SYLVA - Alvin D. "Sol" Fullbright, 89, of Old Settlement Road, died

He was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County. He was an
serving 30+ years teaching at Balsam, Johns Creek, Oak Hill, Wilmont, Zion
Hill, Qualla, Webster and Whittier, where he also boarded during the week.
He served as principal at Qualla, Webster, Whittier, retiring while at
Webster. He was a basketball coach, he played basketball with W.C. Teacher
College, was a charter member of Jackson County Athletic Hall of Fame, an
avid fox hunter and a member, deacon, Sunday School teacher and Sunday
School superintendent of Webster Baptist Church.
He was the son of the late Thomas Polk and Ellen Cowan Fullbright. He was
preceded in death by the children's mother, Nell Byrd Fullbright, who died
in 1980, and his second wife, Cathryn Davis Fullbright, who died in 2000;
a son, Bobby Fullbright; and a grandson, Ricky Fullbright.
Surviving are three sons, Jerry Fullbright and his wife Ginger of Sylva,
Kenneth Fullbright and his wife Jean of Weaverville and Alton Fullbright
Winston-Salem; daughters-in-law, Birdean Fullbright of Brevard and Nancy F.Bates of Lexington; a sister, Nan Ross of Greenville
S.C.; a brother,
Monroe Fullbright of Greenville, S.C.; eight grandchildren and six
The funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Melton-Riddle
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray McCall officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
