Hi
I really hope this reaches you as I noticed your posting was ages ago.
I have a John Finan, widowed, aged 80, living in Liverpool on 1861 UK census. With him is his daughter Catherine Finan aged 20 and his son John Finan aged 18.
John (junior) goes on to raise a family of his own (Charles, John Thomas, George, William & Samuel) then in 1891 he left his eldest son & family and went with his younger unmarried sons to live with another group of Finans. As they were all coal miners, I’m assuming they moved to wherever there was work available.

These Finans are made up of more than one family, all living in a big tenement block near Barnsley, but amongst them are 3 teenage boys Henry, John and Richard who I suspect may all be sons of John's sister Catherine.

By 1901 John Finan is not at that address (may have died) but Catherine is there herself, now aged 57.
I wonder if there’s a connection here because of the continuation of the names John and Richard? Could my 80-yr old John be either your John Fynan, or his son?
Yours hopefully,
Sally
Hi, My Fyans family went from Ireland to Manchester, Lancashire, England between 1800-1829. Father was Mathew, wife Mary, sons: Richard, Matthew, John, Thomas, Peter. Daugher Mary who married Mr. Savage. Does this ring a bell? I don't know where in Ireland they came from. I have the descendants of this family to about 1901.
Hi Pat, I guess we are 2nd cousins. I am daughter of Vince Fynan, Sr of Moorestown, NJ. And granddaughter of Martin & Lena Fynan of Riverside. Joseph Finan was my great Grandfather also. I saw your posting in Ancestry.com, and was wondering....do you have proof that Joseph Finan came from County Cork; and Anna Kenny from Roscommon? We had the dates & knew they came from Ireland...but nothing that said what part of Ireland. Please contact me if you have any additional information...we have hit a "road-block" in researching these ancestors! Thanks, Donna

Hi Tom,
I guess we are 2nd cousins. My Dad is Vince Fynan; and Herb is his cousin. I don't see your parents too much, but I know of them & my Dad goes to a luncheon with Herb once a month. I've been into this genealogy thing for a few years now, and have hit "roadblocks" as far as the Fynan family is concerned. I found out a lot of info on my Mom's family...but no such luck w/the Fynan's. Really interested in when/why/how Joseph Finan came over fron Ireland...but can't seem to find any info except his marriage certificate which says he's from County Mayo (i think). My Uncle Johnny says he remembers that his parents (Martin & Lena) used to have a shoebox full of letters from Ireland...but he can't remember who they were from or what part of Ireland. And my Dad doesn't remember his parents ever speaking of their ancestors. You probably already know this, but Bill & John Fynan are also into this genealogy...and I got together with Bill to compare notes. However, I probably don't know much more than you already do. But, if you have any add'l info, I'd love to hear from you...or maybe someday we can all get together & compare notes. I have searched the Ellis Island databases & some others trying all variations of the spelling Finan, Fynan, O'Finan, etc...but to no avail. Anyway, it was good to hear from you (even though we've never met)....are u by any chance, Kathy's father? She was a few yrs ahead of me at Holy Cross. Good to hear from you! -Donna
