Hello, I am trying to find documentation that lists William B. Funderburk as Louisa Frances Funderburk's father. If anyone has access to the 1860 US Federal Census it would be nice to see who is listed as her parents and siblings as familysearch doesn't show the image for her for that year.

Here are Louisa Frances's Census (it appears she went by Frances):

Louisa Frances Funderburk: (Francis Sapp)

1850 US Census: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M8QJ-5SW
1860 US Census: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MZT8-C2Y
1870 US Census: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MWDS-8XF

1900 US Census: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M3G1-W83
1910 US Census: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MLQX-L82
1920 US Census: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MN1L-CYB

Thank you!!

Looking for descendants of Mary Funderburk of Missouri

I have a photograph of the Embrey family, dated 1891 in St. Clair, Missouri, that I recently purchased at an antique store in Austin. I have done some digging around and figured out that in the photo are William Embrey (1839-1920), Mary Funderburk (1847-1940), and their children, Will, Daisie, Fannie, John, Rose, and Bob. I would like to get this picture to a descendant of this family if possible.

Thanks!

Jaimee

Go to the Tucson library and see if they have the book "Funderburk Castles and Conquests" by Dr. Guy B. Funderburk. On page 249 is Jefferson Lee Funderburk, Sr., father of the Jefferson Lee you mention. J.L., Sr. was a Methodist preacher.

You can Google "Funderburk Crest" or "Funderburk Coat of Arms" and get a picture.

Sandra

I assume Jehu Pope was Hannah's first husband? Any information you might have on Hannah I would appreciate. Who is John Pope, listed as a head of a Cherokee family on the 1800 census in Jefferson County, Tennessee? Is that Jehu's father. I do have a copy of the Guion Miller Application filed by Matilda Vianna Sandusky Smith, daughter of Emanuel and Mary Funderburk Sandusky. I am very interested in the Native American genealogy of this family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I went to a reunion for the Laney's this past weekend and was told the books are all out of print. I would love to find out if anyone is printing another book, and if I can be of any assistance. I just graduated with from North Carolina State University and will have a lot more free time.
Funderburk History Royality

Does anyone know exactly where/how the Berg line of royalty ended? So it appears that most of the Funderburks in the US descended from Adolph Von Der Berg and the Princess Elizabeth Anna and their child John was in line for the crown. My question is, why was he "in line for the crown" and not already wearing the crown since he descends from the House of Berg? I guess I would like to know where this John's crown inheritance ended, was it at William VII of Jülich, 1st Duke of Berg whose sons Adolf, Duke of Jülich-Berg and William VIII of Jülich, Count of Ravensberg took over the crown? They say that Adolph Von Der Berg (John's father) is a descendant of Adolf, (Adolf, Duke of Jülich-Berg) but it appears that this Adolf had no heirs so the above mentioned William, Duke of Jülich-Berg who was Adolf's brother, this William's son Gerhard VII, Duke of Jülich-Berg inherited the crown. Is this where our John's line split from the crown? I just found this quote "He was a descendant of the parents of Adolph von der Burg, the Merchant Prince who moved his dwelling to the Rhine before 1430, and died in Cologne in 1470. The parents of the Merchant Prince ( it is known lived and died at Burg an der
Wupper, which lies at the base of t he high plateau on which the Castle Schloss Burg is located.
Adolph von der Burg, the father of the three brothers who came to America, was also about a nineteenth
generation descendant of Adolph von Ber g, who was born in 1020, the first ruler of the Bergisch Land." Would this quote be accurate?

Adolf I of Berg
Adolf II of Berg
Adolf III of Berg
Adolf IV of Berg
Count Engelbert I of Berg
Adolf VI of Berg
Irmgard of Berg and Henry IV Duke of Limburg
Adolf VII of Berg
Henry of Berg, Lord of Windeck
Margaret of Berg
Margaret of Ravensberg
William VII of Jülich, 1st Duke of Berg

1)Adolf, Duke of Jülich-Berg?
Rupert ?

2)William VIII of Jülich, Count of Ravensberg?
Gerhard VII, Duke of Jülich-Berg?
William IV of Jülich-Berg
Maria of Jülich-Berg and John III the Peaceful
Ok, another question......was John to inherit the crown via his mothers side (Elizabeth Anna) or his fathers (House of Berg)? This does not make sense as for him to inherit from both they would have had to be related right? Elizabeth's father was Phillip Wilhelm who descends from the Berg line correct, and so does Elizabeth's husband Adolph. Maybe I'm reading it wrong....please someoen help me to understand this line.

http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&amp...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berg_%28state%29

Sandra just saw an old post of yours (2002). I am researching the name DEVAULT, do you know where the DeVault name first showed up in your lineage of the Funderburks? Was it a maiden name of an earlier ancestor? Thank you for your help if you even get this message.

On Sept. 12, 2010 I found the Funderburk cemetery located north of Pawnee Illinois. I did see a tombstone with FUNDERBURK at the bottom of the tombstone. This cemetery is very overgrown, and the only way that I found it is a friend said his boss knew where this was located. Sure enough, this friend and I found this cemetery on the above date. Another tombstone had an 1851 date on it. There was another tombstone that only had on it Wyatt Rose, U S Navy. There were other tombstones that were knocked over, and very hard to read. This area is very overgrown, and the only way my friend and I found it was his boss told us the location, and we had to physically find this cemetery. I would be happy to help you in your search. Please contact me at the e-mail listed. Thank you. Dale Elenberger.

