I am looking for information on Robert Fullerton, born in 1798 in Belfast, Antrim Ireland. He married a woman named Catherine although there is a lot of speculation on her maiden name, I have found nothing definite.

They had four children, Sarah, Robert, Alexander and John. I am decended from their son John, who married Eliza Jane Simpson. John and Eliza had 11 children. Their son John Simpson Fullerton was my 2nd Great Grandfather. John's son George H, adopted my grandfather, although family rumors claim him as the natural father as well.

I stall at Robert born in 1798, if anyone has any information I would loe to hear it!

Hello, This was a rather old post so I'm hoping this is still your email address. Robert O. is my GGGGGrandfather, I think. My Grandmother was a Fullerton and her father was James Renrick Fullerton. ANYWAY, I live in SC now and I know Robert O died here in Chester Co. Have you any idea where his grave is? I would like very much to visit it since I'm so close. I've looked on the find a grave site with no success. Thank you for anything you might know.

Monica

Re: Looking for John Alfred Fullington Mural Artist

Dear jmobeeman, Thank you so much for responding to my inquiry. Yes I just keep putting the pieces of his life together just like a puzzle. He was in our area in 1949 painting murals in alot of our local churches. According to a newspaper article that was shared in an interview with Lila, he did about 600 paintings all over the US. I've confirmed paintings in Pa, Ohio, Michigan, Alabama and now Florida. I did find his obituary of his death in Vero Beach. He was born in Missouri, married and moved to Texas. Then left that wife and his adopted son and is next found in Alabama where he married again. They divorced and he came to PA and met Lila in Franklin, PA. He led quite an interesting life, living on the road, singing and painting as he went. I have been told his paintings were his testimony and his way of trying to make up for his early years of bad living. Would you be able to send me a picture of your painting? Also, does anyone have a picture of the painting he did in the churches in Florida? If you could email those pictures, I would greatly appreciate it. After I've exhausted all my resources, I hope to put all this information together with as many pictures as I can find, in a book to preserve his art. As the churches age and are closed, destroyed or remodeled, his work is being lost. Again, thank you for responding. My email address is llbarna@windstream.net. If you could, please email the picture to that address. Thank you again.

I know of John Fullerton. I purchased one of Lila's Fullerton's paintings from the estate of Rev & Mrs Arthur M. Estes of Jacksonville, Florida. In the 60's Mr. Fullerton came to Jacksonville after falling on hard times.
He knew my pastor, Rev Estes from Bible school as I remember the story. He painted a beautiful mural in our baptistry in order to pay for his room and board while staying in one of the churhes unoccupied houses. I remember he stored all of his painting supplies in the back of his station wagon. He also gave one of Lila's paintings to Mrs. Estes as a thank you. That is the one I purchased. It was not long after he left Jacksonville he was hit by a car crossing the street in Vero Beach, FL. The mural he painted is in the old Auditoriu of Victory Baptist Church. It has a wall built in front of it now, but the last time I checked it was still there and in good shape. Victory Baptist Church is on Lem Turner Road, Jacksonville, FL. Do you know how many murals Mr. Fullerton painted in churches?
I hope this little information helps.

Fullerton Family

Hi, my great-grandfather was Joe Fullerton from Drumlamph townland in Castledawson who married Julia Kennedy who I also think was from Castledawson. They had children but my grandfather David (Davie)is the only one I can think off if I get anymore names I'll post them up. My grandfather married Alice Mc Garvey and they lived beside the graveyard in Bellaghy. They had 7 boys and 1 girl (2 boys died in infancy). My father is Joe Fullerton also orignally from Bellaghy. My great-grandfather was born in 1890 died 1987.
My great-grandmother Julia Kennedy/Fullerton was born 1894 and died 1936.
My grandfather Davie Fullerton was born 1913 died 1982. If anyone could give me any information on any part of my family I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks

Re: Fullerton Family

I prefer not to dispute comments of this nature, particularly when they were posted a while back, but this statement, as it stands, really needs some qualification to prevent misleading those just beginning their research. The "facts" shown are easily disproven, the statement way too broad, and the context unclear.

