Thanks for your help. She was born in 1859 and so would appear to be the daughter. I wasn't sure about any siblings. Looking at the census record, her mother (I am assuming) appeared to have her at a pretty young age (19 or so?). She married a man by the name of James Sutton.

Do you know when this Catherine was born? The mother of Alison B Stewart was also Catherine and she was married to the original Stewart who came over from Scotland. He was John Boothe Stewart and his wife was Catherine McPherson. John was born in 1794 in Glenmuick, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. As you know Amanda Stewart was Amanda Funk before she married. Allison was indeed born in Pittsburgh PA. Catherine Stewart (the daughter) was born in 1859. I have not done any further research on her since her brother was the direct descendant of the two in our family. Allison is my husband's great-great grandfather. I have been out of touch a bit lately, but will continue to find anything I can on Catherine (both of them).
Thanks to you

Susan

I would be anxious to find out anything else.

Good afternoon. I am researching the Stewart line. One of my wife's ancestors was a Kate/ Catherine who lived in Carroll county Indiana. Catherine married a James A Sutton in Delphi but was apparently born in Illinois according to the census records. Her parents were born in Pennsylvania. I did find in the census records an Alison B and Amanda Stewart with a daughter named Catherine and am now wondering if there might be a linkage to the Funk family in your post.
Thanks

Re: John Aldus Funk

Well....

This is rather interesting. There were a couple of Amanda Funks born in PA around 1841. One appears in the family of a Christian Funk. The other in the family of a John Corwell (spelling might be off) and could be the daughter of the wife, Susan who may have remarried after the death of her husband. At this point, I cannot tell you more or connect the dots.

Allison Stewart was in Illinois when daughter Catherine was born. It would appear that he was married to another woman at the time, unless Amanda went by the name of Anna Bell. Again, not sure. His mother appears to be living with them.

From the 1850 census, his father was John Booth Stewart and his mother was Betsey. So when "Catherine" is listed in a latter census as Mother...is it his mother, or is it Amanda's? Not sure.

More things to look at. What else do you know about Amanda. It would appear she had 11 children...and again, Catherine may not have been her daughter. She may have been a step-daughter.

What else can you give me about either family...the Stewart's or the Funk's? When did Amanda go to Indiana? All these questions and no answers for right now.

Back later if I find something. Let me know what else you might know.

I have Henry 1858-1910 Bergey Funk's Bible and Obituary posted on my Ancestry tree. Do you know the parents of Abraham Funk 1813? I assume he is a descendant of Heinrich Funch 1694-1760 and Anna Meyer but can't connect to the line. Can you help? Note that Eliza Funk 1855-1920 is your Eliza Reed who lived in Ambler with husband Henry W. B. Reed and sister to Abraham and Henry B. Funk. Thanks, the2lagans

Thank you but Ancestry has it online as a resource and I found Descendants of John Funk on p 687 with our Abraham Funk 1813 listed. See http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=genealogy-glh1... . Page 689 lists Henry Bergey Funk 1858 as married to Malinda Kayfos when he was married to Sarah Malinda Seibert 1858. Looking for more documentation of John Funk 1758 as being son of John Funk 1721 and grandson of Bishop Henry Funck, as Rev Fretz lists the connection as 'probable'. Can you help? Thank you

Thank you for your response. Abraham Funk b: 31 Oct 1813 in Bucks Co, PA, d: 14 Aug 1905 in Doylestown, PA is the son of Joseph Funk b: 05 Dec 1786 in Bucks Co., d: 25 Nov 1821 in Springfield Twp., Bucks Co., m: 1812 to unknown Reesor. Joseph is the son of John Funk b: abt. 1758 in Hilltown, Bucks Co., d: 26 Jul 1821 in Springfield Twp., m: to Ester? b: 1754, d: 1842. There is some disagreement about this John Funk's parents; this is stated in the Rev. A.J. Fretz book about the descendents of Heinrich Funck, but it is believed that his father was John Funk b: bet. 1724-1727 in Franconia Twp., Philadelphia Co. (at the time), d: 1807 in Perkasie, Hilltown Twp., Bucks Co., m: Esther Schlichter 1753 in Franconia Twp. John was the oldest son of Heinrich (Henry) Funck and Anna Meyer, as you mentioned in your reply. The Funck's are an old family, going back to the mid 1500's in Switzerland.

Thanks for your assistance with Elizabeth (Funk) Reed.

How does one access the Ancesty tree mentioned in your reply?

Hi Joe:
It's Mary Hamlin's daughter, Charity, Emory Funk's granddaughter. It's been a long, long time since I have seen you. I am very interested in our family's history. I think Uncle Earnest did a great job putting the history of our family (focused on Gottlieb and Edward) together as best he could, but, it sounds like there is a lot of extended family out there that we have, and a lot of questions about lineage. I have a family tree that Uncle Earnest put together and I have the booklet he authored and gave each of us with the information that was posted on this site, along with some other ancedotal bits and pieces of family information. I would like a copy of the family tree that mcfriendlyosx@yahoo.com has, I would like to see what is on it. Do you think you could email it to me? If not, I can contact him myself.
Tell Jean and the rest of the family hello!
Charity Mackley
mackley.charity@yahoo.com
We lived with her for a short while when I was about 15 in Esther, Mo. Her sons had a grocery store there at that time.
She married at Hartman after Benjimin died. I grew up out of Annapolis on Funk Branch when a kid.
email me at> jgfunk@sbcglobal.net and send me your current email as I can send you a Family History chart from Gottlieb, down thru Gustave and Benjamin on down.
