Francis M. Frizzell (1824/1856), who married Charity Futrell, was the son of Francis and Averilla (Stancil) Frizzell. Averilla's maiden name, Stancil, seems to have previously been a mystery best I can tell, and I hope that I've found something at the Stewart County Archives that will help the Frizzell researchers:
"State of Tennessee, Stewart County - This day Lidia Stancil appeared before me, Henry Ferrill, an acting Justice of the Peace for said county, and made oath that John Taylor, on Friday after the 4th Monday in last October, told her that J. J. Shemwell was in copartnership with her grandson Francis Frizzell in stealing her money, he also told her that J. J. Shemwell was the cause of my trouble, which was very great, but I told John Taylor I would not believe him if he was to swear it until he was as black as the back.
Sworn to and subscribed before me this 6th day of June 1846, H. Ferrill, JP for Stewart County"
The Frizzells are not my line, but I am descended from Averilla (Stancil) Frizzell's sister, Margaret Rebecca (Stancil) Cherry of Stewart Co. If Averilla was born about 1796, then she may have been the eldest child of John and Lydia Stancil, who moved from Pitt Co., NC to Stewart Co. in late 1810.