For hundreds of years the Fullerton name has been found throughout Scotland and northern Ireland (even in England, in fact,) and found in particular concentrations in Ayr, Arran, and Bute on the west coast and Angus, Kincardine, and Aberdeen on the east coast. The gentry families are often easy to trace because of their inclusion in various books (e.g., Burke's Peerage) and others with no obvious relationship to the gentry can be found by the dozens before 1700. Coincidentally, I've found relatively few in Argyll although I'm sure they were there.

And as far as "most of" the immigration coming through Ontario - total nonsense. Fullertons can be found in heavy concentrations in eastern Pennsylvania and eastern Canada (e.g., Nova Scotia) in the mid-to-late 1700s. My own came through eastern Canada in the late 1700s and have spread throughout North America; others have been just as prolific. And yes, coincidentally I also have found some in my line who immigrated much later from northeast Scotland to Quebec and Ontario in the time frame you mention.

Re: "The Fullertons, fullartons, and Fullingtons of North America" by Gordon Fullerton, 1995, vol 2. Pennsylvania Clan #022MT-1A pag

The book is no longer available for sale. Gordon Fullerton has published a number of versions since roughly 1960 but retired from the project about 2000. The last printed versions were several thousand pages and at least four volumes - it can be found in some large libraries including the Library of Congress and Nova Scotia's library in Halifax. It can also be viewed in microfilm format at the LDS Family History Centers (you'd likely have to have them order the film from SLC.) That said, Gordon passed the project off to Baird Fullerton in the Phoenix AZ area and might be able to offer you some assistance - you can reach him by email at: annbaird (at) cox (dot) net

If you have a limited query, I can offer you a lookup from my 1986 edition but it likely is not up-to-date for your clan.

I am in possession of a book written back in 1853 about the Trial of 58 Chartists on charges of Conspiracy in 1843. Trying to find information on a John Campbell who was a named defendant in a trial of religious persecution. He was found guilty of the 4th count, sentenced to complete financial ruin and before his sentence could be passed he sailed to the US and established him self in Germantown PA. My grandfather and John Campbell's decendent, is Frank B. Camp, an esteemed author during WW1. He changed his name from Campbell in the early 1800's. Does anyone have any information on this Lineage?

Hi Jill,

I would be interested in seeing the photo that you have, so far i have found 4 J.C (John Campbell) Fullerton ancestors, 2 of which where Lieutenants, although i think there years would be out of place with the one you mention. It would make life easier if they didnt all use the same names!!

My Fullertons seem to orginate from Donegal mainly Ramelton, so its likely there is no or very little connection to the family in Bellaghy but you never know.

Ive got back to -
Robert Fullerton
Birth:
16 JUL 1696
Death:
1766 Rathmelton, Donegal, Ireland

But im not sure il get any further than this Robert.

Thanks,
Laura

Re: Nancy Agnes Fullerton of Bellaghy, Northern Ireland

Hello Laura,
I'm not sure this will be of any help, and I only mention it because of the Bellaghy connection, but in 1794 two Downing brothers, the sons of Dawson Downing of Bellaghy and his 1st wife Catherine Fullerton, changed their name to Fullerton in order to inherit from Alexander Fullerton of Ballintoy the uncle of Catherine Downing nee Fullerton who by 1794 had died.

The eldest son was named George Alexander. The youngest was David Fullerton so at the name change he became David Fullerton Fullerton.

George Alexander Fullerton's family has been traced to the present day but nothing is known about David Fullerton Fullerton so much so the present day relations of George had no knowledge of his brother David. But he must have married and had a child as I have a picture with an inscription on the back -

Lieut. J.C. Fullerton R.N. painted by Mrs J.C. Fullerton 10th September 1841.

The picture is difficult to age, but he is round faced with long red sideburns and hair which recedes from the sides up onto the top of his head showing a very wide forehead.

The above year dates are the only two I have. On 26th May 2008 8:27p.m. I posted a longer email entitled
'Fullarton/Fullerton DNA Family Study - Name change from Downing to Fullerton'. Explaining how a Fullerton used to be a Downing.

I hope some of the above helps. Good luck. Jill
