Barnabas Gabel - Are we looking in wrong place?

I have a hunch I would like to follow and need some help. In the 1880 census two of BARNABAS GABEL's children are listed, THOMAS ISRAEL (listed as Thomas O but wife, children, dates, and location all match) and JOHN D (listed on same page a few farms over). What is interesting is that both men give their father's place of birth as VA. (And their mothers is listed as VA as well) My hunch is that maybe we will find BARNABAS in PITTSylvania County Virginia rather than in PENNSylvania. I am especially curious as I have never seen any documentation to support the theory that he came from PA. Perhaps some of you can assist in this search or already know the answer.

I have an original postcard photograph of children posed in what appears to be a church program. There are seven children, ages about 6-10, but only four are named: “M. Westenberger, Helene Gundacker, Leona Gabel, Mabel Henn”. I would like to get this photo back to family of one of the girls in the photo. Photo was taken about 1915 or so, and surely in Fayette Co., IA, for I found all four of the girls in the 1910 Fayette Co. census.

I found Leona Gabel in the 1910 census of Hawkeye (Fayette Co.) IA, age 2, and daughter of Charles and Pauline Gabel.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Leona Gabel.

Gabels from saskatchewan, Canada

Jacob Gabel 1857-1904 and wife Katherina (Schick) Gabel, 1863-1948, daughter of Jonh and Barbara (Schneider) Schick came to the Pheasant Forks N.W.T.(now Saskatchewan) Canada in Aug. 1902, with 5 children born in Austria--Katherina born 1885, Fred 1891, Barbara 1892, Karoline 1895 and Jacob, Jan 14 or 19, 1902. It is believed they came from the Vienna area or maybe Lemberg. Family members recall hearing of Alsace-Lorraine. Jacob died in Sept 1904, after an accident with runaway horses, leaving Katherina with 6 children now. So family history was not a priority for this mother, but survival on a homestead in a new country. So I'm trying to find out if anyone would know where this family came from in Austria. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an original photo of "Irene (Mandmann) Gabel - Mrs. Henry Gable", taken about 1918, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo taken probably in Lincoln Co., WI, and shows Irene in a white dress and veil, similar to either a Communion dress, or maybe a St. Lucia service. She looks to be about age 15-16 in the photo.

I found Irene Gabel, wife of Henry W. Gabel, in the 1930 census for Lincoln Co., WI.
Rosemarie and Francis Gabel, children: David and Michael

I am the grandaughter of a portrait photographer from Dayton, Ohio. Edward and Janet Martin lived and worked in that area all thier lives and had very good friends Rosemarie and Francis. I am doing a great deal of research on my family found an envelope with quite a few great photographs and portraits of them and their children. Francis appears to be a military man sporting a very sharp Army Uniform, Major or LTC. I would love to send them to the children, I think you would enjoy them very much.
David and Michael should be alive and in their early 60's. I can be reached at Tatterhoods@adelphia.net.

Roy & Grace Gabel, born ca 1880s, of Kane Co., IL - also Kathryn Gabel of Alameda Co., CA

I have two grand old photos of Gabel ancestors which I would like to get back in the hands of family members. Each was taken in about 1890-1895, and each is a Cabinet Portrait.

The first is of obvious siblings Roy & Grace Gabel. Roy looks about 8 and Grace about 12. Photo was taken in Aurora, Illinois.

The photo of Kathryn Gabel was taken in Oakland, California, and she looks to be in her upper 20s or possibly early 30s.

If you are related to Roy or Grace or Kathryn Gabel, please email me at margerice@prodigy.net.

Gabel family in Campbell County KY

In researching the Campbell County 1930 census, I discovered a Lllian A. Gabel who must have been born around 1878 if she was 52 for the 1930 census. She has three children listed, Taylor G. and Robert J. (sons) and Isabell L. (daughter) Bertsche (I can not read the census handwriting well enough to be certain of the exact spelling) as living with her, along with a daughter-in law Alice M. Gabel and a son-in-law Carl W. Bertsche and a newly born grandson Carl W. Bertsche. The Census page says" Ft. Thomas city" on the Incorporated place line. Anyone out there recognize these names in their family trees? Because Lillian's two sons and daughter are listed in our family Bible, my guess is she was married to Henry William Gabel, my grandfather(George Charles Gabel)'s brother. So far, I have not been able to locate any other information. I only know that Henry and George's mother was Emma Margaret Dyerson (or possibly Tyerson, Dyrrson, Tyrrson) who was born in Farmington or Hannibal MO and John Jacob Gabel born in Cincinati OH June 5, 1849.

