Anna Friske (Friska, Fryszke)

I am looking for information on the lineage of my great-grandmother, Anna Friske. We have seen her name spelled as Friska and Friske. When we found her marriage documentation in the Poznan Project, we found it spelled Fryszke. We believe her father's name was Anton. The marriage document is: Ryczywół, Oborniki, Wielkopolskie, Poland Catholic parish in Ryczywół [Ritschenwalde], entry # 4 in 1876 Martinus Smydra alias Szudra (26) Anna Fryszke (26).

If you have any information relating to her, please contact me, either here, or at tonysmydra@hotmail.com

Thank you.

Hello!
My name is Kendall Jennings and Bernard Wilhelm (Ben) Friske was my great-great-grandfather.
Ben's descendants are nearly all in Washington, I believe, and in my research I've also discovered that Emilie (Friske) Dallman's descendants are in Kentucky.
I don't know what information you have, so I'll just give you what I know!
As far as I know . .
Carl Friske d. 1904 m Wilhelmine Zaske Abt. 1860 Prussia (probably Pommern), daughter of Zaske and Manske
She was born 1844, probably also Pommern, and died 1918 in Terrill, IA

Notes for Carl:
Died of a door falling on him

Notes for Wilhelmine:
Came to the US after husband's death in 1904
In 1892 she made plans for sons Bernard and Richard to come to the US. They came aboard ship from Germany together and landed at Baltimore, MD. They took the train for New Ulm, MN. They arrived and got off the train, but as no one had come to meet them they stayed overnight in the depot drinking water from pools of frozen water. They next day someone came for them, probably their sister Bertha. It was also probably Bertha and her husband who sponsored Richard and Ben.

Children:
Emilie Friske b. 1865 Neu Sanskow, Kreis Belgard, Prussia (now Zajaczkowko, Poland) m. Gustav Moritz Dallman 11 Nov 1888 d. 1947 Terrill, Dickinson Co., IA
Bertha Friske m. Heinrich Tuenge 11 Jun 1891, New Ulm, MN d. 1959
Richard Friske m. Mayme
Bernard Wilhelm Friske b. 23 Nov 1877 in Hinter Bollhagen, Mecklenberg, Vorpommern, Germany d. 11 Aug 1961 in Wenatchee, WA
m. Mary Elizabeth Luetjens 23 Sep 1903 Spokane, WA, daughter of Heinrich Luetjens and Wilhelmina Niehaus. She was born 25 Mar 1881 Hannover, Kingdom of Hannover (then part of Prussia, I believe), Prussia d. 20 Apr 1953 Wenatchee, WA

Bernard came to the US 1892, settled in Hamburg, MN. He came to WA 1900 with the Great Northern Railway working as a track layer.
He owned and operated a fruit ranch at Okanogan and Crawford Streets until his retirement in 1953.
Cremated and interred in Cypress Lawn Cemetery, Everett, WA
Burial: 14 Aug 1961
According to my grandpa, Bernard and Mary spoke German to each other, but never to anyone else. He also made kept pigs and chickens and made his own sausage.

I hope that helps! Let me know if you want to know more about our side of the family further into the future, or if you find anything else interesting about Wilhelmina or Carl!
Thanks, Minnesotan relatives!

Kendall

Update On Friske (Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa)

Bertha, Ben, Richard and Emelie (Amelia) Friske's mother was Wilhelmina (Lomina/Minnie)Zaske Friske. She did immigrate to US in 1904. She first went to Bertha's in Minnesota. Bertha is referenced on the ship listing as well Wilhelmina can be found the next year in 1905 territorial census of MN living with Bertha and husband Henry Tuenge. Wilhelmina then went and lived with daughter Emelie Friske Dallman (married to Gus) near Estherville, IA. Wilhelmina is buried in Terril IA cemetery - died in 1918. There are additional siblings listed for Bertha and family pictures -indicating other at least 1/2 siblings. Would like any other additional Friske info to help trace back the pictures and German/Pommern connections.

