Forward to njham: re posted message Lorenz Gaar/Jun 2001, FYI- Michael Gaar's and his wife Eliz. Wilhoit are buried at Ruckersville, GA at Van(n)s Creek Baptist Church cem. off, John Rucker Road abt. 20 mi. east of Elberton, GA. Michael re-settled at Van(n)s Creek during approx. 1790 with family including bro. Lewis aka Ludwig Gaar and his wife Catherine Weaver. On 3 Nov 2007 a new US Vet grave marker was set at this cemetery where he is buried with a son, George Gaar and wife Mary aka Polly Rucker a dau. of John Rucker. SAR Compatriot James E. I can give you info on James Allen Gaar.
The Gaar family was one side of my mother's families.
James Allen Gaar died in Ruston, Lincoln, LA and I have the obit from local papers.

Libby The lineage of Gaars you have listed are in Wilkes County GA Early Records and ELBERT Co GA. Michael Daniel Gaar was the only son of John Adam Gaar and Nancy Cornealius Daniels. John Adam Gaar was the son of Michael Gaar and wife Elizabeth Wilhoite Go to Family Trees on Rootsweb and Type in Michael Gaar and find postings by Terry Mann. This is his family.

Hi, in Junior High and High School. I dated a Louis M. Gaar who was 17th generation of a Andre Gar from Bavaria, Germany. Louis lives in Baton Rouge, La. His father was Lewis R. Susan Martha Garr is the sister to my g-g-g-father Winston Broadus who married Sarah Jane Eddy in Johnson County, IN. Their son Benjamin married Laura Morgan, they had 6 sons. My g-g-father was their 2nd born Thomas Ward who married Valarie Robb, My g-father was their son Thomas Franklin who married Nevada Long. My father Thomas Ward married Madelyn Avery who had myself and three older brothers.

I jsut found that Cave Hill Cemetery, the largest in Louisville, has their burial database online and I was finally able to find the resting places of may of my Gaar/Garr ancestors.

There are probably about 50 Gaars & Garrs listed, mostly the descendants of Felix Gaar & Julia Souther (who are also listed). I've added a bunch of them into Findagrave, linked them together and requested photos thru their new "Request a photo" feature.

I'm descended from Felix Gaar's son Staunton Gaar. I have photos of both Staunton and his wife Catherine which I'll be putting on their listings at Findagrave.com later today.

You wrote me about some information that was possibley connected to Eugene Franklin Gaar b 1895 Hinds Co., MS , sister Irene Gaar b 1892. Their parents were Mike Gaar and Lucy Ludlow. I know those aren't their formal names, but that is what Eugene put on his SS application.

His father Joseph Henderson Gaar, married Sarah Elizabeth Still in 1857 and was killed in the Civil War in 1862. His father, Michael Daniel Gaar (1801-1864)- son of John Adam Gaar, was a minister and served as a state legislator and sheriff in Butts Co. Looking for info about the descendants. I believe that this John Adam Gaar was the son of Michael Adam Gaar (b. ~1813), whose parents were Joel Gaar (~1771-1856) and Lucy Head. Joel's parents were Michael Gaar and Elizabeth Wilhoit. Michael Gaar was a Lt. in the Culpeper Co., VA Militia during the Revolutionary War.

This is where our families connect. Joel's brother John Adam Gaar (d. ~1821) moved to Georgia after the Rev. War with his family. This older John Adam Gaar married Nancy C. Daniel and these were my gr-gr-gr-gr grandparents via their only child, Rev. Michael Daniel Gaar (b. ~1801). Let me know if you want more info.

A family book exists (I do not have a copy) identifying Dinkelspuel, Gremany as earliest known area of rresidence. My son was there several years ago, a very brief visit, and was unable to locate any documentation referring to GAAR or GARR. My Ggrandfather was James Allen Gaar, moved to La. from the Atlanta, GA area shortly after mid 1860's.

My grandfather was Eugene Franklin Gaar, born 1895, Hinds Co., MS. He had a sister named Irene.
Parents were Mike Gaar and Lucy Ludlow. We now live in LA and I've been told that the Gaar's at Gaars Mill are related but don't know how. I'm trying to find out about Mike Gaar and having no luck.
