Henry Gabbard Reuion - Labor Day

On Sunday August 31, we will be attending the Henry Gabbard reuion at the Esaw cemetery, Ricetown, Ky. It is just outside Booneville, in Owsley County. The festivities start about 11 am.

Thomas Gabbard -birth 1863

I am trying to determine if there is a connection between:
Thomas Gabbard Birth: Feb 7, 1863 and Major Thomas H. Gabbard. Major is a first name not a rank.
Major Thomas Gabbard(age 6) shows up in the 1870 Census as the son of Henry H. Gabbard and Mary Ann Harrison Gabbard. There is a marriage record for him in 1883 to Sarah Belle Lamb in the Jackson Co, Ky. records.

There is a 1888 marriage record for Thomas Gabbard to Nancy J. Stedham in the Jackson Co, Ky records.

Thomas and Nancy were the parents of Martha, David, Morris, Charles (1900 Census)

I have found several listings in roots web that connects Major Thomas Gabbard to Nancy Stedham and this family, but I cannot find anything else that confirms he is the same Thomas.

FYI: Nancy Stedham was Nancy J. Baker - her first marriage was to Henry Stedham (also found spelling as Stidman)

Can anyone help me to confirm if these two men are the same?

My Great Grandfather was Louis Gabbard, son of Jacob. His first wife was Lucy "Jane" Bowles/Boles and they had four children before "Jane" passed away. I believe that Louis married Sula Jane Raines next and they had several children. My grandpa was one of Louis and Jane's 4 children and his name is Elijah Leroy Gabbard. He went by the names "Lige" and "Roy" and came to California in 1939 so we lost all contact with our Gabbard family from Arkansas and Kentucky. My mom is Betty Jo Gabbard, b. March 10, 1934 in Texas and is the 6th child of Roy Gabbard and Letty Louise COOPER b. Nov 14,1904 in Soper, OK. Any close cousins out there that would like to chat? My grandpa was married once before my grandma Letty and her name was Viola Putman and they had two Children.

ISO some old family photos that at one time belonged to my cousin's mother, Rose Gabbard. Rose, whose full name was Edith Rosalene Gabbard, was the child of Dewitt Gabbard & Delia Hacker. [Rose married Howard Brackall, who was my grandmother's 1st cousin. Howard's father, William H. Brackall & my grandmother's mother-Lillian Opal Brackall were the children of Charles Brackall & Charlotte Tina Followell.] Rose died in 1995 & at some point before she died I am told she gave most of her family photos to her sister, whose name I don't know. Some of the family photos were of Brackalls.

I am looking for one picture in particular-that was taken about 1911, that had my gr-gr-grandfather Charles Brackall seated & behind him were standing my gr-Uncle William Brackall & his sister gr-Aunt Huldah Brackall. In this photo you can see that Charles Brackall is missing one of his fingers. My gr-grandmother Tina Brackall gave this photo to the Bureau of Pensions during their investigation into her Widow's Pension claim-that's why I know about this photo.

Since William was in the photo, I figured that this would be a photo that Howard might have kept when his father died in 1932 or when his grandmother died in 1952. I don't ever remember seeing a photo like that amongst our family's photos.

DoD Identifies Army Casualties

The Department of Defense announced today the death of 12 soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died in Baghdad, Iraq, on Jan. 20, when the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter they were in crashed.

Killed were: (see link for complete release)

Command Sgt. Maj. Marilyn L. Gabbard, 46, of Polk City, Iowa, who was assigned to Joint Forces Headquarters, Iowa Army National Guard, Camp Dodge, Johnston, Iowa.

The incident is under investigation.

Hi... I have been browsing for Gabbert information, for my daughter's boyfriend, who is a gr grandson of Wesson Bruner Gabbert (Miss/Texas). Near as I have seen, this line goes back (so far) to Thomas Gabbert and Mary Savage.
Ran into some gold mines on genforum, and sent a note to Ira Gabbert. After that came back, I browsed some more and find he passed away early this year. It certainly seems that he had lots of quality information. Is anyone aware of whether his files have been shared with more than his immediate family?
Is anyone familiar with a Shirley Anderson, who also posted info on this immediate group?

