JUST CHECKING ON MY FRYE RELATIVES. HOW'S THE SEARCH COMING ALONG// i have not had any luck with LOVEY THORNTON FRYE, JR., WHO LIVES NEAR ME IN D.C. HE IS MY MOTHER'S COUSIN; HOWEVER, SHE'S DECEASED. I AM DEVASTATED THAT THE 1930 D.C. CENSUS PAGE 6B, ED 27 [WITH MY FRYE RELATIVES ON IT] WAS SOMEHOW ERRONEOUSLY DELETED BY ANCESTRY PROGRAMMERS IN 2003. I HAVE BEEN CALLING, AND EMAILING AND WRITING TO ANCESTRY TO HAVE THIS PAGE RESTORED -- TO NO AVAIL. IN THEIR RESPONSES TO ME, THEY DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY; HOWEVER, IF NOT THEM, THEM WHO CAN SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF THIS MISSING PIECE OF MY HERITAGE?? ANY IDEAS, PLS. LET ME KNOW.
Re: FRYE and STITZ in Highland WI c 1920

I live in Minnesota and for years have been under the impression that my great grandmother's last name was Stuetz but just by accident I typed in the name of my great grandfather Frank Jacoby who I knew was married in Minnesota and I came up with a name of Anna Stitz and the marriage date of 2/7/1887 was correct according to my mother who has the family bible from my Anderson/Jacoby heritage. My Grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Jacoby Anderson's mother's name was Anna Stitz and Grandma always claimed that her mother died giving birth because the baby got away. Yaers later when my mom and Dad were cleaning out the house they found the bible that states the baby girl did not die on the day of her birth nor did her mother. My Grandma would have been too young to remember all the details - around 7 I believe and no one knows where Great Grandma Anna was buried. When I found out the correct spelling I went into the familysearch.org site and found out that Anna Stitz had one mother listed in Prussia as Ernestine Wilhelmine Buettner and a father listed as Lorenz Stitz. When I cross checked the 1880 American Census I came across the 1880 detail which lists the father as Lenard Stitz and Margretta Stitz so I am thinking that Ernestine passed away and Lorenz/Lenard remarried Margretta which you acknowledge in the census of 1920. Can you help me? Have you heard of any family member that may have passed away soon after childbirth and where Anna might be buried or are there any Stitz in Iowa or Wisconsin that may be able to help me. my email is: kmp75laker@yahoo.com I will await your response. This is the closest I have come in over 15 years. Frank Jacoby relocated to close to Detroit Lakes, MN and remarried and placed all the children he had with Anna in foster/orphanage setting until they were of age to leave. He went on to have more children with his second wife. Kathy Pederson, Great Grand Daughter of Anna Stitz Jacoby in Minnesota.
15 March 2009: I don’t know if you still are actively searching for info on Hillery and Diadamia Bingham Frye. I tried to send a message earlier this morning, but the whole message disappeared – so if this is a near duplicate, that is why. I am a cousin of Melanie Gabbard. Hillery and Damie were my great-great grandparents. My father, Charles Grubbs used to spend time with his maternal grandfather, Charles Calhoun Frye, when he was a young boy. Dad said that Charles Frye would say that their original family name was not Fry(e), but was SEURRAT. He jokingly called it “Sir Rat”. He also would say that he was descended from Cherokee Indians. I don’t know if any of his was true, but my Dad seemed to think his Grandfather wouldn’t make up such a thing. Lotis Mason, the daughter of Charles Frye’s brother Peter, told me that Zimory Fry(e) was the name of Hillery Frye’s father. There are records of Zimory as a member of the 25th Virginia Cavalry, CSA – he was a prisoner of the Union Army. They spell his name Zimory. Before I ever saw this spelling, I thought it was from the Biblical spelling “Zimri”. Lotis Mason also told me that her father Peter, who would have been my Great-great uncle (I think!), said that the Fryes came from England. These are just some tid-bits of information that might be helpful to someone looking. For all I know, all the missing information may have already been found. If you learn anything, please let me know also. Thanks! V/R
Cheri Tousignant
I see you have a lot of response. I, along with a few others have been working on the Fry/Surratt thing for a bit. I have a family tree that is public that has all of the family back to Zimmery, various spellings. Noticed that a Marty Cast had responded to you also. Seems to be a common thing in the family for the name issue. You may contact me direct at kelly1943@verizon.net and I will add any info that may not be on the tree. It is just called Kelly Family Tree and notes kelly/fry.ayres heritage. Hope to hear from you. E.Kelly Descendant from Zimmery

