You are related to all Fulbright/Fullbright's either by blood or History as all fulbrights are not white, We are a very mixed Family right now, THe book you refer to was compilied by Bill Eddleman you cousin. The Cape Gir.earea was settled by Jacob Jr. from the John
William side of the family and John Fulbright from the
Andreas side. The Fulbright Family Reunion will be in
Springfield, MO this year (2006) and in Cape Gir (2007)

My father was born in Cape Girardeau, MO. his name is George Edward Fulbright. His Aunt, Dorothy Fulbright (Dottie), did alot of research of the family history and made a book of it. I was able to meet a relative of mine at Ft. Leonnard Wood, MO at my friend's navy graduation (he was actually my friend's senior officer). We figured out we were related because we both had copies of that blue, black binded family tree book that my Great-Aunt had written. Right now I live in the Dallas-Ft. Let me see now , I am trying to get things straight... this genealogy is " mind boggeling... even when it is close ... I don't think Alfred is the son of Henry. I descend from this line and our family records have Leonard born 1820 from this man. I don't have much on John or Daniel except they all had the same parents.

Johann Wilhelm Fulbright/Volpert was the first Fulbright
he came to America in 1740 and adopted Fulbright as his surname because that is what Volpert means in German.
the family moved to North Carolina in 1769 to Rowan county
which became Lincoln county and then Catawba County NC
parts of the family moved to Haywood county, NC, then to Georgia, Missouri, Indiana, Arkansas, Texas

Dennis Fulbright, age 88, of Batesville, Arkansas passed away Sunday, March 23, 2008. Born on January 25, 1920 in Cushman, Arkansas, he was the son of Herman Fulbright and Edna Glenn Fulbright.
He was a retired farmer, a veteran of the US Army and was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Evelyn Ginn of Cushman; three brothers, Jimmy Fulbright, Don Fulbright and Leon Fulbright all of Cushman; one sister, Merlene Hotel of Batesville; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby Fulbright; one son, Kenneth Fulbright; four brothers and two sisters.

Services are Wednesday, March 26, 2:00 p.m., at the Willis Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville with Terry Sanger and Carl Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery under the direction of Willis Funeral Service of Batesville.

Pallbearers are Billy Bass, Mike Green, Brandon Wood, Roger Slaughter, James Hensley and Dalton Hubbard.

Honorary pallbearers are Coy Fulbright Jr, and James Melton.

Visitation is Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m.

I am a descendant of Daniel Fulbright and Sarah Scoggins from Franklin Co., Ga. My Daniel has also been an enigma, as I can't find where he was born or who his parents were. He was born 3/15/1842 and died 9/20/1910. I have wondered if he was the Daniel in the census you spoke of with the Yanceys. That would have been about the right age. There was another Daniel Fulbright in Franklin Co., but he was born later. In a later census in Franklin Co., I find Daniel with his wife Sarah, and a Matilda Guess- who we think might be his mother. I am trying to contact some distant Fulbright relatives who have moved to Texas and may be able to shed some light. If anything turns up, I'll advise.

New URL for the Fulbright – Fullbright Surname DNA Project

There's a new URL below for the Fulbright-Fullbright Surname Project for our family, a project that I hope you will participate in. Although this genealogy search is an amazing one, it’s also terribly frustrating at times and there are some links that just seem impossible without the science of DNA to help.

Hopefully, we can pull together many of the males in the family who are still with us to get answers about those who are not! Just like me, the females in the family can help by encouraging their male Fulbright / Fullbright relatives to participate (my brother already has his test kit in and the results are almost ready). With the 37 marker test, we can tease apart the different Fulbright lines and I know that many of us would be interested in the answer to those questions.

Hi,

I have a Jane Fulbright from GA in my tree, but she was probably born abt. 1831. I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but truthfully little has apparently been done on the Georgia Fulbright's (in fact, trying to ask anyone about it tends to get you ignored, sadly). I'm not sure if there was some blow up 100 years ago and we're somehow the black sheep, but there are lots of Georgia Fulbright descendents who have all had the same experience. There's tons on the Missouri and the more northern Fulbrights though.

Because of the virtual absence of that research, I've been doing all I can to work on all the Georgia Fulbrights (including my specific line). I've tracked down quite a bit of documentation at this point and will be glad to share it if you'd like. I'm not sure about other Janes, but I will let you know if I find another from our Georgia Fulbrights!

Seeking information on William Fulbright of North Georgia

Fulbright “Cousins” –

I’m at a brick wall – if you know anything about this Fulbright line, I’d appreciate any information you could provide.I’ve tried emailed a few individuals, but sadly never got any reply so hopefully a post will bring some new information.

Searching for: WILLIAM FULBRIGHT
Born abt. July 1852 in Georgia and died aft. 1930 (likely in Franklin Co, GA). The census really added a lot of initials as his middle name, including E., S. and C; but, I believe a man named William Howard Fulbright, Jr. is his son, so….).

