Angelica Fritcher Davis (Obit)

Published in the Dunlap Reporter 17 Oct 1913 (Iowa)

Death of Mrs. Davis

The death of Mrs. Angelica Davis took place Oct. 10, 1913, at the home of her brother, Simon Fritcher, at Pilot Mound, Iowa. The remains were brought to this place, and the funeral took place Sunday, Oct. 12, from the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor.

Angelica Fritcher was born near Canandaigua, New York, February 14, 1821, where she grew to womanhood. Jan. 4, 1840, she was married to Chas. Petrie, who died Oct. 6, 1847. One child was born to this union which died in infancy. Nov. 6, 1850, her second marriage took place to Daniel Davis, who died May 23, 1888.

Seven children were born to this union, five of whom survive, as follows: Mrs. Jay Smith, Des Moines, Ia.; Mrs. Wm. Towne, Carson Iowa; Chas. P. and John F. of Woodbine, and Wm. H., of Dunlap. Henry J. and Mrs.Irvin Bronson are deceased.

In 1854 Mr. and Mrs. Davis removed to Clinton county, Iowa, where they resided until 1871, when they moved to Dunlap, remaining in the village one year. They then moved to a farm south of town, and remained in this vicinity until the family was broken up by the death of the husband. For several years Mrs. Davis had made her home with her children.

Mrs. Davis was a member of the Methodist church, joining early in life and ever remaining a faithful member, though in her last years she was deprived of attendance to church on account of her feeble condition. She was a woman of character, and in her notive years was a useful member of society.

I question whether Simon was her brother or cousin. Any information about this lady would be greatly appreciated.

The very 1st one was in 1938 in the Henderson school yard. In 1949 it was moved out to Art's pasture where he had a sale barn just outside of town. It was held every summer. The last year was in 1979. I have many articles about Art and Addie. If anyone is interested please let me know.

Hi Kathy,
You and Betty are in the same line of the Fritscher family that settled in the Avoca and Heron Lake areas. My Fritscher family was also in that area, but we are related through an allied line. Betty and I are cousins - of some sort - so I guess you and I are also. I have recently hired a researcher in Studena Loucka and hope to have some additional information to share soon.

I am still searching for information on my Appel and Pelzl lines which are the maiden names of the wives of the two Fritscher brothers that arrived in Minnesota in 1876.

I hope you will keep in touch.
Judy

I spent a day this summer with Theresa's oldest daughter, Lorraine, looking at graves in Avoca, Lime Creek and Heron Lake. Is the information you have other than our Uncle Art's? I have done extensive research on the Fritscher's and would be interested in sharing. Who are your parents in relationship to the Kummeth's? I'll be anxious to hear from you.
Could you be the daughter of Agnes Fritscher and Harry Tscholl?? I am the grand daughter of Agnes' sister, Theresa and her husband Lawrence Kummett.

I have seen information posted on the LDS site that lists Johann Fritscher and Elisabeth Kamler as the parrents of Anton Fritscher (Theresia Reha) but could never find any real "proof". So it is great to finally have that connection.

I have some history that was created in March 1955 by great uncle Arthur J Fritscher. Anton Fritscher and Theresia Reha were married Nov 5, 1821 in Studena Loucka. They had 10-12 children:

Anna b 1824 m. Franz Czepa (?)
Theresa b. 1826; m Johann Ulrich
Barbara b 1828; m. Johann Frank abt. 1855
Anton b. 1831
Franz b.1832; m. Anna Czepa in 1856
Johann b. 1834
Anton Adalbert b 1837 ? or Adelbert b. 1854
Rosalie b 1839; m Anton Mueller abt 1861
Joseph E b Sept 1, 1841; d 1911; m Theresa Hruby
Magdalene b. 1843
Clement b. 1847

Therese Hruby was born in the province of Bohemia Austria in the village of Schahn, near Trevendorf. She had one sister who died single. Ag the age of 2 her parents died of cholera, was then raised by an aunt. At the age of 17 she married John Rintsch and had 8 children. Her husband died in 1866 and two years later she married Joseph Fritscher. They had 5 children. The family immigrated to Avoca MN on Oct 18 1883. She was stricked by pleurisy on Jan 11 1886 and is buried at the old Catholic Cemetery in Avoca. Joseph died of a strok in 1911 and is buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Heron Lake, MN.

