You need to look at my family tree as I am also a descendant of the Gabler family. I used to go around to Joe's house with my nan, Annie Margaret Phillips nee Gabler as a child. The Gabler family makes great reading!

Dear Mary,
Hallie Helen Fox Kinslow, daughter of Crump and Maggie Fox, was my sister-in-law's grandmother. Hallie's daughter, Jewel Maxine was my sister-in-law's mother. She passed away in October. I am so excited for Dee, mys SIL because she knows very few members of her family. She lives in Memphis now and is a retired teacher....my email address is mary.pike@insightbb.com I would love to have any pictures that you have of your family, especially the ancestors. I am making Dee a book as a gift and it would be wonderful to have those for the book....when I get your email address, I will send it to her if it is OK and you can speak to her personally. She is a wonderful person.

Mary

Who is your sister-in-law, which of Maggie's children is in her line, and where does she live? I have researched all the children of Maggie and Crump Fox and have been trying to locate others interested in this family. Maggie and Crump are my great grandparents. Tell me what information you are looking for and I will see if I have it. I do have one or two photos of them, but I will need your e-mail address to send them to you.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Mary

I am looking for information on Jacob and Patsy Gabler who moved to Larabee and Baker, Kansas from Warren County, Kentucky sometime after 1883....They were my sister-in-law's great great grandparents. She is descended through their daughter, Sarah Margaret "Maggie" Gabler who married Crump Fox in Kentucky in 1883. I would love to see a picture of them if one is available and any other information that any one would have.

mlpike45
I am a descendant of John Christian Gabler who married Sophie Margarethe Kramer in 1797. One of his children named Alexander who married Sarah Blackshire, then Hannah Hopkins or Hopton. Should anyone have additional info on the Gablers, more specifically, John Christian's father Jacob or his grandfather and grandmother Gabler, I would greatly appreciate it. Please email directly to georobjresq@bellsouth.net. Thanks! Sharon Robertson

May GABLER, a hundred year old mystery

Can anyone please help with this mystery? We are trying to trace our grandmother, who we never knew. We know she was of German ancestry and apparently born in New York and married a German man with the last name of GABLER. She had four children with him: 3 daughters and a son in order here: Anna, Thomas, Margarete and Catherine. At age 33 she married Thomas Conde, whom we believe adopted the four children from her previous marriage. They lived in Kings county, New York, Ridgewood area. We would like to know May's maiden name [she also was German] and the name of her husband, surnamed Gabler who hailed from Wuerttemberg, Germany.

We have run into a dead end. Can find no marriage or birth or death records for May, nor can we find the first name of our grandfather. If anyone can help, please contact us and thank you.

Do you have anymore information on Catherine Gollmar who was married to Isaac Gabler? I have her listed as the daughter of Johann Gollmar born Oct 1st 1728 in Oberlinigen Germany and died Jan 24 1764. And Anna Katharine Bauer who was born Jan 28 1730 and died Nov 18 1811. They were married Nov 9 1751. I believe that Johann is the brother to my Gebbard Gollmar who married Christina Kochlein. But that is as far back as I have been able to take them.

Gottlieb appears in MD as Gabler or Gebeler. He and Susanna moved to Sand Lake NY in 1806 where he became a master glass blower at the Rensselaer Glass Works there. His name appears as Godfrey in the 1855 census of Sand Lake and in the cemetery records of Sand Lake Union Cemetery ( he and Susanna appear in both). See the rootsweb.com pages for Rensselaer county NY for these references. The name change and glass industry connection are from the historian in Sand Lake. The family name appears as both Gabler and
Gabeler in those records and from stories my grandmother told, I believe they are all one family. I am decended from Charles Henry Gabeler of Sand Lake and his son Clyde.

I wouldn't mind a copy of the John Christian's naturalization record when you get the chance or if you could fax it to me at (310) 630-3921 or email. Thanks.

As for the intermarrying, your are right. I found connections to Gabler, Rietz, Kramer, Eckhart, & maybe Amelung.

