fryAR/ fryER/ frIER/ frIAR/ FREER/ North Carolinians

Sampson County, New Hanover County North Carolina. Now I know that Fryar's come from England.. but I am having the Worst time trying to trace my Great Great Grandfather back even to his own parents. I have a lot of Fryar information with every single spelling variation you could want.. and I have the right people and line back to him. But what I can't find are his parents on back. From my Understanding Louis Floyd Fryars parents were James Fryar and Mary E. Fryar. Fryar being her maiden name as well.. but her father was also a James Fryar.. I don't know how.. it makes no sense.. However Louis and all of his siblings listed there father many times as James, Jas, John, Fryar Fryer Frier Friar. and on my own I even found information spelling it Foyer and Freer as well as Fahrer.

now as far as Mary E. goes.. Louis and his siblings listed her as Mary Moore, and Mary Fryar. We were told that her Mother was Esther Blanton and that is where it becomes confusing because Esther Blanton Married James Fryar.. but Mary E. Also married a James Fryar.. and we were told that Louis' Father James Fryars father was named John who married Elizabeth Bland. and that is Mary E. Fryars Family.. Which is making it sound like Mary E. Fryar was having all of these kids with her Dad. UGH!!!.. so if you can help me end this nightmare.. please please let me know..

Oh also to add.. it is written in documents that we have that Mary E. Fryar married a J. Martin Arothky in her daughters house and then a I. W. Skipper which is the last name she had when she passed away.. However I can't explain the Mary E. Moore listing her kids gave or the Mary E. Fryar...

Hi My Great Grandfather was James Fryar. He was born in c1864 and died in 1931. He is buried in Soldierstown Church, Aghalee. He married Ann Jane Robinson. They had 4 sons and a daughter, before Ann Jane died c1916-1918. There appears to be a lots of Fryer/Fryar/Friar in that area. I live in Australia and am having great difficulty in finding any more information on this side of my family, but I'm hoping that this little bit will help you :-)

Fryar/Fryer in Ohio and Northern Indiana

I am looking for family history on the Fryar/Fryer family form Darke Ohio that migrated to Northern Indiana, Wayne and St Joseph Counties.

My greatgrand mother Ethyl Gonser was divorced from Harry Fryar. Since there were bad feelings no family history or stories have been ever discussed from this side of the family. I would love any family history or stories aboutthis family line.

I believe Harry Fryar(1893-1966 Indiana) to be a descendent of the following:

Son of:
Charles G Fryar (1868 - 1945 St Joseph, Indiana)
Margaret Ellen Borton (1867 - 1946 St Joseph, Indiana )

Grandson of
John Fryar (abt 1824 Ohio to aft 1900 St Joseph, Indiana)
Lydia Radabaugh (abt 1832 Indiana or Ohio -Bef 1870 St Joseph, Indian

Great Grandson of
George Fryer (abt 1796 - bef 1846 St Joseph, Indiana)
Elizabeth Weaver (Abt 1796 - aft 1850)

Great Great Grandson of (maybe)
Bennet Fryer (abt 1776 NC - aft 1850 Wayne, Indiana

FRYAR, ELMER E. Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient WW II

FRYAR, ELMER E.

Rank and organization: Private, U .S. Army, Company E, 511th Parachute Infantry, 11th Airborne Division. Place and date: Leyte, Philippine Islands, 8 December 1944. Entered service at: Denver, Colo. Birth: Denver, Colo. G.O. No.: 35, 9 May 1945. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Pvt. Fryar's battalion encountered the enemy strongly entrenched in a position supported by mortars and automatic weapons. The battalion attacked, but in spite of repeated efforts was unable to take the position. Pvt. Fryar's company was ordered to cover the battalion's withdrawal to a more suitable point from which to attack, but the enemy launched a strong counterattack which threatened to cut off the company. Seeing an enemy platoon moving to outflank his company, he moved to higher ground and opened heavy and accurate fire. He was hit, and wounded, but continuing his attack he drove the enemy back with a loss of 27 killed. While withdrawing to overtake his squad, he found a seriously wounded comrade, helped him to the rear, and soon overtook his platoon leader, who was assisting another wounded. While these 4 were moving to rejoin their platoon, an enemy sniper appeared and aimed his weapon at the platoon leader. Pvt. Fryar instantly sprang forward, received the full burst of automatic fire in his own body and fell mortally wounded. With his remaining strength he threw a hand grenade and killed the sniper. Pvt. Fryar's indomitable fighting spirit and extraordinary gallantry above and beyond the call of duty contributed outstandingly to the success of the battalion's withdrawal and its subsequent attack and defeat of the enemy. His heroic action in unhesitatingly giving his own life for his comrade in arms exemplifies the highest tradition of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Manila, The Philippine Islands

Cemetery: A.B.M.C.
Family of Christopher Columbus Fryar b: Aug 1850 MS

Looking for the family of Christopher Columbus Fryar. On census records, he states that he was born in Aug of 1850 in MS. Absolutely cannot find anything about him before his marriage record, 1890 in Hempstead Co., AR, to Martha Alice Rothwell (b: Jan 1875 Hempstead Co., AR). His history is family tradition. Something about being in the gangs that formed after the Civil War, spending time in Mexico, and having a wife and kids in somewhere in W. TX. The family story about his 1st wife and kids is that he caught his wife with another man, shot and killed the man, and fearing revenge, left TX and went into Arkansas, without family. We know that he never spoke of who his family was before being in Arkansas, no names, nothing. My dad told me about 10 yrs ago that his dad told him one time that he felt that his dad (Chris) changed the spelling of our name for some reason. I would be tickled pink to find out who is Chris Fryar's parents and sibs, even the long lost family in TX. If anyone knows anything about the history of Christopher Columbus Fryar, please feel free to email me directly.
Kim Smith, OKC
