Bigamist Frank Fritz, 1910 New York
This item was in The New York Times on Feb. 11, 1910:
CONVICT HIS OWN LAWYER
Fritz Willing That His Wife Should Annul Their Marriage, but fights Alimony
Frank Fritz, a convict at Bear Mountain, Fort Montgomery, N.Y., has filed an answer as his own attorney in the action for the annulment of his marriage brought by Lillian Fritz. It is alleged that Fritz was married on May 3, 1883, to Marie Fritz, who is still living.
Fritz, who has couched his answer in colloquial English, says he is willing that Lillian Fritz should get an annulment, but opposes "any other relief."
There is a good possibility that this man was my mother in law's grandfather. Her grandmother was Marie Fritz, who was married to Frank Fritz. He disappeared from household census records, and she is listed as a widow. However, I cannot find any record of his death. Perhaps he was deported, or moved, or even changed his name. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
