I want to write there and see if they had any records for my great, great uncle, Frederick Schimper, who was the brewmaster there in the 1800s before coming to the U.S. and working for The Daniel Bermes Boulevard Brewery in Hudson County, NJ. My great, great uncle Frederick Schimper was the Brewmaster with the Michael Funck Brewery in Luxembourg. He was quite a respected and distinguished Brewmaser for the famous Hudson County Daniel Bermes Boulevard Brewery for over 30 years.

I am so sorry! I renamed the tree- and it didn't take. Look for the family tree named Dot Com File. That
should be the one.

I have the same problem with the Mentings- John had a son named John- and his borther had a son named John... and so on.
Sorry about the mix up, but you'll find about 1200 names on this tree. Hope it helps.

Hi, I am sure they are probably the same family. I can't find the Lehtola/Menting tree however. Can you give me more info. I know that one of the Lucy Funks in my database married a Menting, so I'm sure it is the same family. It seems like every one of the Funk families had a daughter named Lucy and a son named John. It gets pretty confusing.

Need information on Henry J. Funck/Funk, born abt. Oct. 1877, Spring Valley, Illinois. Parents were John Funck and Barbara Eva Weigand. Henry married Katherine Kern, November 10, 1903, Mackville, Outagamie County, Wis. They had two children. Eunice "Marie" born Sept. 12, 1905, Twp. Harrison, Calumet County, Wis. and Henry, born August 20, 1907, Appleton, Outagamie County, Wis. he died January 14, 1908, Appleton, Wis. "Marie" never married, she died October 10, 1976, Appleton, Wis. Need Date and place of death of Henry J. Funck/Funk. He died between 1907-1913,A rumor has it he died in South Dakota. Katherine Kern Funck remarried to Theodore Loerke. parents of Katherine were John and Maria Deml Kern.

Saturday - July 11, 1903

City Solicitor J. Marshall FUNCK, one of the leading members of the Lebanon
County Bar, committed suicide Tuesday morning by hanging himself in his law
office at Lebanon. He used the leather belt which he wore about his waist and
fastened it to a window lock. Death was due to strangulation and had occurred
some hours before the body was found by his private secretary L. Raymond REIGERT.
The act is believed to have been committed while suffering from a temporarily
deranged mind. Mr. FUNK was 46 years old and is survived by a wife. FUNCK was
counsel for John BROWNSWEIGER, who accused David SHAUD, hanged at Lebanon
this week, of robbing him of $400. This led to the double tragedy for which SHAUD
perished on the gallows. FUNCK believed that the strenuous manner in which he
prosecuted the case against SHAUD led to the double tragedy.

David SHAUD, of Lebanon, who shot and killed Mrs. Ida BECKER and Policeman
Cyrus SHAFFER, was hanged on Tuesday. Before being executed he said he was
peintent and sorry for his crime and prayed for forgiveness. He leaves a widow and
two small children. SHAUD became angry at Mrs. Ida BECKER for testifying
against him in court, and he shot and killed her on the street. When the officer
went to arrest him at his home, SHAUD shot and killed him.

Not related to Funks but helping out a bit a friend on her Funks.

Found in the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin newspaper a Henry Funk who was 40 some years old (cannot make out full age-faded print) who died in Minnesota on Jan 1st 1912. Says his body was beeing brought to Fond du Lac, Wi on Jan 3, 1912 around noon to the Zached? Undertaking Parlor.

Sounds to old to be yours yet WHY was he beeing brought to Fond du Lac from Minnesota? Must be related somehow. Lists no additional info in this article.

Another article says funeral took place 8:45AM from Zacherl Undertaking Parlor Thursday Jan 4th then 9:00 from St Marys Church with Rev Godfrey Wuelffing(SP?) officiating with burial in Calvary cemetary.

I beleive we have the same family here. My g-g-g-Uncle, John Henry Funk/Funck lived in Outagamie County and was married to a Barbara. He died in 1901 in Kaukauna, Outagamie Co. His obituary only lists that he had a son Louis. I had found a little marriage write-up in the paper a while back of John H. Funck and Barbary Weigand that got married in Illinois. I had a feeling this was him, but had no proof. Everything from your message and your followup message, and my records from the courthouse seem to add up. Do you know anymore about this family? I hope you still read the boards.

Looking for Funck/Funk from Wisconsin

Hi,
I am looking for possible relatives. My g-g-g-grandfather was John Funk/Funck. He had four sons, Peter, John Joseph, Chauncey(Jannarius), and Mathias. All but Mathias were born in Luxembourg. They emigrated about 1848 and first settled in Fond du lac County, Wisconsin. Later three of the brothers ended up in Antigo, Langlade Co., Wisconsin. I am looking for any and all information about this family.

Hi Bobbi - From what information I have, which are mostly rembrances from relatives, a lot of my Fun(c)k family lived in the Milwaukee/Racine, and I think the Shawano or Antigo areas. My g-gf John, Sr. was born in about 1855, d. 1931 in Milwaukee (Shorewood). John, Sr.He was from Luxembourg . His second wife's name (my ggm) was Johanna Kuenstle, from Baden. The married about 1893 and together had one child, Gertrude. John Sr.'s children from his first marriage were John Jr. (b. about 1881-84), Morris (Maurice), Louise, Annella (Nellie), Alma, and another child who died as a baby. None of this is verified, just my Aunt's recollections.

Where in Wisconsin did your funk family live? i just found out my G-G-G-Grandfather's name was John Funk. He also had two sons named John.In1860 they lived in Fon du lac county Wisconsin.In 1880 they were living in Calumet county, at that time they were listed as Funck. i would love to here from you, or anyone else who might be related.My John was also from Luxemburg.