I have a lengthy story about the lives Joseph E Fritscher Jr and Theresea Schwager and Amelia Pieschel, including a narrative about the June 30, 1903 tornado that killed Theresa and baby Mary. I have only a few photos of the Fritscher family and am just putting all this information into Family Tree Maker.

Would love to share more with you.
Kathy

Hello Betty,
Yes, we are distant cousins. My relative, Joseph, was the brother of Johann Fritscher who came to Heron Lake Minnesota in 1876. I am still searching for a connection to link them with a father. I believe it was a son of Anton, but have nothing positive yet. They came to America with their mother Anna and their sister, also named Anna. But they came a bit earlier than your Joseph Eugene. They all lived around Jackson county, MN, although some of your line moved for a while to South Dakota. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Judy Fritcher Gibson
My great grandfather was John J. Fritcher, born in Polk township, Bremer County, Iowa, on Jan. 17, 1876. His father was Dennison Fritcher and his mother's name was Amanda. His wife's name was Mable Adeline Farr Fritcher, born April 29, 1879 and died July 28, 1932. This is as far back as the Fritcher side of our family goes. Does anyone have any other info? My grandfather, Alva Fritcher didn't know the location of any other relatives. John is supposed to have had a brother but I have no name. Does anyone have a clue for me? Thanks in advance.
Kim Jones
cymjones@hotmail.com

Reba,

Noticed your ZGABAY and Burleson Co.

I have in my line a LOUIS P ZGABAY (25 Jan 1899 - 12 Mar 1977) that married MARY L DUBCAK (10 July 189? - 19(5) May 1969). I'm not sure of the dates as they were taken from a digital pic I took of their gravestone at the Hranice St Joseph's Catholic Cemetery during my visit to Tx in June. LOUIS and MARY lived in Chriesman Chapel and Caldwell. MARY DUBCAK is the daughter of FRANK and LOUISE (ALOISE) FILLIP DUBCAK. LOUISE (ALOISE) FILLIP is my gr gr aunt. She is the sister of my gr grandfather RUDOLPH FILIP and they are 2 of 5 orphans that came to America in 1880.

At this time I don't have any further information on LOUIS ZGABAY. I'm wondering if LOUIS is related. By any chance are you a daughter or grand daughter of LOUIS?

Anxiously awaiting your reply.

Kathleen Dlabay Makiewicz

I have been told that our name was changed from Fritscher, perhaps by Harry or one of his brothers :Delbert,Bill and Tom. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Lydia Fritcher Cave

I am attempting to prove details concerning Lydia E. Fritcher, b. abt 1866 in Illinois, daughter of William Henry Fritcher and Margaret Ann Springer. We know Lydia married a Mr. Cave. Is she the Liddie Edith who married to Arthur Dellno Cave?
Arthur D. Cave with wife Liddie E. is enumerated in the 1900 Spring Valley twp, Dallas Co, Iowa census. Also there are children Ora and Nathan Cave.

If I am tracing the right family they are found in these Iowa locations:
Dallas Co. – Lydia there with her parents in 1880 census, and then perhaps with husband in 1900.
Clinton Co. – Lydia Cave lived at Toronto, at sometime
Cedar Co. – there is a Liddie, Arthur, and Ora Cave buried in Massillon Cemetery. The tombstone reading shows that Liddie Cave died in 1913.

Does anyone know where Lydia/Liddie Fritcher married (Arthur?) Cave? You may email me at RizerK@erinet.com
