I am spetray38's (Sylvia Petray) daughter. She has been ill for the last couple of years and not terribly involved in the family genealogy. As was mentioned earlier, Condie is my mother's great uncle (younger brother of her maternal grandfather). We have plenty of info on the Friddle line and have been working on transferring it to Ancestry from other files albeit slowly.

Dianna Jensen

His wife's name was Fannie, and he did not have a daughter named Matilda. I think you have the wrong Friddles. Could that be possible?

I certainly wish we could help you but it seems we have all hit the same brick wall. We tried for years without success to contact an Anita Friddle Stubbs in Texas who did a Friddle newsletter several years ago. She also traced her ancestry back to the Lewis (b.1780)in Orange Co NC. We think we may be from a George (d.1805 in Orange Co NC)whose will mentioned sons John, Henry, Casper by a first wife and Martin from a second. Martin moved with his mother Mary to Bedford Co TN around 1810. He had a large family that moved on in various directions. We go by Freedle and the earliest we can document is a James (Henry?)Freedle b. 1798 in NC. I will pass your name on to other Friddles I know. It is interesting that there are a number of Freedles who descend from a William Lewis Freedle b. abt. 1830 living in the Thomasville, Davidson Co NC area. There was also a Lewis Friddle b. abt 1828 b. in Guilford Co. NC. Both listed in Civil War records. Good Luck!

Greetings, My mother was a Friddle. Lois Anita Friddle, she was born in 1917. Her mother Mathilda (Matilda) Johnson married a James Arthur Friddle. I have been able to track his birth: July 25, 1895 Thomasville, Alabama. His father was Robert Gaines Friddle who was born in 1871 in Alabama. He married a Lucy Horton (I think) Their children were: James, Rufus, Evy, Condy, Sundre. Any relation? Thank you for any information. Kay Kelly Yechout Philomath, Oregon.

Dear Melody,

I don't know if I am sending this message correctly or not but found your inquiry. I know Edward Dee Friddle, he is my paternal grandfather that I never met. My father, Edward W. Friddle passed away in 1996. I am sure that my dad is the one that called your mother back when his dad died. Edward Dee Friddle had 2 children from his first marriage - my dad and his sister who is still living. I recognize several of the names in your post from hearing my parents talk around the house. If you want to get in touch with me, that is fine.

James Blaine Friddles was the father of James Howard Friddle...his parents were Moses Friddles and Martha Ann "Mattie" Brown. I am descended from James Blaine Friddles younger brother, David Carl Friddle. He was my great-grandfather. They also had a sister July or Julia and brother named Albert that I have further info on. I have been in contact with Lois Vaught in the past but haven't heard from her in some time. I have some pictures and info that I would certainly be willing to share. Please email me soon!

I don't really have any Friddle/Jones info. James Blaine Friddles was the son of Moses Friddles and Martha "Mattie" Brown. They lived in Johnson Co., TN. I know that Moses was probably born in SC in 1826 or so and that he died in 1890 but I know very little about him. He married several times and had a lot of children but I know of only 4 who had further descendants. Only later generations ended up in AL. Most of them came out west. James was planning on coming out west but he was murdered before that could happen.

Carmen Johnson

If you have a membership at Ancestry.com/ a lot of the California records are online (birth, death, marriage). If not, please post here what it is in particular you want to know about this Friddle and maybe someone will respond and offer to do a look up on Ancestry.

Re: Walter Friddle

You are my first cousin. Your father Walter was my daddy's brother, James Howard "Cleaton." They had 3 sisters, Colonia Burnette (married name) from Richmond, VA, deceased, Jessie Landrum (married name) from Blacksburg, VA, deceased, and Bess Cress (married name) from Mountain City, TN. Last I heard Uncle Walter lived in Clearwater, FL. I have a picture of your father and my father sitting in a chair in our home back in the 1950s. The children were in an orphanage and my daddy James was adopted by the Cleatons. Aunt Bessie had one daughter, Lois, whom I've lost contact with. Aunt Jessie had a large family and unfortunately, I don't know them either. Aunt "Toney" (that's what we called Colonia) had one daughter, Lovelene who is in her 80's and still a vital woman. She has 2 daughters and one son (Bonnie, Diane and Kenny). They still live in the Richmond area and I am still in contact with them. We have another cousin that my mother made contact with and I have kept up the contact since my mother's death 2 years ago, but I have never met her personally. Just phone calls. I can't even recall her name off the top of my head; but I have her name address and phone number at home. Your Uncle James (TN) married Bertha Watson (GA) who gave birth to 3 children: James Howard, Jr. (deceased at the age of 7), Mary Elizabeth, age 58 and me Sharon Elise, age 49. Liz and I are the only ones left in our immediate family. Lovelene and her children are the only other ones we know. I would love to contact you, write to you, share photos with you, call you, whatever. I am so excited. Oh, God, I hope you get this reply. I've been wondering whatever happened to Uncle Walter's family and if any of them would even know us and remember us. I have a family photo of the children with their father at the train station just before being sent to the orphanage. Do you know that story? I heard of the story from Aunt Bessie. Please e-mail me back so we can swap bios and other pertinent information.
Your Cousin, Sharon

Yes Ma'am, I do have access to the data bases, and have plowed through them...lol

Well, thats my Great Aunt that I've been looking for, part of the story thus far is true.