I have been perusing this site all afternoon & am fascinated to find so much info about my father's family (Marshall R. Friske). His father, Herman Harold Friske (1902-1963) was the son of John Friske & Regina Macus (Markus, Mackus). Much of what you have written was relayed to me by my grandmother, Pauline Stelter Friske before she died in 2004. My family has lived in and around the Oneida, NY area for many years. Once I have merged the information you have presented with my own records, I will be back in touch. meg

This would be exciting if there is a connection. Is it Carl Friske that was your g.grandfather or did you have a Carl Tuenge? Bertha's father would have been Carl Friske, but I would be interested in comparing Tuenge information as well to see if your branch is related to ours. I have information on August and Augusta Tuenge who immigrated from Pommern with their children, the youngest one of which was an 'adopted' son Emil. I still don't know his connections if he was a daughters son out of wedlock or somehow related and they raised him / a grandson or other. This Emil lived in Minneapolis area and had quite a few children although he had lived in another state or two I think when younger or first married maybe.

I do not know much about August Tuenge and Augusta (Schroeder) prior to Minnesota, other than their children and descendents of course and where they are buried etc in Minnesota. I have a wedding picture and a family one with a couple of the older children missing, but it was taken at around the time of immigration - around 1889 or 90? Then a picture or two of them in their older years. My g.g. grandfather August Tuenge died I think in 1900 around West Newton/Fairfax MN and is buried in a rural cemetery there. She lived another 20 some years. Perhaps your Tuenges were siblings or cousins? I'd love to find out more about their generation or other family that came from Germany/Pommern etc. Also, I've found the branches crossed over and there were some cousins marrying cousins which makes it tricky.

I'd be interested in sharing info or comparing notes. I have since found that I think the brother of g.grandmother Bertha out in Washington was Ben Friske (Bernard or Berhard). I have an aunt yet living that visited them while they were stationed out there during WWII years.

Friske Info - Bertha, Richard, Ben, George, Mack, Albert - Minnesota Washington

I am looking for Friske ancestor information and very interested if anyone has similar ancestry in their trees. A great great grandmother was Bertha Friske. She came from Germany (maybe the Pommern area) and went to New Ulm Minnesota area where she married in 1891 in Nicollet County - New Ulm area,MN to Henry (Heinrich Fredrich) Tuenge. They lived in Minnesota at West Newton and Buffalo Lake, Wellington / Fairfax areas until about 1914 then homesteaded / farmed near Perth North Dakota and retired / died at Fessenden, ND area in the 1950's. Bertha Friske Tuenge died in 1959.

Her father was probably Carl, but I still do not know what her mothers name was. I'm not sure if they stayed in Germany or came to US. I know she had a sister Emelia or Emelie that was a Dallmann (Gus) and there was a Ben, Mack or Max, George, Albert, Otto and Richard in the US (not necessarily in that age order). Some siblings were at least originally in Minnesota, and at least one of the brothers lived in Washington still up to 1940s either the Spokane or Seattle area. There may have also been a sister that lived in Washington in the 1940s as well. Pauline (Neuborer), Mathilda and Herman I have possible mention remained in Germany on an obit.

Can anyeone help with any detail? Any of these names show up on anyone's trees? I'm very interested in finding out more about the Friske side of the family, lines, obituaries, immigration / German - Pommern detail, etc.

Hi,
Sorry its taken so long to answer your inquiry about a death certificate for an Emil Friske. I believe my Emil Frisk was born in Ignace, Ontario in 1874. Emil is his middle name. His first name was John. However, I would be interested in what it says on the death certificate you have. My Emil died in Seattle, Washington. He was a professional baseball player who was the winning pitcher for the Detroit Tigers first professional baseball game. You never know, records back then were not always accurate.

Hope you are still at this email address. Thanks for posting on the Ancestry.com Frisk/Friske board.

