I'm having a very difficult time tracing my line of Frybergers. They descend from Christian Fryberger(Freiberger) who immigrated to Pennsylvania from Germany. He was born in Germany around 1814. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, there is a descendant living near White Horse PA who has a box of old photos, many of which are unidentified. You may be interested in seeing them.

In our GEDCOM file, we have a John Henry Fryberger (Frybarger) born about 1870. We, unfortunately do not have his spouse's information or any children. Our John Henry is the son of Sylvester and Sabina (Fellenbaum) Fryberger. He was born in Salisbury Twp., Lancaster County, PA.
The biography of Sylvester Fryberger (Frybarger) is attached to my original post for downloading. It includes a notation about the John Henry Fryberger that we have in our files. John's siblings were: Ellsworth(Ellmer), Laura, Matilda, George M., Sylvester Clayton, Walter Hayes, Mary Emma, Anna M., Mary E.(yes, two marys), Lydia S., and Hannah M..
The biography of Sylvester is printed in "The Biographical Annals of Lancaster County, PA," published by J. H. Beers and Co. 1903 - Author: Begun by John F. Meginness (d.pr. 1903), pgs. 563-564. This biography indicates that John lived in Nankin, Ohio at the time of it's publication (1903). We have not researched John in Ohio at this point. We just obtained the biography last week and will be working on that.
If you have anything to add to the information on John and decide that you are related to this branch of this family, please share the descendency of John so we can add it to our files as well. I can send you the GEDCOM file if you have a family tree maker program to view it. In addition, I can also send you a family report of this family that will be a Microsoft Word formatted file.
Let me know if I can help you further!

-Marlene

George/Sylvester Fryberger (Frybarger) Lancaster County, PA

A message was posted in the Chester County, PA message board as follows:
Posted by Dot Benner Aug 1999 dlbenner@home.com:

George Frybarger/Freiberger/Fryberger arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Commerce on October 9, 1803, with his father Johannes. We've always thought they came from Germany, but a petition signed by George Frybarger in 1835 indicates Switzerland. I have no other information on George's father, either. Additionally, George Frybarger was turned over to a man by the name of John Kurtz to be reared. Does anyone have any information that might shed some light on this? This was in Lancaster County, PA. Thanks for any and all assistance.

It has since been discovered that a descendant of George Frybarger was Sylvester Frybarger. A Biographical Sketch of Sylvester's life is attached - it notes George.

Thought this might help someone. I have a GEDCOM file of this family if anyone is interested.

Please contact me via email as I have some information about my Dad's birth parents, Jacob B. Fryberger and Mary Carter (Cotrel), married 1889 in Dayton, Ohio. My father was born April 3, 1890, and then placed in the county children's home there. When, I don't know for sure. A childless couple, Adam and Sophia Hefti took him to raise on their farm in South Dakota. My Dad was raised with the Hefti name, although he was not formally adopted. It wasn't until after the Heftis both died that Dad found out the names of his birth parents, the mother dying in the late 1890s and the father in 1902. Jacob came to the US from Germany. We don't know when or from what city. Mary was born in Ohio. If we seem to share the same "leafs" on the family tree, I'd like to hear from you.

My dad's birth father was Jacob B. Fryberger of Dayton, Ohio. We don't know when he came to the U.S. or if he was naturalized, although it is possible he was in 1852. He died February 27, 1902. We don't know his birth date, but it probably is 1829 or 1830 in Germany. He came here as a gardner. Hope some of this helps. Also realize there are nine ways of spelling Fryberger.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I know there are nine ways of spelling Fryberger. Frustrating, although the marriage and death records show Fryberger -- which may not be correct either. Oh well, one of these days/years I'll find out when Jacob came to the U.S. from Germany and whether he was ever naturalized. According to the 1900 census, I don't think he became a citizen, but it said he'd lived in the U.S. something like 35 years. Not sure if it was all in Dayton, Ohio. Thanks for the ideas, though, of double-checking the spelling.

Jacob B. Fryberger of Montgomery County, Ohio, was the birth father of my dad, who was born April 3, 1890. As far as I know my father was the only child to live from Jacob and his wife, the former Mary Carter (or Cotrel?), born in Tippecanoe, Ohio. Jacob was an immigrant from Germany and worked as a gardner in Dayton. Any chance you are related?

I'll check with my Mom about grandpa dying in AK...I dont think so, he worked for the state of CA on the highways and died on a road grater in 1959. I also have a pic of John Fryberger(b.1825) and also one of some of his sons (my great uncles) in a beautifully staged picture of them playing cards in Kansas. I am not sure of how to go about getting copies (they are tin types) but I will and get them to you. It is true that my grandmother was named after Clara Barton because my great-grandmother was Ms. Barton's best friend. I will gather what I have and what other info I can gather and keep in touch with you. My aunt on my mother's side is a mormon and has done some work along these lines. Aloha, Don

Don Shamp
Geologist
U.S. Geological Survey
Menlo Park, CA 94025
650-329-5205 (wk)

I am also related to the fryberger?bonewitz line. I have an old photo of both Margaret (Bonewitz) Fryberger and her husband John and the son john and most of the kids....My grandmother was the last born child of John Fryberger from Kansas (they owned a grocery store?) Her name was Clara born in 1901. She married Wilber Dale Shamp and they eventually lived in colorado springs till moving to california in the late 20's. Anyway I have some old documents and several pictures of frybergers going back to the mid 1880s

Sorry, I don't think there is any Hettrick on the Fryberger tree. Sure wish I could find out when Grandpa Jacob B. Fryberger came to the U. S. I do know that after my father was born in 1890, his father was on the 1900 census and said he'd been in the U. S. about 20 years. Guess I'm waiting for a miracle. The more that time passes, the less I'll find an answer to his background. Thanks for responding.

Join us for an August 24-25, 2002 gathering in beautiful Lehigh County, Pennsylvania (1 hour north of Philadelphia).
Thanks for the response, and please excuse me for not replaying sooner. Our Jacob B. Fryberger was married to Mary Carter (Cotrel?) in 1889 in Dayton, Ohio. Doesn't seem to be the same Jacob to which you referred. Thanks anyway.