Meanwhile, we have not found out who John Christian Gabler's parents are either. But I have a lead in LDS that may pan out. Stay tuned. If you want, I'll pass it on if your interested.

Frederick Reitz married Margaret Black. Margaret was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Black and Sophia Gabler Black. Sophia was the daughter of John Christian. I went to Frederick, Md. several years ago and found John Christian's naturalization record. It is dated 8/10/1802, At that time on naturalization records the parents names were not recorded. They are recorded after 1900. All the families in the glass manufacturing industry intermarried. Carolyn

Hi Will, Alexander and Sarah had three children: Philarus, Caroline, and Ashbel. Alexander and Hannah had four: Thomas, Edmonia, LeRoy, and Katherine. I am a descendant of LeRoy. The name Caroline goes down thru the generations and my mother named me Carolyn after her Aunt Caroline. Ashbel had five children: Charles, John, Asia, Harry and Mary. Which one is your wife descended from? Waynesburg College has a collection of the glass made in this area. It is very hard to find. I bought a reproduction of a little green glass pitcher from a National Geographic magazine several years ago. I have over 500 descendants of John Christian in my database. Let me know who you are interested in. Carolyn

Hi Carolyn:

My wife is a direct descendent also of Alexander Gabler, but to his first wife Sarah Blackshire who died November 4, 1837 when her son Ashbel was five. How many children did Alexander and Hannah have?

If you could, I would appreciate any and all information you can give me on the Gablers. I want to surprise my wife for our 20th anniversary with as much detailed background as I can get.

I noticed that you live or lived in Greensboro. Do you have any information on Alexander's father John Christian Gabler who was a glass blower? Do they have any glass that he made still around? Can it be purchased if it is available?

Thank you for any help that you can provide.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Will

Dear Carolyn:

Sorry for the delay in answering. I have been going down the other side of my wife's family. Who are strangely written about in a book called The Monongalia Story by Earl Core.

My wife is related to Ashbel's son, John Swearer Gabler who married Mary Olive Cock. They had seven girls two of who died, but one of them Maze Gabler is my wife's grandmother.

We were trying to locate who John Christian Gabler's parents over in Germany are. We have come to a big stopping point on this. Do you know of any of John Christian Gabler's relatives in Germany such as mother, father etc.?

It was kind of funny, but he is also mentioned in The Monongalia Story too. It seems that Earl Core is related to the Reitz family as well as the several of the other German glass blowers.

Hope all is well.

William Brodnos

Dear S Gabeler:

We have not only been researching John Christian's line, but his sisters and brothers. His brother's name is Gottlieb Anton, which I believe became some other first name possibly your Godfrey. Gottlieb was born in Germany in October 8, 1779. He married a Susanna Madery who was born June 13, 1784 in Maryland. They married August 1, 1804 in Frederick, Maryland. We could not find any information on the census after that time because we believed either they died or he changed his name. My husband and I have ordered the marriage and christening film from LDS for Susanna. Do you think this could be your relative? If so, please contact me and I will be happy to send you the Christening record for Gottlieb as well as the information on Susanna when we get it from LDS.

Christoph, I, was born 3/14/1729(30). i do not have any further info
on the siblings of these gabler men, so it might be possible that perhaps your
johann is a distant cousin or uncle to mine? but i have no connections that
lead me to this conclusion.

I'm decended from a clan of Gabler(Gabeler)s in Rensselaer county, NY. Many were glass workers at the Rensselaer Glass works in Sand Lake NY. I suspect that they may have originally come to America with J. F. Amelung to the New Bremen Glass works and some passed through Albert Gallatin's New Geneva Glass works in the Pittsburgh area. John Christian Gabler is mentioned in the history of both of these ventures. I'm curious if Godfrey (b.1781-Germany) could be his son. Godfrey's wife is Susannah (b.1787-Maryland). They moved to Sand Lake the year the glass works there were incorporated(1806).