She was young, and in Oklahoma....19 years of age. The only thing is, she is buried in Fayetteville, Arkansas. My mothers sister has been there and seen her gravestone..

It always perplexed them why she was buried there...so far away from family? I always took that my Ggrandmother may have had some "stubborn pride" to contend with...lol

I'm going to take your advice and contact the funeral home to see what information I am allowed to have on her...if they still have any. They ought to, since they do have her listed on the website...

I really get annoyed at the lack of information on my mothers side. No one thought to write much down about family years ago, and here I am stumbling through piecing it together....bit by bit. After sixteen years of piecing, its still full of jagged edges........and dead ends.

I do appreciate your help, that is the first thing I have ever seen on Fern, except for the few census's I have found her listed on.

Thank you again, STephanie

Do you have access to the Ancestry.com/ databases and have you seen the census pages on your family: Roscoe and Fern and Fay, etc.?

I just ran "Fern Anita Friddle" through Google's advanced search feature and found her death/funeral information at the Musgrove Merriott Smith mortuary ONLINE from 1929--can you believe it! How wonderful of them to archive this data. This is a Claremore, Rogers County, Oklahoma mortuary. Could it be this elusive "Aunt" of Fern and Fay's lived in Rogers County in 1929?

Evidently Fern was buried in Chester, Arkansas on Monday, October 7, 1929. She was very young and your grandmother was even younger. I wonder why the hush-hush and difference in memories/stories? You have some more digging to do... You might try contacting the funeral home to see if PERCHANCE they still have a record of her death certificate which might tell you the cause of death. I hope so. If she died in Oklahoma, you (as a relative) could get a copy of her death certificate now that you know an exact death date.

http://www.mmsfuneralhomes.com/scheduled-services-archived.a...

So many newspapers are being archived in libraries around the country. There might be a brief article in the paper. The Oklahoma Historical Society has a lot of older papers on microfilm available. But that is assuming THAT part of the story is true. It may not be. I would look for a Chester (or nearby town) newspaper article... Or maybe distant cousins might have been told the story.

I assume you know about Roscoe's burial place online:

http://bit.ly/7SHWju

or

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Fr...;

Hope this helps. Enjoy your research!

Fay was my Mamaw, she married Ollie Douskurt, or Duscart as its spelled on the tree.

Carol Rose is my mother........

Would you know anything of my Mamaw's sister Fern?

Thank you for sharing, Stephanie

Maybe someone can help shed some light on this for me...as stories go......

My Ggrandmother was Ida Florence "Flora" Pace b.Feb 10,1893 in Washington State, married Roscoe E. Friddle b. Jan 18, 1888 d. 1940. They had two children:

My grandmother Fay Friddle Douskurt b. 1916, and Fern b. 1910

They lived in Chester, Ark for most of their lives except for a stint in Kansas. Roscoe is buried in Chester, Ar.

After he died, my GGrandmother come to the Malvern,Ark.. area to be close to my Grandmother Fay and her family.

I remember my Great Grandmother well even though I was about 6 when she died.

But....

I never knew my Mamaw had a sister till I was grown, she was never mentioned while I was a child that I remember, and I've would like to find out what happen to her?

As you all know, there is always a "story" to go along with someone's disappearance.....

And as the story goes: When Fern was about 17 or 18, she was sent to live with an Aunt in Oklahoma?? While there she got sick and died. End of story....Done deal, not to be mentioned again.

My mother believes that she could've possibly been pregnant and was sent off to live elsewhere, and possibly died during childbirth.

Fern was buried in Fayetteville, Arkansas...which was odd as well, because for the most part the Friddle family is buried in Chester, Ark.

I don't know who the Aunt was that she lived with?

And I have wondered why she was buried so far away from the other family? But understanding my Great Grandmother from my childhood and the other "stories" that have been told, it really doesn't suprise me.

After digging around on my family tree for over 15 years, quite a few skeletons have been dug up, this is one more I would like to uncover....

Does anyone know of Fern?

Thank you, Stephanie

I have found Albert J. Heck is the son of Jordon J. Heck and Louisa Snider. She was his second wife, married in 1845. His first wife, Sarah Harrison and he were married in 1840. They had two children, Hannah E. Heck, born 1842, and Ann J. Heck, born 1844. I find no record of a divorce on this first marraige. Ann J. Heck had two children, James Melvin Heck and Dora Belle Heck. Ann didn't marry until after James Melvin was 12 years old. Both of her children carry her maiden name. Ann married George W. Cassaday and moved to Oregan, and had several more children. Am still researching that line, along with Jordon J. Heck and if his father was Peter or one of the others. By naming all thier children the same names in each generation it has made researching almost impossible. It's a good thing I'm nosey and determined.

