"Wilbur W. Furman dies 3 Oct 1944"
Brookland community was very much saddened the morning of October 3rd, to hear of the death of one of it's oldest residents, Wilbur W. Furman, at his home there. He suffered a stroke Thursday, September 28. Mr. Furman was the last survivor of a family of eleven children. He was born at Perry, N.Y. October 15, 1854.
On June 2 1880, he was united in marriage to Nellie E. Atkins of Ulysses, the marriage taking place in the home where Mr. Furman died. To this fine couple were born six children, of whom five are still living. Surviving are: his widow, Mrs. Nellie Furman; five children; Mrs. Minnie Jacobs and Mable Jacobs, of Sweden Valley; Mrs. Grace Newbury and Mrs. Pearl Weaver of Coudersport; Mrs. Ethel Snyder of Brookland. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great granchildren and one great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. He has four grandsons and two great grandsons in the U.S. service.
Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. F. R. Brooks of the Sweden Valley U. B. Church. Prayer will be held at the home at 1:00 p.m. Friday, and at the Sweden Hill Church at 2:00 p.m. Internment will be made in the Sweden Hill Cemetery.
