Henry A. Gabay b. 1821 in the Netherlands,came to NYC via England in 1850. He married Mary Maddy about that time. He fathered Algenna and David L. b.1858-9 according to 1860 NY Census. 1870 Census lists children: Alphonso(formerly Algenna), Leullin(formerly David L.), Elizabeth, George, Schriza(later Esperanza), James and Mary.By 1880 also added: Frederick. Frederick is my grandmother's father.
On his petition for citizenship papers his occupation is noted as "Cigars." His later occupations are noted as "segars" and "retail tobacconist."
