I am interested in learning more about David R. Friedley. He was my gggrandfather. He was married to Christina Hoover, my gggrandmother. My ggrandfather was Samuel H. Friedley. Christina and David were married only a short time. Then Christina, her father, and Samuel went to Indiana. Jon Fridley mentioned that David R. remarried Ann Tompkins, but I've not found any information about her. I'm curious about David R. and his life after Christina.

Any info. related to this line would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Nan Friedley

Re: David R. Friedley

Al: My great grandfather was David Rolland
Fridley, son of the Andrew Friedley whom you mentioned (newphew of the David Rolland Friedley the subject in qauestion). Andrew also grew up in Huntington and went with his family in 1851 to Illinois by ship on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers to do some fur trading and was to stay in Bernadotte Il. with relatives. He was struck with cholera in St. Louis and died and placed in the Mississippi River along with a baby son.
The wife, Elizabeth Merritt, also of Huntington, and the rest of the family went onto Bernadotte where she died along with a daughter, both from cholera. That left 3 sons and a baby daughter. The three sons were raised by various families and then met in the Civil War. They changed their name to Fridley.
The David Rolland Friedley you mentioned is buried with my great grandparents in the Oak Woods Cemetary in Chicago along with Capt. Hartley Hatch and Helen Shields Hatch. He died in 1908. For a long while I thought he was my David, ancestor, but now I don't think so.
You had information I did not know previously, namely the Stephens family. Do you know more? For instance Elizabeth Stephens was the niece of Roseanna Stephens wife of another Andrew Friedley and father of Ulrich. She also was from Maryland. Elizabeth Stephens Friedley also had a daughter named Roseanna
Do you have more on either family or where they came from before the U.S?
I have a lot on the Fridly/Fridley/Friedley family which probably was Fridli in Switzerland according to Wanda Smith and Mamika Wolf in the book: "Descendants of John Baker and Anna Maria Friedly", published in Nov. 1998.
Do you know anything about the Merritt family?
How do you fit in?
Friedly/Friedley, etc. in Indiana

Hi all - fairly new to list but hope some of you are talking about the same people I'm searching for. Here goes: My gg grandmother was Kathryn Friedly born about 1830 in Indiana. She married John B. Rego, and moved to Washington State. He originally born in France. The next part is supposition on my part but I believe it's connected. Anthony Rego (I believe to be John's brother) married Nancy Friedley (I believe to be Kathryn's sister. I also think Kathryn had a sister Anna Belle born 6/29/1854 because her daughter is Anna Belle Rego, my g grandmother. Do any of these people, (granted that you've been able to follow my train of thought), sound familiar? Any info or response appreciated. TIA Karen