With warmest regards,

Fran Frisk Lenyo

Elisabeth Friske married Peter Doberstein in around 1826 . Her parents were Chrisoph and Anna Katherine Benke Friske. There was a brother by the name of Andreas, who married Marianna Zuelke. Their children were born in Pogozelec area of Konin,Poland.
They had 4 children: Anna Kristine (who married a Radatz and then a Sommerfeldt) Gottried who married Eva Drews
Karoline who married a Ziewet and Samuel (spouse unknown)
I would be interested to know were your friske are from and would be interested in sharing any possible data.
Wayne: For quick reference were would the two towns you mentioned be located? I did quickly run through the records that I have for Lubstow parish (1808-1833) and though Friskes, no Julius. (Which I would not have expected.based on his birth date.) Would you know Julius 's parents name?
Do you have a copy of his birth record which would tell you ? With my family being in the Sompolno area, I have come across some names that just seem to repeat themselves, and so until I get a 'picture'of area , I keep digging> Hope you don't mind.
FRISKEY

Lucinda, my Friskeys were in MI. Originally Joanna Friskey (that is her married name, I do not know maiden name, yet) came to Sheyboygan WI in about 1850's. THey were in MI for sure by 1865 when one of their sons was born in Superior City, which I am guessing is Superior now. No body can seem to locate the name. They had 12 other children, the next ones being born in IL. Charles Friskey was the husband of Joanna Friskey. Lets hope this is a link. I am desperate for information on them. Looking forward to your reply.

Tana, I have found on the IGI Johann Julius Friske chr 30 th Jun 1944 at Kolmar, Posen, Preussen, with parents Johann Friske and Louise Charlotte Krenz. Also a sister & brother Wilhelmine Ernestine chr 17 th Apr 1842 and Carl Heinrich chr 19 th Aug 1849 both at Kolmar, Posen, Preussen. I have from another lady been told Johann was born at Rogerzen, Prussia. I had a look at a map and these two places are not very far apart. I will try to contact her as soon as I can to ask where she has her info from. I know she is away on holidays so I will get back to you when I know something. Wayne.

I've had that problem too with Ancestry. About all you can do is to delete the tree and upload again with the new email. (That's why I made the Hotmail Account actually -- no matter what I change at home, that account stays the same!)

What's not clear about the Walsh's is when the moved up to Manistee. Perhaps a City Directory, or tax papers might help with that. It's weird that we can't find Paul Friske in any census.

You mentioned that he remarried someone named Emma. Do you know anything about her, or when that occurred?

Do you know if Frances Rudy married Paul Friske in Manistee or Mason Counties? I have found the Rudy family in both places.

Julie (JfwSki@hotmail.com)

Thanks! Sorry about the email problem. Ancestry.com won't doesn't have the capabilities to let me update it plus I can't change it whenever I upload a new tree. They know about this problem and have said they are working on the issue. I just wish they'd hurry up!

Thanks for the tip about the census. I'll have to go back and check it out. I was looking for Bella (a not e) so that may have been the problem. I did find an Edward Friske in the 1920 census as an infant/toddler (this would be the correct age) but he was listed as a boarder. I wonder if he was left with the neighbors or friends for a while before moving in with Belle. The family says they did move to Manistee.

Hi -

Saw your posting in the Family Tree -- filling in some info on the Rudy - Friske Families. (Note: The email listed there didn't work!)

I too have had no luck finding them in the 1920 or 1930 census!

I did find Belle and Harold Walsh -
Belle appears to be a sister to Paul Charles Friske. In 1920 they are in Detroit, MI, in 1930 they are in Manistee, MI. (But I don't see Richard or Edward - Paul's sons - living with them in either census.)

Julie

I am looking for information on Bertha Friske (b. 1903) who entered the USA through Ellis Island with her parents Cristoph and Wilhelmina SAUER. I don't know Wilhelmina's maiden name. The came to eastern Washington state and farmed in the Harrington, WA area. Bertha married Rudolph Sauer (b. 1901; d. 1990). Bertha died in 1995. Any information on this Friske family would be greatly appreciated.