Thanks Julie, I have compared your Neals to mine and don't see any apparent connection. My Neal's also started their American journey in PA and then moved to VA though. From what I've been told settlers had to agree to some pretty strict guidelines to be a part of some of the PA settlements and many moved on to areas like VA where they were freer to live as they chose. Thanks again, Joyce

Nancy Isabelle Neal married John Arant b.1825 d.1890. She was much much younger than John Arant. This was his second marriage (his first wife died). Nancy Isabelle Neal was from the Lancaster area. Her ancestors were called O'Neill/Neil/Neal. This name was carried on in the family. My uncle was named Bill Neal Arant. Also, his cousin was called John Neal Cadieu. There is much on this line. Someone in the line published a book.

The first in this line was Abram Neil b.Feb.23, 1775 and died Nov. 16, 1870. He married Agnes Robinson. They had many children. I descend from Abram Neil Jr. b.Sept. 14, 1811 who married Jane McMurrey and eventually married Thomas McCorkle. Nancy Isabelle Neal/Neil was the daughter of Abram Jr. and Jane.

My great-grandmother copied down this line from the Neil family bible.

Hope it helps. Julie

P.S. Elijah Arant who married Anna Funderburk is buried at Spring Hill Baptist Church which is where Hans Devault Funderburk is buried as well. Interesting. Many of the old stones are from Elijah/John Arant's ledger book. Check it out at http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~arantledger. Or google arant ledger.

I'm fascinated by the combination of families you're reporting in the family bibles. I am a descendant of Han Davauld Funderburk. I'm also descended from a couple of different Neal families, one of which lived in Virginia during this time period. I would love to hear what Neals were in the Funderburk family bible because the two families don't connect for many years in my family line...at least I was unaware of any connection.
Joyce

Hello,
I am afraid not. However, there are McManus in the Arant line. Particularly in the Richard Arant b.1817 of Pageland, SC. There were Blakeney and Arant's and McManus' and Houghs in that line. Also, Masseys.

Sorry that I could not be of more help.
Pull up Richard ARant in 1850 census and you will find McManus in his household that have been unaccounted for in other households. These McManus are a mystery.
Chesterfield Co, SC

I have never heard of this. Most interesting. It seemed that I had heard of something similar with another family near the stateline. Coble was my great grandfather attorney. Also, there was some relationship there. It is said that when my great grandfather died in the 1950's that Watha Funderburk, Coble's sister, came to borrow the OLD Arant bible. Back then, people did this in order to copy family lineages, birthdates, etc. My great-grandmother also did this on several of the other lines. This is fortunate b/c those other lines bibles were later destroyed or lost. Anyway, Watha borrowed it b/c it had Funderburks in it. The relationship. The only thing that I have found with research is that Elijah Arant b.1808 married Anna Funderburk. But, it must have shown more Funderburks in the family bible...intermarrying into the Arant family. The Arant bible disappeared after this. I was hoping that someone in that line had copied down the contents of the Arant bible.

JUlie

It would be much easier if you knew a little more about him, such as his full name and his wife's maiden name. You need to start with older family members, ask them questions, write down anything you learn from them. Look for death records, wills, land deeds, etc. You can cneck the census records as well.

Good luck!

After a teary-eyed 1st year, she was the reason that I enjoyed going to school. She was a beautiful person! Looking back, I have to say that she was one of the most influential people in my life.

She taught in SC then moved to Wilmington, NC and retired in the NC school system. She was 82 years old when she passed after living in a retirement home with her sister.

Hello, Thank you so kindly for replying to my inquiry. My family surname is Arant. Of course, some of the first settlers to Chesterfield/Lancaster area were Hans Devault Funderburk, Peter Arant, and the Blakeney families. Of course, they intermarried. Many times, these families exchanged bibles at church to copy down family lineages. My great-grandmother b.1880 did this on the O'Neal family b/c her father-in-law married an O'Neal. Thank goodness that she did because that bible was later destroyed and she copied down the line back to 1730's. When my great-grandfather died in 1950's, a member of the Funderburk family came and borrowed a badly broken and aged Arant bible because it had the Funderburk connections in it. Over the years, the bible (like the O'Neal bible) was lost or destroyed, etc. I know Coble and my great-grandfather, Cheatam Arant, were close. Coble always represented him in court on land deeds, settlements, etc. I have been unsuccessful in finding anyone in this line to ask if they know of any Funderburk/Arant connections and why the Funderburk would borrow the bible. Since my first inquiry, I have discovered that my ancestor, Elijah Arant b.1808-1881 was married to Anna Funderburk (daughter of a Jacob Funderburk). Elijah is buried at Spring Hill Baptist along with many Funderburks.
Are you able or aware of any Arants intermarrying or births or anything in your line? My thanks
Julie
Descendent of John Arant b.1825
Aaron Arant b.1786
Alexander Arant b.1813
Richard Arant b.1817
Martin Arant b.1803
Philip Arant b.1790
Peter Arant b.1755 Pennsylvania

My thanks.

Hello Sandra, your name is familiar but I have so many emails filed related to the Funderburgs, Breedloves, Taylors, etc., that it would take some time to review all of them.

I descend from Isaac's son, John Michael, who married Sarah Pace; then from their daughter, Laura, m. Wm. Jackson Breedlove; to Henrietta Breedlove Harvill - all in Talladega Co., Ala. My daughter and I found John Michael's tombstone in Riser's Chapel cemetery several years ago, along with that of Isaac Shelly Funderburg.

I have very little information on Henry in FTM but I'm sure I have more in the books and information provided to me by others.

If you would like to correspond my email is carolineh@knology.net

Caroline Horton, Prattville, Ala.

She was my Grandmother. I'm not into ancestry searches, but I have both books by Guy Funderburk and a softback book by emily Carnes-Franklin. Jim
