Well, telling us where they lived at a certain time would be a great help. Are you looking in England, Maine or Ohio or someplace else?

Also in the future, in the subject line, try and put in either the years or location. Such as "Looking for Frosts, Ohio 1880s".
I'm not sure how to do this. I am looking for any info on Frost family members. Here is what I have: Louis Frost, born 1885. His father was James Frost, died 1890, who was married to Alice Hackney who died in 1891. Her siblings were Richard and Frank. James' sibling was Richard. James and Alice's children were Ida Wheatfill, James and Louis. I cannot find anything further back on these people.

I think there is a lot of confusion about the family ties as it is believed that James cooper frost was married to Eliza Fretton (or Alaisa) but there is alot to fix and sought out. I would love to keep in touch and exchange information as I am trying very hard to piece thigns together. take care and hope to hear from you soon.

After his father was killed, his mother was told that she could not afford to take care of all the family and was advised to put a couple up for adoption.

I recently was told that Sherman was adopted by Mary Ann Goodrich and raised in that family.

Does ANYONE know the facts regarding this adoption. I would love to know as I have done extensive research on my family and what happened to him is still a mystery.

Thank you in advance.

I was born Richard Allan Frost, one of 9 children born to Harold Loyd Frost and Trilba Loraine Davis, and a descendant of the frosts of Owsley county Ky. Just as my brother Ron did, I ran into a brick wall at Robert Frost. The owsley county records were burned in a fire a long time ago, and we haven't been able to go any further. I was separated for 20 years from my family, and my research was able to locate them while I was stationed in Iwakuni, Japan in 1974.

The following is my family tie-in

Enoch Charles Frost (grandfather)
Samuel G. Frost
Andrew Frost

m. Bertha Whitehouse
John Whitehouse m. Ellenor Forbes
William Whitehouse m. Ann Crowell
William Whitehouse m. Mercy Roberts

I have a similar problem in that Samuel G. Frost (Enoch's father) was brought up by a Crosby in Argyle. The only possible reason I have come up with is that there was an Andrew Frost who moved from Yarmouth to Rockport MA. His wife died when Samuel would have been 12. My thought is he may have returned to NS rather than stay in MA.

I do remember several of the children of John Whitehouse and I also remember one relative saying that the family' original name was White and that they lived on "Cape Cod" (which originally included Plymouth) and people asking for directions were told to turn at the White house. Don't know how true that is.

Richard

I think we're talking about two different people. My grandmother, Bertha Whitehouse , was married to Enoch Charles Frost. She was born 17 Feb 1883 and died between 1964 and 1967, I don't have the exact date. I do know she was one of 10 or 11 children. I remember a Whitehouse farm in Brazil lake where her brother Osborne lived. Whether that was the family farm or not, I don't know. I know I have other White house info and I will dig that out.

While my grandfather Enoch made a single move to the states and then back to Nova Scotia, my father went back and forth sveral times a year following jobs during the depression (NS-ME-MA-ME-NS)

Please feel free to email me directly

drrfrost@verizon.net

Richard

Hi Richard,

Thanks for replying! My grandfather Arthur Jackson Whitehouse had a first cousin, William Whitfield Whitehouse who lived at Sharp Point, on Roberts Island, Glenwood, NS. My dad remembered visiting the family when he was young and summering on the Island...Whitfield's sisters were named Evangeline, Emma Belle, Emily and Bertha. Dad was born in 1918, so they were all older than he. Would this be the Bertha Whitehouse who married your Andrew Frost? I have many pictures left to me by my grandmother, Emma Louise Whitehouse (AJW's wife) and my dad ID'd many of them before his death, along with tentative dates and time periods. Do you have the dates of birth, marriages, deaths and so on for the folks you mentioned? Mercy Roberts is my g-g-g grandmother, so I guess we are related through her and William.

I never knew the people my dad grew up with, (although I did write to Evangeline a few times about her quilt-making, when I was in high school!) Never met any of the family until after my dad died, and we made a trip to NS with his ashes. Few left by then, and not a Whitehouse in sight...some Rickers, Morrells, Crowells and others.

I know my grandpa Arthur went to Boston as a young man, and worked in a restaurant owned by his father's sister Ida Belle and her husband Archie Morrell, for a time, among other jobs. Seems like a lot of people moved back and forth between NS and MA in those days as your Andrew Frost did. Our Loyalist ancestors, William Whitehouse and others probably left the US under a cloud, but the hard feelings had calmed down enough by their grandchildren's time to let them do this I suppose.