Other information that I’ve found:

His wife is listed in the census in various ways, but usually as some version of MARTHA. However, I believe she was actually MARTINA HAYES who was born abt. July 1856 (I believe in Hart Co, GA) and likely died before 1920 (as William is widowed in that census). She was the dau of Harmon H. Hayes b. Mar 1817 in Anderson, SC and d. Apr 7 1980 in Franklin Co, GA (Coroner of Franklin Co for many years) and a Caroline Teat. The dates in her father’s obit match the census data, as does her husband’s name. I can find little information about Martina (Martha) or her father however other than the information in the obit from 1890. William and Martina/Martha apparently married about 1873.

I believe Martina/Martha and William’s children were as follows (dates close/approx):

1. Fulbright, Mary (b. 1878 in Georgia).

2. Fulbright, Holman Freeman (my grandfather; b. Mar 9 1881 in Franklin Co. GA, d. Jan 19 1935 in Stephens Co, GA).

3. Fulbright, William Howard Jr. (b. 29 Jan 1884 in GA, d. approx. 2006 North Carolina)
Fulbright, Effie Bulah (b. Mar 1894 in Franklin Co, GA).

4. Fulbright, Sintha Jane (referred to as S. Jane and Jane in some material) – b. May 1874 in Georgia. Married John A. Collier (1 census shows Callier) abt. 1909.

5. Fulbright, Sam Jones (b. 17 Sep 1901 in Franklin Co, GA, d. 25 Oct 1977 in Lowell, Gaston, North Carolina).

Note. I have information regarding the descendents of Holman Freeman Fulbright (my paternal grandfather, who with Mary Elizabeth Davis had Holman Maxom [Mannon] Fulbright, who married Norma Cowart and had me) and also William Howard Fulbright (since I met him several times during my life).

William’s parentage is a fuzzy issue. The census shows that his mother was Mahala/Mahaly/Meahala who was born sometime between 1810-1815 in North Carolina. The census shows an odd tale – William was apparently living with a family by the name of Yancy/Yancey in Banks Co, GA, which included Alfred/Alford Yancy and various children and perhaps grandchildren when he was 7 years old (1860 census). Also residing with the Yancy’s were 3 of his siblings (Nancy M. who was 5, Willis L. who was 16, and Daniel who was 18). Yet, in the 1870 Census Mahala (mother) shows up and is living with William and Bettie (age 8). Then, Mahala is again living with William (and this time after he’s married Martina/Martha) in the 1880 Census. Mahala is shown as being widowed in 1880 census, but could have been much prior to that. I have no other information on Mahala other than this census data. No father is ever noted, shown, other than the report by his son that he was born in Georgia.

I know that he and Sen. J. William Fulbright met once and compared notes, but I know nothing of the result of that. With my father and his siblings deceased, no one appears to know much of the more distant history.

I have searched many places and while there seems to be a great deal of information and research on some branches of the Fulbright’s, there is virtually nothing on this Georgia branch. I would like to complete this tree to honor my father, now deceased, and to provide a history for my brother’s children. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a book about st john's lutheran church, which is north of conover n.c. on lyles creek, written by Mark Smith and Robert Carpenter, in 1998. It gives a good account of some of our ancestors, of how they lived and worshiped in those early years. Just a few notes; Jacob Fullbright witnessed the deed for the land to build there church and took it to the county seat [lincoln co at this time 1798],to have it recorded, One more note in 1808, Jacob, Barbara, Susana, and Elisabeth Fullbright were confirmed. I 'm new at geno- research, ,But I like to read what other people have wrote. I live in the area where the Fullbright's settled in north carolina. The fullbright's got a land grant 0n elk creek [now lyles creek in catawba county, n.c. in 1765, for 600 acres, William, John, and Jacob Fulbright are listed in the 1790, cencus living on this land. the flowering is things i have researched my-self, They were members of old st paul's church, the oldest church in the area, in the late 1780's they helped start st johns lutheran church on lyles ck, in now catawba co, n.c.they served in responsible position in the church. They served in the patriot cause in this area. Kings Mountion,Ramsour's Mill' and Cow Pens'Battles. these battles was the turning point of the war in this area, the British were defeted in all of the battles. The Fullbrights are in all the census in the same location 1800, 1810, 1820,. I don't know what happend, but some of them left , Jacob, Daniel,and John, moved to ark. The land was sold in 1831, all the land was bought by there neighbors, Davoult Hunsucker, bought 167 acres, and later sold the same land to Nicholas Carpenter [Zimmerman], who sold the same land to his cousin William Carpenter, Who married Catherine Fullbright born dec 21, 1811, and settled on the 167 acres that belonged to the Fullbright's Catherine is shown in the 1820, cencus with william Fullbright, and 1830, with william Fullbright . She married William Carpenter, feb 9, 1832, and in the 1840 census they were living on the same property that was bought from the Fullbright's. Catherine was my G-G- gran mother Howard Carpenter

Janie Fulbright was the wife of Wilborn O'CONNER in Atlanta, Fulton County, GA Census of 1930. His father E.D. spelled their name with an "o" O'CONNOR.

I am a descendant of the O'Conner/O'Connor line and would appreciate any information about this couple.