Am searching for Cecilia's father. Mother's name was Alice (or Allice Johnson). Cecilia was born in 1928, she had a brother Lem born in 1926. Cecilia passed away in 2001.

My neice married Cecilia's grandson. All he knew about her is that her name was Cecilia. His father knows very little. They didn't know her maiden name until I found his KY Birth Index record. They want to know more, but I have hit a brick wall, without knowing Cecilia's father's name. That could help me find the next census, etc. to fill in some blanks.

Uncle John W. GABBARD passed away at his home on Sandlick, Jan. 17, 1929. He was 72 years old and lived a good religious life and was loved by all who knew him. he leaves a wife, Mrs. Jane GABBARD, and six** boys, Wiley, Wess, Frank, Jessei, and Eli GABBARD. Thee girls, Mrs. Lewis JOHNSON, Mrs. Demmie LAKES, and Mrs. Cap (?) SANDLIN, Three brothers, Ned, Cap (?), and Sherman GABBARD, and three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie HURLEY, Fannie CLEMMONS, and Rosa CLEMMONS to mourn his passing besides a host of relatives and friends. But his loss is eternal gain. He was laid to rest in the Birchlick graveyard and funeral services was conducted by Rev. Wm. LYNCH.

My Great Great Grandfather Blev Gabbard was a Baptist Preacger who lived in Clay County KY. He married Mary Bishop. They had 10 children together; (the oldest girl) Matty, Nancy, Lourie,Florie,(the oldest boy) Wilburn,Robert(aka Bobby Ted), Hoburt, Delburt, George, and Wilson.
Their daughter Nancy married James Bryant they had 3 children Marry Bell, William, and Robert. She moved to Ohio in the 1970's. She died in 1989.

Alice Frymire was 22 yrs. old in 1965.

Also around that time, he (Raymond Dorsey Gabbard) may have owned a 195? Thunderbird.

Do any of you Gabbard researchers have any information on the descendents of Harvey Gabbard, son of Hiram and Mary Jane (Freeman) Gabbard? Harvey was born July 13, 1855 and died July 27,1934 in Owsley Co. Ky. He married Elizabeth Jane "Betsy" West, b. December 28, 1854, d. December 29, 1917, October 10, 1878 in Jackson Co., Ky.

Harvey is buried in Owsley Co. and "Betsy" is buried in Estill Co.

I would be interested in locating some of their descendents for exchanging information and photos if possible.

Listen up guys....The name of Elizabeth's family was Johnston. I have traced them back to Adam of Johnstone in Scotland. Our Johnstons were educated people. Both Elizabeth's father, Dr. Samuel Johnston, and her grandfather, Dr. Samuel Johnston Sr. , were educated at the University of Edinborough in Scotland, so they knew how to spell their names. Dr. Samuel Johnston Sr. was the brother of Gabriel Johnston, first Governor, first US Senator, etc. of North Carolina.

The Johnston Clan was considered the meanest in Scotland. Mary, Queen of Scots (daughter of Henry VIII and his first wife) used the Johnston Clan as her personal body guards because they were considered the best fighting men in Scotland. The Johnstons also originated the "wearing of the Kilts." If they were all that mean who would have said anything.

The name Johnson is English and means "son of John".

One last word for all you descendants of Bill and Liz Gabbard. You are all direct descendants from Pocahantas, Henry VIII (and Mary Boleyn, Anne's sister) William the Conqueror, Charlemagne, and some say Jesus.

Hello, I have recently found this couple to be my GG Grandparents, and have located a couple with the same names married in Laurel County, Kentucky on May 4, 1848. I am almost certain that this is my GG Grandparents, but I cannot find any record of this couples children. I do not have any further ancestors on Catherine Gabbard/Gabbert, but Samuel Metcalf was the son of James Metcalf and Polly Black, in turn the son of Norris Metcalf and Mary Jane Claypool.