Gabel Family question - Clayton E. Gable?

I am having difficulty in locating Clayton E. Gabel and his wife Alice Hollister. They were my great-grandparents. I belive he was born in 1884, as was Alice, but I am uncertain as to the exact date. I don't know where he was born or where he married but he did die in 1975 in Rock Island, IL. He and Alice had been Methodist Missionaries in India where Clayton ran a technical school. He also worked for the US Corp of Army Engineers on the Mississippi. I can only assume it was the big flood abatment project.

I have no information on siblings or parents.

Any help of advise would be greatly appreciated.

I think if I discover who Clayton's parents are, I will be ablet o connect the line to one of the already explored Gabel geneologies...of definititively rule out a connection.

Thank you,

-Barbara

Hello, all of you Gabels out there! I am planning another big family reunion, for this year, once again! Last year, over 200 showed up, from 11 states, and we had the most wonderful time! This is an actual Eddlemon/Eddleman Gabel Griggs Hundley family reunion. There were quite a few Gables there! My greatgrandmother, Maggie Gabel, would have been quite proud of me! We have a ton of information, that wer are more than willing to share, and hope that you can join us in Yorkville, TN., again this year! Please email me at MemphsQueen@msn.com if you are interested in a personal invitation! Hope to see you there!

Robert Taylor (Paul) Gabel's first marriage was to an Eddleman, his mother Safroina Tucker Gabel second marriage was to an Eddleman, his daughter from second marriage Dora Gabel married an Eddleman, his sister in law, Annie Hundley, two sisters Mary and Alma, and a double first cousin Maggie Gabel, all married Eddlemans. Does this mean anything to anyone.

I have found Joseph GABLE, age 56, in Rusk County, TX, in the 1860 census. His wife is Susanna, age 54, b. IL. Also in the household is Susanna NICHOLAS, age14, b. TN, who might be either a grandchild or Susanna GABLE's daughter from a not too much earlier marriage.
I suspect these people to be relatives of my great-grandmother Elvira GABLE KENNEDY whose mother was born in Illinois and whose father was born in Tennessee. Elvira and her husband and children lived nearby as indicated on that same 1860 census.

Can anyone give me additional information on these GABLEs?

Gabels from Saskatchewan, Canada

Jacob Gabel 1857-1904 and wife Katherina (Schick) Gabel, 1863-1948, daughter of John and Barbara (Schneider) Schick, came to the Pheasant Forks, N.W.T. (now Saskatchewan)Canada in Aug.1902, with 5 children born in Austria-Katherina born 1885, Fred 1891, Barbara 1892, Karoline 1895 and Jacob Jan. 14 or 19, 1902.It is believed they came from the Vienna area or maybe Lemberg. Family members recall hearing of Alsace-Lorraine. Jacob died in Sept.1904, after an accident with runaway horses, leaving Katherina with 6 children now. So family history was not the priority for this mother, but survival on a homestead in a new country. So, I'm trying to find out if anyone would know where this family came from in Austria. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for information on John Gabel (father William and mother Mary, that's all I know about them) and his son Justice Defrand (Defriend), who is my great-grandfather. John was married to Mary Rumble and was born in West virginia. Justice married Ida May Cox. This was in the late 1800's, early 1900's. I found a Bible Record of Missouri on Ancestry which listed the children as Catherine, James Irvin, Martha Jane, Ida A., William B., John, Justice, Hattie Mellissa, Elizabeth Olive and Alice May.

I would be interested in any information concerning any of this family.

Thanks, Susan

John Jacob Gabel or George Charles Gabel

My grandfather, born in 1878, to John Jacob Gabel, was George Charles Gabel. He is somehow related to William Gabel; they both had houses located on a street at right angles to the Ohio River (south side) in, I believe, Covington, KY. I have pictures of the house that William lived in, but we think a flood took out the lower part of the street before the levee was erected. I believe George had a sister named Ida and at least a brother, named Henry. Clifford Gabel may have been George's nephew; I don't know except that name is on the back of pictures my mother has. I know my grandfather and his father were affiliated with the Masonic Order; my mother has papers and a locket of my Grandfather, George, into the Order (not sure if the order was in Covington, Dayton, or Newport, KY.) Can anyone respond that knows of these names? I can be reached via email at kilbourn@ptialaska.net

Aldean Kilbourn