Family stories tell that he or his family used to run or own a brewery (Funck Brewery) in Luxemborg. Any leads, especially on the brewery history, would be appreciated. Thanks.

By any chance are you connected with the St. Cloud Bisenius Family of William Bisenius, brother of Mathias Bisenius???
William settled up in St. Cloud about the year 1880 or earlier I think. One or two of his sons attended St. John's at Collegevill, MN I think about the year 1915.

I live in Minnesota, but the Hentges/Bisenius line came to Dupage, County Illinois and moved to Iowa and then to Minnesota, finally settling in Cold Spring, Wakefield Township, Stearns County, Minnesota.

Are you in Illinois or Iowa?

I have been working on the Bisenius family on and off since 1967 and have lots of information including a couple of excellent family sources.

I am not familiar with Nicholas and Mathias Hentges exactly....the best information I had concerned some of my Bisenius Ancestors in Nussbaum, Germany having godparents with that last name.....I might have more info on them....where are you?

Funck/Funk - Temmels, Prussia

I am seeking information on John Funck (perhaps Funk) and Catherine (Leineweber) Funck. I know they were living in Temmels in 1840. According to an extract from the Baptismal Record of the Parish of Temmels, they had one child, Charles Funck born January 23, 1840. I don't know if they had any other children or the names of any other relatives. I believe that Charles immigrated to the U.S. in 1859. That's about all the information I have. Any information would be appreciated.

Having looked through Ancestry.com for my ancestors, I find the oldest record being Wendel Funck Born Circa 1575.
Sharing the same surname and seeing your name mentioned as a contact name, I take this opportunity to send you an e-mail.
I am resident in South Africa and having spoken to my father, it appears, as if, out of two brothers (resident in Kassel Germany mid to late 1800's) one brother went to America and the other to South Africa. The brother on our side was Heinrich Rudolf Funck Born 31/1/1874 in Kassel. He arrived in South Africa sometime in early 1890's, married as local woman (Edith Pauline Johanna Subella Wichura) in Newlands (Cape Town) magistrates court on 26 November 1894. Apparently they had 5 children. Of the five children one is still alive. My Grand Father (1 of 5) Henry Funck was born on the Cape in 1894. He had two sons. The two sons married two sisters (Nee Duncan) after the 2nd World War. Both couples had three children each. On my side three boys and on the other side two boys and one girl. On my side the are four children between the three brothers and on the cousins side there are three children.
Old man Heinrich died some years ago in Bloemfontein (South Africa).
I am able to get more detailed information, if it would be of may use to you.
According to the last surviving daughter of 5 Heinrich's only brother emigrated to the USA at around the same time.

I'm a son of Marie-Marguerite FUNCK of Luxembourg. My great-parents, Gustave FUNCK-DITSCH of Luxembourg told me also that they were related to the FUNCK-BRICHER brewery of Luxembourg (Merged some 10 years ago with BOFFERDING brewery of Bascharage/Luxembourg).
The year 1764 was the beginning of this traditionnal brewery in Luxembourg. On 12 th March 1808 Henri FUNCK married Anne LINDEN from the LINDEN brewery. Her son Mathias FUNCK married Catherine BRICHER, and from that time on the brewery took the name FUNCK-BRICHER.
Henri FUNCK was born 19.10.1775. in Luxembourg, he died 11.12.1853.
Anna LINDEN was born on 11.09.1790., she died on 08.04.1881.
Mathias FUNCK was born on 11.09.1834., he died on 27.09.1915. and was married to Catharina BRICHER born on 26.08.1862.
I am in possession of the Family tree of the FUNCK-LINDEN Family. This tree does not mention a John (Jean) FUNCK as descendant, nor have I found any relation with my mother in this family tree. There was another brewery in Luxembourg, the Henri FUNCK brewery in Clausen/Luxembourg, closed some years ago. I do not know if there is a link with the FUNCK-BRICHER brewery.

Does your research perhaps contain a Nicholai Funch and his wife Barbara Kramer d. 11/11/1891 in Fetschenhof, Luxembourg? Their eldest son, Michael (1851 - 1914) is reported to be only one of his line to emmigrate to the States. He also ran a brewery. Other children of Nicholai and Barbara Funck were:

I am searching for George Funck who resided in Illinois in 1937. Obituary of my g-grandfather's brother from 1937 states that he was survived by a sister Mrs. George Funck of Illinois. I don't have her first name, but she met and married George Funck in Outagamie Co, Appleton, WI around 1897 in Outagamie. I see that the Funcks you are researching also were in Outagamie. There could be a connection between Henry and George. Do you have information on any of these?

I am searching for the wife of George Funck. They resided in Illinois in 1937, and I believe met and possibly married in Appleton, WI (Outagamie Co) around 1897. I believe George Funck's father was John. Janet, I think my husband's ggggrandparents is related to your Susanna Geich from Lellig, Luxembourg. There are only 80 residents there today so there is a good chance. We have a Catharina Geich born abt. 1735 in Lellig who married a Peter Hirt who was a daughter of Barthel Geich ca. 1700 and Gertrude Platz ca. 1700. Peter and Catharina lived and died in Ahn, Luxembourg. I love to find connections, even this remote.

My Angelique Funck was married (1797)to my forefather Mathias Bisenius from Ingendorf, Bitburg. She was a widow of a Binsfeld. Since I am still quite at the beginning of my research, I have gathered quite a lot of information about the Funcks of Bech and Platen , going back as far as early 1650's. I'd like to know more about the fate of those that did not stay in Luxembourg.