In the 1850's, a Zimery Fry seems to have changed the family name to Surratt. Marrying again and taking some of the children with him. His first wife Hannah remained with 3 of the children. All of the family with the exception of Zimery seems to have changed the name back. Any information would sure help clear up a lot of questions. Thanks in advance and God Bless
kelly1943@verizon.net
Stephen Thomas Frye Loved by all â€" especially his grandchildren....
Stephen Thomas Frye, age 57, of Edinboro,PA
passed away, Friday, May 8th at Presque Isle Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Erie, Pa., following a brief illness. He was born in Erie, Pa. on May 26, 1951, son of the late Donald Elmer and Anna Mary Keys Frye. He was a 1969 graduate of General McLane High School. Employed at Pennsylvania Electric Motor Service since 1993. His boss, Joseph Pugliese, and other employees always referred to Stephen when there was a problem or question about a job. His years of experience and hard work meant he was the one to ask. His boss was always waiting for that knock on his door when Stephen would ask if he was ready to go to lunch. Joe also said that if it hadn’t been for Steve’s help when opening up the shop, his business would’ve never got off the ground. As hobbies, Stephen loved spending time with his grandchildren, taking them on long walks in the woods and catching lightning bugs with them. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening, hiking and camping, often staying up late at night to play cards with his camping buddies. He also enjoyed his pets and had numerous dogs and cats throughout the years. Married May 12th, 1973 at the Lake City Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Lake City, Pa. Stephen was raised as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and in 1970 he dedicated his life to doing God’s will. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 10th, 1970. He was an active member of the Cambridge Springs, PA congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Very active in door-to-door preaching and teaching work as well as an active member of the Regional Building Committee, a committee organized by Jehovah’s Witnesses to help build Kingdom Halls. He worked in the electrical department there mainly installing lights and exit signs. He also enjoyed joining in preaching in seldom worked territories, where a special effort was made to reach those who lived in remote locations where Jehovah’s Witnesses do not often preach. Survived by wife of 36 years, Kathryn Frye; daughter, Joyce Frye, of Edinboro; son James (Connie) Frye of Moss Point, Miss.; grandsons Joshua, Jacob, and Micah Frye; brothers Michael (Bunny) Frye of Holbrook, Ariz., Timothy (Robin) Frye of Moore, Okla.; Donald (Helen) Frye of Somerset, Pa., and sister Barbara (Sigurd) Case of Frewsburg, N.Y.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces, and other relatives and friends. A memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 10th at 6:00 p.m. at the Cambridge Springs Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 414 McLellan St, Cambridge Springs, Pa. with James Kingsley officiating. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Springs Kingdom Hall, 414 McLellan St. Cambridge Springs, PA 16403.
Searching for dates of birth and death for Charles O. Frye and wife, Vandella M. A. Burke Frye

Searching for dates of birth and death of Charles O. Frye (born September 1859 in New York) and wife, Vandella M. A. Burke Frye (born June 1860 in Alabama). I do not know if there is a series of cemetery books for Tulsa County, Oklahoma or not?

Charle O. Frye and Vandella M. A. Burke were married on 15 May 1878 in Sebastian County, Arkansas, and settled in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri before finally settling in Tulsa County, Oklahoma. Vandella M. A. Burke Frye was a daughter of Elihue Preston Perry Burke (6 April 1836-29 September 1896) and his wife, Miriam/Myriam J. Penninger Burke (born ca. 1841). Records indicate that Charles O. Frye died in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the 1920’s. I think that he and his family were buried in Tulsa County, Oklahoma. The children of Charles O. and Vandella M. A. Burke Frye were: Oscar B. Frye (born ca. 1883 in Missouri); Howard Frye (born ca. 1886 in Missouri); and Roy Frye (born ca. 1888 in Missouri).
I have not been the one to find more information about Hilery Fry and his ancestors, but have collected bits I have received from others. If you did not find what you want, I would be glad to forward it. I have a number of email exchanges with various Fry descendants.

Your post supports what others have discovered about the Surratt (various spellings) connection. People have found them in Tennessee in the 1850 census. If you have not received these bits, I would be glad to send them to you. You can email me at playing55@gmail.com if I can help. I just don't want to duplicate if you already have the info from frank or others.

My father (Hilery's grandson)said he had "an Indian grandmother back there somewhere" but he didn't know, or didn't say how far back or any other information about her. So far, I can find no evidence to support the theory. But I'm still looking! Either way it goes is fine with me. I just love trying to find the puzzle pieces.

Also, I think the Zimery Fry who was in the Civil War was Hilery's brother.

I am always thrilled to "meet" a cousin! I would be glad to send anything I have that would help you and I also would appreciate seeing what you have that I might not have.
Marty

I am wondering if we are of the same FRYE family. My maiden name is also Frye. My father's name is Frank Frye, but not the one you are looking for. I only ever knew my dad, his parents, and his siblings. I am just starting my search and no very little. I do know that most of my dad's family members were said to have lived in Mercer county, Illinois in towns such as Viola, Alexis, and Gilchrist. The other interesting thing about your posts that make me think this may be the same family is that you state they came from England. I do know that my grandfather had some sort of emotional connection to England. As a matter of fact, when he was sick and delirious in the hospital, he didn't know where he really was and instead thought he was in London. If you think there may be something I can tell you, let me know.
