Elizabeth 'Gurney' Fry

Hello,
I have just found out the news that Elizabeth Fry (the prison reformer) is my great x5 grandmother. This also links me to the Fry family (Bristol chocolate makers) and I believe the founders of Barclay's bank, although I am unsure of this. If anyone has any information for me I would be very grateful, and I will help you also any way I can if you would like to share stories and ideas!
Thank you for reading!

GEORGE FREY FRY Sr of Bedford/Somerset Co PA Children's baptism records

Children of GEORGE FREY Sr (FRY, FRAYE, etc) and his wife BARBARA baptized at Berlin German Reformed/ Evangelical Lutheran Church (then in Brother's Valley twp, Bedford Co PA, later became Somerset Co PA):

ANNA MARIA FREY born May 1, 1786, baptized June 14, 1786 Parents: GEORGE FREY & BARBARA; witnessed by Michale Peterman & Margaretha Sebald. ANNA MARIA FREY apparently married GEORGE MICHAEL PETERMAN.

CHRISTIAN FREY/FRY born Oct 21, 1787, baptized Nov 4, 1787; parents GEORGE FREY & BARBARA; witnessed by Christian Ebell & Anna Maria

GEORGE MICHAEL FREY/FRY born Jan 16, 1790, baptized March 13, 1790; parents JOHN GEORGE FREY & BARBARA; witnessed by Michael Peterman & Anna Maria

JOHN FREY/FRY born April 16, 1792, baptized April 19, 1792; parents GEORGE FREY & BARBARA; witnessed by John Wolford, Jr.

GEORGE FREY/FRY Sr & family lived in Brother's Valley twp as per church records & 1790 census, until 1800 census when they are listed in Quemahong twp (sp?) Somerset Co PA. GEORGE FREY Sr supposedly died 1830 in Somerset Co PA, but the will I saw did not match this list of children.

Source: census records & book Church Records of Berlin Somerset County Pennsylvania, translated from German 1929 by E.C. Saylor and transcribed by Helen Hill Greenberg

NOTE: Some researchers have indicated that GEORGE FREY Sr was married to ANNA MARIA "MARY" RHOEHN 1783 in Maryland, but GEORGE's wife is referred to as BARBARA in every church baptism record. Hope this helps!!
I had forgotten all about this and haven't looked at what I put in previous posts regarding FRY.

My sister maintains that they (we) are all related but I am not so sure. She wrote a paper on the FRYs coming to Australia, must have been about 1860 or so. I have a hard copy and will see if she has a soft copy (shes not really into computers) and if she does I will email it to you. She also has a few old photos.

Can you tell me just where to look at your family tree. Can you give me an address to log into, please.

Many thanks

Ian Granland

Hey, Debbie,
I saw that you mentioned your neighbor was researching the Fry family in Indiana. My Frys are from the Johnson Co, IN area. My great great-grandmother was Lucinda Jane Fry (b. 10 Nov 1848 d.5 Apr 1886) who married 1) Samuel Fullen and 2) David F. Hacker (b.abt 1832 d. 13 May 1896). Lucinda's second husband is my great great-grandfather. I know that Lucy was the oldest of 9 kids and her parents were Rudolph Fry and Livania Dresslar (both b. in Virginia; both d. in White River Township, Johnson, IN) but I don't know much about any of her brothers or sisters, except their names and my great-grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Hacker, lived with one of his uncles in Iowa for awhile before he married my great-grandmother.

Any help that I could get on the Frys in Johnson Co, IN would be appreciated.

Grace FRY - born 1892, Maidstone, Kent, England

I am looking for information about my relative GRACE FRY, who I believed left England for America sometime after 1911. She travelled with her neice, DAISY COOPER (b. 1898, Chatham Kent)- who according to family anecdote was in her teens at the time.

Contact was maintained with the family for many years, and there were "American cousins" - Jacky and Nora - not sure if they were the children of Grace or of Daisy. The family in Chatham received parcels from America during World War II and Jacky may have actually been killed during the war.

This is the sum total of my knowledge - I would love to hear if anyone has any information about what happened to these young women when then crossed the pond!

Sally

I have my great grandmothers old photo album. Her name was Matilda "Mattie" Moss Morris. She was married to John Coleman Morris i McLean Co Ill. in 1878. Her album contained a picture of Sarah Jane Beeler Fry, wife of Jeptha Fry b: 1837 Stokes N.C. who were also married in McLean Co. I have been trying for weeks to figure out how the Fry family was connected to my ancestors. I think now with your clarification of Jepyha's fathers middle name being MORRIS that I am getting closer. Thanks. If you have anything else that will help, please help.

I am also researching this family. My direct line is through his brother: Johann Abraham, who married Eva Catherina Kamb/Kamp (d/o David). The family went from Berks county to Northumberland County (now Union & Snyder) about 1796. Probably any Fry/Frey there at that time is related. I have found research in that area very difficult. From what I have been able to piece together, they were some of the first settlers in the Buffalo Valley...sort of. Previous attempts to settle there were abandoned about 1755-1756 due to Indian attacks/massacres. These are old posts,so hope somebody gets this! Vicki

I am trying to locate the parents of Samuel Fry born in Pa or Ohio in about 1830. He married Elizabeth Jane Smith in 1851 in Seneca, Ohio. Children include James Franklin Fry b.1852 (m. Henrietta Day, and Josephine Ramsdell)), daughter Synni Fry b.1853 (m. J. H. Crossman) and Catherine Fry b. 1855. Census states both of Samuel's parents were born in Pa. He later lived in the Tama, Iowa area.
Any connections out there?
Edward Maiben Fry

My great grandfather, Edward Maiben FRY (parents Edward Dawson FRY (1873-1954) & Esther Maiben ROE (1879-1909)) was born in Dublin on 28 April 1902. He married Ada Elizabeth GUY on 15 Oct 1926 in Ilford, Essex. The next reference I am aware of is his grave at Redford Cemetry, County Wicklow, Ireland which states that he died in 1992. The grave also contains the remains of his wife Neta (1912-1993). I know Ada Elizabeth was still alive in 1974. I would be very grateful if anyone had any information realting to Edward Maiben Fry and what happened to him between 1926 and his death or has any other information relating to this part of my family tree.

I have uploaded a GEDCOM of the Fry-Schramm-Allum families from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland, as well as Germany. I really know very little about these families and cannot verify the information. What is presented is based entirely on my father's statements. What makes this difficult is that his statements do not coincide with documents I saw as a young man.

James Leroy Fry [1871-1945] and Emma Elizabeth Schramm [1875-1952] were my grandparents. I am not certain about their parents.

If anyone has any corroborating information, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you!

HI. It looks like its been a while since you last visited the site. I have some information about John Fry who had two sons, Cornelius Fry and Andrew Fry.

According to the family records I have John Fry was born in 1765 in Oberdigisheim, Schwrtzwald, Wuerttemberg, Germany, and died in Harrodsburg, Pa.

In the book "Portrait and Biographical Album of Champaign County, IL," states John was "quite young when his parents (who are not named) came to this country. He was reared to farm pursuits, which he prosecuted mostly near the homestead of his father in Pennsylvania, but spent the last years of this life near Harrodsburg. he was a man of great force of character, self educated, and of more than ordinary ability. He represented his county in the State Legislature and took an active interest in the affairs of his State and Nation at large."

I'm in the process of taking to track down John's time in the Pennsylvania legislature.

I also have information regarding Cornelius Fry and his ancestors as well.

Matthew Fry
mattfry@comcast.net
