Hi I can be found at mmnowell@oputsnet.com.au - My great grandfather was Frederick Fuge son of William & Ann Fuge.
Some extracts from old files read. Frederick Fuge was born in Devonshire and was brought up to the trade of a stonemason.
In 1863 he landed in Queensland and worked at his trade for one year there and for six months in New south Wales. He then came to Victoria and worked for three months in Melbourne. Next he went to Walhalla where he built the first furnaces and did other mason work until 1880, when he proceeded to Traralgon and selected 320 acres of land on which he does diary faming. In 1885, he built the Sportsman’s Arms Hotel, a building of eight rooms, and now keeps it. He is married to Miss Caroline Barkly, a native of Victoria and has a family of four children.
I would love some information on his family.
many thanks
Margaret Nowell
