I read again your posts in 2001. Since that time, I have made some progress. From my Fronius second cousins, I found out that my great grandfather Johan Fronius was born in Pretai Transylvania in January 1860 and he married my great grandmother by the name of Anna Gartner. She died in United States in 1923. Johan Fronius' father (my great, great grandfather) was Andras Fronius who died in Transylvania in 1896. He married Katharina Martini (my great, great grandmother). She was born in Bussd/bei/Mediasch, Transylvania

Hi Hans,

After more than 6 years, I have more information. My Great Grandfather Johhan (John) Fronius was born on January 20, 1860 in Pretai (Brateiu), Transylvania and died in the 1930 in the Detroit, Michigan, USA area. My Great Grandmother and his wife was Anna Gartner. She was born in 1870 in Transylvania and died in 1923 either in Ohio or Michigan. I do not have information where she was born. My Great, Great Grandfather was named Andras Fronius and his wife's name was Katharina Martini. I do not have information on their birth dates or where they were born or dates when they died. However, I video was sent by a second cousin which had the photos of Andras and Katharina with their son Johan.

I hope that I can still reach you at this e-mail address. Please write back when you have a chance.

Louis G. Mazei

My Grandmother's maiden name was Anna Fronius. She was born in Transsylvania. I believe in Hermanstadt/Sibiu in 1896. She married my Grandfather Bela (William)Mezei in 1910. They moved to Youngstown, Ohio where my father was born. In 1920, the family moved to Detroit, Michigan. Her extended family stayed in Youngstown. As a boy I visited some of my father's cousins, and uncles and aunts there.

Anna Fronius Mezei

My grandmother was born in Hermanstadt, Transylvania in 1896. She claimed or stated that she was Saxon. She married my grandfather William (Bela)Mezei in 1910. My granfather was born in Segesvar (Sighisoara) Transylvania. My grandparents met in Pensylvania and then moved to Youngstown, Ohio where my father was born in 1915. My father was one of four children ( Bill in 1911, Elizabeth in 1913, and Velma in 1917). My grandmother came from a big family. I do not have the names of many of her brothers and sisters. I do know that my Father had Fronius uncles and Aunts in Ohio, particularly Youngstown, Ohio. As a 10 year old in 1955, we stayed with one Great Aunt and a Great Uncle for one night. I remember that he had a German surname. They lived up a hill from another Aunt. I believe her name was Rose. Rose lived across a street from a factory. The next day we visited with cousins of my father and their grandchildren. We also visit another Great Uncle in Akron, Ohio. I believe his name was Steve. My father has stories of visiting his Fronius relatives. One story was traveling by train with an Uncle John. This Uncle died in the late 1920's as a young man. I hope that the above provided enough information to assist your search. Please let me know if I can be of more help.

Fronius

My family also has lost touch with our Fronius side. As stated earlier, my grandmother Anna Fronius was born at either Medias or Hermanstadt, Tranyslvania in 1896 and died in Detroit in 1943. She came over from Europe with an older sister. My grandmother was working as a maid in a house in Penn. when she met my grandfather William (Bela) Mezei. They were married in 1910 and had four children. My grandmother had many siblings, which many settle in Youngstown, Ohio. As stated earlier, I visited my Father's Fronius relatives in Youngstown as a 10 year old in 1955. When I traveled to Segesvar, Transylvania in 1973, I was visiting with my father's Mezei relative when I went out to a coffee shop with a young male relative and a friend of his approach. He was a Fronius and my cousin informed him that my grandmother was a Fronius. Maybe he and I were also related. We went to a elderly lady's house. She took out a six inched bound book. She look in it and found a Anna Fronius but this Anna Fronius was not my mother. In addition, I saw birth dates midway through the book that went back to the 1600s. For that line of Fronius, the back would be a goldmine of tracing ancestry!

Anna Fronius

I have heard that my grandmother was born either in Medias or Hermanstadt. I believe that she grew up in Hermanstadt. As stated she was born in 1896 and died in 1943. It is interesting that your great, great grandmother was born in Segesvar. My grandfather, William (Bela) Mezei was born in Segesvar in 1889. He was one of 11 children. His parents were Josef and Anna Furedi Mezei. Josef Mezei was born to Andrew and Anna Borba Mezei. The Mezei family were Magyars. The granddaughter of Josef Mezei, my father's cousin and her family, is still living in Segesvar. However, we have lost touch with the Fronius family in the United States and Europe. I do know that my father had Fronius relatives in Akron and Youngstown, Ohio. The first and last time that I saw my father's Fronius relative was in Youngstown Ohio in 1955. I was ten years old. Just maybe we may be related through the Fronius line and possibly through the Mezei line since the Mezei's lived in Segesvar for generations. Hopefully, you will respond further!

Grandparents from Sibiu (Hermanstadt)

I was excited to read your message. Yes, I would like to obtain information about the Fronius Family in Europe. In order to determine that we may be related from two to earlier generations back. However, I do not believe that your grandmother Anna Fronius is the same Anna Fronius that is my grandmother. As I stated in earlier posts, my grandmother left with an older sister around 1905. My grandmother was born in 1896 either in Medias or Hermanstadt. She worked as a maid in Pennsylvania where she met and married my grandfather William (Bela) Mezei. My grandfather was born in Segesvar (Sighisoara) Transylvania. They were married in 1910. They then moved to Youngstown, Pensylvania where my father was born and then to Detriot, Michigan where she died in 1943. As stated in earlier posts, my father had aunts and uncles living in Youngstown, Ohio as recently as 1955. I am hoping that some day a Fronius from Youngstown, Ohio would contact me. If you wish to contact me directly, you may E-mail me at lgmazei@aol.com. Hope to hear from you!

Sorry for my late response. I did not visit the board because i lost the link and did not get an information about a response.
I will ask some relatives whether they know your Grandmother and their sister or your grandfather. My father was born in Frauendorf (original name) later called AXENTE SEVER (romanian name) in 1914.
In this area (Siebenbürgen) a lot of Fronius lived. as you might know Medias and Hermanstadt are rather far away and between them there are a lot of villages. Also Anna was a really common name in Siebenbürgen.
Do You have some other informations e.g. where she lived (village)orwhat was the name of their parents?

My great great grandmother was Marie Fronius. I don't know where she lived but my grandmother was from Segesvar and also a saxon. So i assume that Ms. Fronius was from there as well. I don't know her birth date or death but her son - Wilhelm Radler was born 1854 and died 1926. I'm assuming that maybe Marie Fronius might be an aunt of Anna Fronius based on the dates you provided. Hope this helps in your search.
