MUSCATINE, Iowa - Harvey G. Gabbard, 2698 Northwood Way, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Genesis Hospital, East Campus.

The body has been donated to the University of Iowa Anatomical Program.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Senior Resources Muscatine, or the Musser Public Library.

Mr. Gabbard was born on a farm in Owsley County, Ky., and moved with his family as a boy to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he attended school. He married Roberta Heyn on June 25, 1960, in Cincinnati.
He served with the U.S. Army, 517th Parachute Combat Team and participated in the invasion of France during World War II.

He was a professional mechanical engineer registered in Ohio and Iowa. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He worked as an engineer for the U.S. Government at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1993.

He did volunteer work for Respite and Senior Circle. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and chess.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Gabbard of Muscatine; a son, Steve Gabbard and his wife, Molly, of Boulder, Colo.; a brother, Robert Gabbard and his wife, Donna, of Libertyville, Ill.; and two sisters, Dolly Bain and her husband, Howard, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Joyce Gressler and her husband, Larry, of Fairfield, Ohio
