I am trying to discover my Fry roots. My g-g-grandfather was David Hamilton Fry. He was born in 1841 and married Charlotte Shoard in Hardin County, IA in 1864 after being mustered wounded from the Union Army Co. A. 82 Ohio Infantry. They had the following children born in Yelverton, Hardin, IA. Thorton B. (1868), Lyman or Limon Elmer (Nov 4, 1869), Mary April (1878). They had a son named Irvin Edger who may have been misreported in the 1880 census by the name of Erva E. Bowen (1872). This would be the correct year for Irvin. They lived in Empire, Elllsworth County, Kansas. In the 1880 census for Yelverton, IA the only Fry reported living there is a John Fry who was 61 years old, born in OH with parents from PA, divorced and was a soloon keeper. Not sure how or if he is related to David H. Fry. He would be old enough to be father, but gave bp as Ohio and David's parents were born in PA. Do you know if David is any kin to your Thornton? I only live about 25 miles from Elmo, Kansas so if you need me to check anything out on the Thornton Fry family, let me know. Thanks.