Jessie: My daddy was your grandmother's brother. Virginia, Shirley, Mable & Guy Jr. are my cousins. I am so happy to meet you. I just found Uncle Walter's kids in 2003. Uncle Walter was also your grandmother's brother. Walter and Jessie were very close. I wanted to meet my new cousins so we had a family reunion at a big group lodge in Alabama in 2003. Mable came, Shirley came, Guy came and all of Uncle Walter's kids came. Virginia couldn't come that year but she was invited. For your knowledge, my daddy was James Howard Cleaton. When the Friddle kids (Jessie, Bessie, Calonia, Walter & my dad) were sent to the orphanage, the "Cleaton" family adopted my dad and Calonia and legally changed their last names. That's why we have a different name. My personal email address is: sharoncleaton@comcast.net. Email me directly some time and let's stay in touch. I'll tell Uncle Walter's kids we found each other. Tell your mother I said hello and that I love her. She will probably remember my sister Elizabeth more than me. I was the baby. We didn't see much of each other after Dad died in 1961. I am tickled to death to meet you. Your cousin Sharon.

Okay....Jordon (Jordan) J. Heck was born 1810 in Pennsylvania. In 1840 he married Sarah (Sally) Harrison in Tennessee. Thier oldest daughter Hannah E. Heck was born in 1842, in Tennessee. She was my great great aunt. The youngest daughter, Ann J. Heck was born in 1844, in Tennessee, and she was my great, great grandmother. I can find no record of a divorce in this marraige.

In 1846 he married a Louisa Snider or Snyder. I can find no record of them having had any children, or a divorce either.

In 1848 he married Eliza Jane Snider or Snyder. At first I thought that maybe these two women were one in the same, but I did find actual records of the marraiges. This is a list of the children that were born to this couple:
Hiram C. Heck, Albert I. Heck, Anna E. Heck, Amanda V. Heck, Peter A. Heck, John A. Heck, Mary A. Heck.

I'm still actively researching the Heck line, and if I find any other information I'll be sure to pass it on, such as who these children married and the names of thier children. I'm fascinated with the whole thing and don't have much else to do with my time. As soon as I figure out what is cutting me off in the middle of my emails I'll send you everything I have so far. Oh by the way I enjoyed talking to you tonight.
No..I'm only related through Jordon J. Heck, who was my great, great, great grandfather from his marriage to Sarah Sally Harrison. He is the only link between us, as you are decended from his marraige to Louisa Snyder. I know it's confusing, and believe me I had a hard time putting it all together too. Check out "Mixed up Family Tree" at Ancestry.com. I've listed ggggrandpa's marriages, I just haven't listed the children of your side of the family.

There are 2 Jessie Friddles in the same family, one a couple of generations back and a more recent Jessie. The Jessie Friddle I actually met is my Aunt on my father's side. Where did your grandmother Jessie live? Sharon Friddle Ibrahim

I am in a way - through Jordon J. Heck. His first wife was Sarah "Sally" Harrison, and their daughter Ann J. Heck is my great great grandmother, also Dora Nevada's half sister. Ann named her only daughter Dora Belle - I believe after her half sister Dora. Ann's son, James Melvin Heck is my great grandgather and Jordon J. Heck is his grandfather. I was interested in this family tree because i am researching Sarah and it looked more promising that any of the others I've checked. And I have several sisters that would be interested in this information.

Susan, following that line of fathers, grandfathers, great gradfathers and such gets a little confusing to me at times. But suffice it to say that if Dora Heck Friddle was my grandmother, then you and I are related. This is so exciting to me. I live in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Are you anywhere close? You may email me directly if you wish. sharoncleaton@comcast.net Let's stay in touch.
Sharon

Susan, are you related to these people in any way? James Blaine Friddle and Dora Nevada Heck Friddle were my grandparents. My father was their youngest son, James Howard Friddle (who whas adopted by the Cleaton family in Greene, Tennessee). Dora died shortly after my dad was born I believe from Typhoid Fever. I may be mistaken about the disease. Grandfather was a single parent of 5 children. Took children to orphanage. The 5 children were adopted in pairs, with the exception of Walter. I believe he either stayed in the orphanage until he became of age or he was adopted by himself. Anyway, I was just wondering if you are related to us in any way. Sharon

I have traced all my cousins from the union of James Blaine Friddle and Dora Nevada Heck (my grandfather & grandmother). They produced 5 children: Walter Paul Friddle, Calonia Friddle, Bessie Friddle, Jessie Friddle and James Howard Friddle, all of whom are now deceased. But we have located their children and have had a reunion. I was wondering if Dora Nevada Heck had any brothers or sisters whose children may still be alive. They would be my 2nd cousins. Also if James Blaine Friddle had brothers & sisters whose children may be alive.

Dora Nevada Heck is the daughter of Jordon J. Heck from his union with his second (Louisa Jane Snyder) married 7-Jul-1846, or third (Eliza Jane Snyder) married 1848. His first wife whom he married in 1840 was Sarah (Sally) Harrison produced two children, Ann J. Heck and Hannah E. Heck. Don't know if you can use this info, but it is interesting.