About Whitehouses on Cape Cod, maybe there were some there...my gramma Em's family came from there, her father was William B. Nickerson, and his family settled the town of Chatham back in fifteen hundred and something ! I don't know how Emma and Arthur met, but probably through some family member. All the information I have found about the name was always under Whitehouse...maybe someone shortened it to White at some point. Do you have any clue to the parents of William Whitehouse of Roberts Island? My dad was sure that they came from Dover, NH...it is just a short hop to Kittery, ME where the Loyalist families all seemed to head out from. We met a Robert Whitehouse, now deceased, in Dover in 1994 on our way to NS, who looked amazingly like my late dad, mannerisms and all. Dad had never met him, but had written to him a few times, trying to figure out the family connections. This is all frustrating at times but fascinating too !
Just FYI, I don't believe there were any Whitehouses on the Mayflower, but a cousin of mine found information about the earliest Whitehouse to arrive in the US....Thomas Whitehouse, and his son, Pomfret Whitehouse appear in the area of Dover, NS, about 1653, perhaps earlier. We think there is a connection to the mysterious William Whitehouse of Nova Scotia, that he is descended somehow from Thomas, but have not been able to find the link. If memory serves, Thomas came from the area of Norwich, England....(as did the Nickersons). Jan

Hi Sandi,
I am not sure about who is connected to whom, but I THINK my grandmother was born in Rhode Island, Nov. 10,1893. She was Emma Louise Nickerson, (her father, William B. Nickerson, was born in Harwich, MA) later she lived in Cambridge, MA and married Arthur Jackson Whitehouse. He was born Roberts Island, Glenwood, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia 1883, and moved to the US as a young man, became a citizen around 1910...? Perhaps there was a family connection there, as there are many Nickersons living in Nova Scotia as well as the US....I am not sure how they met. Perhaps they were related. Sorry this is so vague, but all my information is sort of buried at the moment, we just moved! Jan

Hi Jill,
I am looking for information, records, family legends, whatever you might have about my g-g-g-grandfather, WILLIAM WHITEHOUSE of Roberts Island, Glenwood, Nova Scotia. He was born about 1781, and according to family legend, came from NH or ME with his parents to Shelburne, NS, with a number of other Loyalist families as an infant or young child. SOMETHING happened to his parents, and he was "adopted by the family of Jeremiah Frost" and taken to Argyle, NS. This is according to a book written by Abner Jackson Ricker, 1941, A HISTORY OF GLENWOOD AND THE ARGYLLES. No mention is made of who his parents were, where they migrated from, what happened to them, etc. Many descendants of WILLIAM WHITEHOUSE are trying to locate ANY information about this man, since without it, we have no real idea where we came from! Apparently there was not a legal adoption, as William kept the Whitehouse name. He was raised in Argyle, lived out his life on Roberts Island, Glenwood, NS. He married 1st AZUBA LOVITT, had one child, married 2nd MERCY ROBERTS (my g-g-g-grandma) and had another 13 children. Last, he was married to MIRIAM FROST, an adopted sister. William died around 1851 ? (not sure, don't have all my info at hand !!) Another researching member of the Whitehouse family found some information about a former British soldier Joseph(?) Whitehouse, who married Hannah___? and apparently left the US after the Revolution. There was some record of Hannah being involved in a land dispute....common enough if you remained a Loyalist after the Revolution. Many people were persecuted and driven from their land and possessions, sometimes killed outright. At any rate, they ended up on a list of "Shelburne's Poor"...perhaps they were William's parents? I feel sure that Hannah, or whoever William's mother was, was a Frost... perhaps one or both of them died and William was then raised by the Jeremiah Frost clan....can you give me any help here? Thank you, Jan (Whitehouse) Weems sabrakatz@hotmail.com

Hi Sandi,
Thanks, I appreciate any help! Who is the Hannah that you mentioned? Someone else dug up some info that referred to a Hannah being the wife of a Joseph Whitehouse...perhaps the people we are all looking for. William was born about 1781, so his parents would probably have been born somewhere between 1740-1760. That leaves a lot of space I know, but I am still reasonably sure that William Whitehouse's parents, whoever they were, came from New Hampshire, where the first Whitehouse's settled, around 1650, and perhaps later moved to Maine. This is simply due to a word-of-mouth tradition passed down in my father's family....Dad's great-uncle, Abner Jackson Ricker published a book in 1941, A History of Glenwood and the Argylles, and mentioned the adoption of William Whitehouse by the Frosts, and gave some history of Jeremiah and other Frosts, but he left a lot of gaps. If there was Loyalist/Patriot division among the families, (or even religious differences) that would have been a good reason for g-g-g-grandfather William's parents to head for Nova Scotia and their families may have written them off for good, destroyed any personal records of them, etc. Feelings ran pretty high during the Revolution (just as they did later, during the Civil War) and if they lost their land and possessions for remaining loyal to the king, where else could they go? Public/Court/Church records may hold an answer somewhere, or there is a key still held by the Frost family.
My feeling is that our William's mother was almost certainly a Frost...hence, his being raised by the Jeremiah Frost family ...he was never officially adopted that we know of, so perhaps his father was still alive and could not raise the child due to illness, extreme poverty, etc. Please let me know if you find anything that might be helpful! Thanks, Jan

Hi Jill, thank you very much....this could be the one. No one seems too sure of WW Birthdate, it could very well be 1778. And someone else mentioned Brooklyn in connection with WW, but I thought they referred to Brooklyn, Nova Scotia, where there are also records of Whitehouses..... If William's father was a soldier, it is certainly possible he lived in NY even if he was born somewhere else. Is there any mention at all of his forbears? Thank you so much and please keep in touch....I am trying to keep track of everyone I connect with but my computer is giving me attitude and refusing to print anything just now!! Thanks, Jan
