during the few moments when the heaving breast and labored breathing told that the King of Terrors was laying his icy clutch upon the slowly beating heart, when the long 86 years were dwindling down till only a few seconds remained, to this one came the thought of all that had transpired during the life now closing---the thought that the longest life must end, the thought that death is certainly waiting somewhere for each one and whether prepared or not each one must sooner or later appear before the bar of God to answer for the deeds done in the body.

Note: John Frew 1770-1853 married abt. 1800 Margaret Hamill 1774-1821. John Randolph 1814-1883 s/o Job & Sarah Randolph

James Frew was born in Scotland in 1835; he immigrated to America, settled in Lonaconing (Allegany County) MD, and married Elizabeth Thompson. They had 8 children (James, Robert, David, Janette, Annie, John, Mary, Adam). Sometime after the 1880 census, most of the family moved to southwestern PA. James, Elizabeth, David (unmarked), John, and Adam are buried in Belle Vernon Cemetery; James (son) and Mary (Steinbaugh) are buried in Monongahela Cemetery.

I have 3 questions--
Where in Scotland did James come from?
Did he come alone or with family?
Why did they move to Pennsylvania?

In searching for my relations, I wonder if anyone has a connection with FORREST FREW and his wife MARGARET INGLIS. who were married in Aberdour, Fife, in 1799

Their children were possibly WILLIAM, JANET and JOHN FREW.(1800s?)

William Frew married his cousin JEAN INGLIS (daughter of his mother,Margaret's brother DAVID INGLIS)

William's family, I think were JOHN and FORREST FREW born around the 1860s.

It is possible some of the Frew family went to Canada, but I know there was a Rev.Frew in Scotland and a Mrs Mc/MacNEIL in Perth who were connected too!

Can anybody help me find present day relations?
Farris and Gordon Frew Photo

I have a photo, circa 1900, of Farris and Gordon Frew, from J. Macafee, Atkinson, Ill. Farris is in a ruffled "dress", similar to a christening gown, but appears to be about 6 to 12 months old. Gordon, has shoulder length curls, and is dressed in a dark suit, with a light colored tie. He also has black laced, high top shoes.

It was one of many in a box of memoribilia which belonged to my grandmother, Clara Drusilla Finkle Boggs. The box was left with a friend for my father, when my grandmother went to a nursing home shortly before her death in 1958. She died in Galva, Illinois, although she actually resided in Lafayette, Ill. My father passed away about a year later. I obtained the box from the Lafayette Historical society.

Most of the photos have been identified by other family members, but Farris and Gordon remain a mystery. They may connect on my Boggs side, but also into part of my grandmother's family. Her father was Thomas J. Finkle, a miller born in NY state. Her mother was Rebecca Carlton Sadlier, also from New York.

I would be happy to share these little boys with anyone who knows who they are.

Thanks,
Becky Boggs Vincent

I am searching for information about the Frew family of Western Pa. My grandmother was a Frew, the daughter of Alexander Frew. She had three sisters, Bessie, Sarah, and Margaret. Also two brothers that I know of, Charles and Alexander. They lived around beaver, Allegheny and Lawrence counties. Since I am new to this any help would be appreciated. I keep finding a number of Alexander Frew listings on the internet and am confused.
