Hi Pat -

I found the marriage record for Edmond Gaboriau & Tharsile Miron. 17 April 1866 Notre-Dame, Quebec, Canada

Edmond was the son of Jean-Evangeliste Gaboriau and Sophie Fontaine dit Bienvenu. Tharsile was the daughter of Laurent Miron and Domitille Troye dit Lafranchise. Tharsile was born and baptized 26 September 1842, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

I didn't look for Edmond's birth record yet.

I will send these records to your address.

I do not have any children for them at this time.

Lisa
llepore@comcast.net

I will send this record to your address.

Marie Louise is how her name is written in the family papers I have. However, various sources have also listed her name as Marie-Lucie, Marie-Louise, Lusandy, Lucende, Lucinda. Her DOB is also in question as I have two sources, one claiming 09 Feb 1849 and another Abt 1845. She married Israel Martel 13 Feb 1867, they had nine children, he died 25 Nov 1879, she remarried Dieudonne Savoie 13 Apr 1880. (Marie Louise & Israel's ninth child, Marie Anne Rose was born 11 Mar 1880 AFTER Israel's death.) On the 1881 Canadian census, Marie Louise Gabouriau and her husband Savoie are listed with 3 Savoie children (from his previous marriage) and 3 of the Martel children.

Thank you, but I do know my Edmond was the son of Jean-Evangeliste Gaboriau and Sophie Beinvenu dit Fontaine. He was born in April 1834. Your Marie Louise must have named her sun after her older brother Edmond.

I have 11 children for Jean and Sophie but no Marie Louise. Is it possible she is Marie Lucie born in 1949? I do not have a spouse for Marie Lucie.

I have most of the children of Jean and Sophie Fontaine but no Marie Louise. Now they have a Marie Lucie born 09 Feb 1849 in Chambly. In the 1851 census her name appears as Lucinde. I'm wondering if this is your Marie Louise. I have other siblings born 1842, 1844, 1845, 1847 all with spouses so Lucie seems to be the only one who could be your Marie Louise. Is this a possibility?

Marie Louise Gaboriault (Gabouriau-Lapalme) was born between 1845-1849 in Quebec, Canada to Jean Gaboriault and Sophie Beinvenue/Beinvenu dit Fontaine. She married Joseph-Azael ("Israel") Martel 13 Feb 1867 in Saint-Venant-De-Hereford, Compton County, Quebec. They had nine children, including an "Edmond" who was born Abt 1871, possibly in Michigan. Israel died 25 Nov 1879 and Marie Louise went on to marry Dieudonne (Joseph) Savoie on 13 Apr 1880 in St-Germain-de-Grantham, Quebec, Canada. (Marie-Louise and Israel's daughter, Lucinda Sophia Martel was my gr-gr-grandmother, maternal side.)

My husband's mother was telling me some about the Gabriault family before she passed away this past spring. Edmund and Tassille(Miron)Gabriault, as we knew them, were my husbands great grandparents. All we really knew about them is that they were born in Canada and moved to Calumet, Michigan to raise their family. We also had heard that the name was at one time LaPalme but had no clue how that would be spelled as none of us speak French. I tried to trace the family for her as best I could before she passed away and would like to continue with it now for my husband, sister and our children. Any help would really be appreciated. I am really not sure which direction to look. You can email me directly at pgabri@comcast.net.
Thanks, Pat

Hi, Lisa -

You and Charlene are awesome to help me with this. I found your newest info very interesting because Lucinda Martel named one of her daughters Valida (perhaps after a family member?). But I know that Lucinda was born May 1868 in Canada which means her mum had to be born around 1840's (?). I found one reference to a "Sophronia Lucie Martel" that was born to Israel Martel and Marie-Louise Gaboriault in 1868. Lucinda gave all her daughters very french names which were later changed ("americanized") so I wondered if that was the case with her name as well. Oh, the plot thickens... Thanks again. ~Diann

Diann,

I belong to the New England Historical Society and they are putting the Mass Vital Records to 1910 on line. Mostly they just have the index right now. I guess they will eventually put all the records on line. The genealogical society in Woonsocket, RI has the records but they are closed on Saturdays until the fall or I'd go in and look up the record. You might be able to find someone who could do a look up for you or wait until the fall for me!!!

Charlene

P.S. I notice Lisa has seen your postings - she lives a few towns over from me and is a cousin several times removed - we are related a few generations back with the common relative living in Central Falls, RI

Both were born in Canada and immigrated to the U.S. in different years. Thank you so much for the info!!

~Diann

Hi, Lisa,

Thanks for your reply. Interestingly enough, my Marie Gaboriault's husband (either Calixte Martel or Israel Martel) lived in Central Falls and is buried in Pawtucket, R.I. I'll bet there is a connection somewhere!

~Diann

Charlene - That would be great! I found a Marie Gaboriault (on OneWorldTree) who was a daughter to Gabriel Gaboriault and Regnier Flavie, but I have no idea if it's the 'right' Marie. I also have one source that lists Marie's husband as Calixte Martel. And I have a family story about Marie's husband working in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (possibly at the copper mines in Hancock), and they were returning to Three Rivers, Quebec by boat when my gr-gr-grandmother, Lucinda Sophia Martel was born in a storm on Lake Superior. Don't know if any of this rings a bell... But I'm thankful for your help.

Diane,

I found a marriage on the LDS site - Israel Martel married Marie Louise Gaboriault 13 Feb 1867 in St Venant de Hereford, Compton. I have many Marie Louise born around 1845 but none married to a Martel. I never looked up the women in the St Venant records only the men - just realized that. Will do some more research and see if I can find her parents.

Charlene

Malvina Gaboriault (daughter of Antoine Gaboriault/Lapan and Sophie Gibeau) was born about 1867 and died 8 May 1889 in Rouses Point, New York. (the death was record in the parish records of St Bernard de Lacolle, Quebec - she was 22 at death and indicate she was the wife of Michael Langevin of O'Hare, Mass?? (wherever that is -possible Ware, Ma??). She married Jacob Michael Langevin on 21 April 1884 in St-Valentin, St Jean County, Quebec. I do not have any children listed. I do show Jacob as born 15 January 1861. Hope this helps.

Diann -

I thought I would see if I could find anything else on this Calixte from the city directories while we were waiting on the lookup for Marie and Israel that Charlene is working on. I just found that his wife was Victorine Lafond, so he is definitely a different guy.

I haven't found an Israel Martel in RI, but I found a
Calixte in the 1900 census in Woonsocket. He was 8, son of Telespore and Vidalie. The other children were Alphaise and
Mary Louise, both 20.

We'll have to wait to see what Charlene finds, then we can see if we can tie them to any of these other Central Falls/Pawtucket/Woonsocket Martels [there's lots of them]

Lisa
Celeste Gaboriault QC/VT

I have just made this connection. Celeste,d of Pierre Gaboriault dit Lapalme and Francoise Joubert bapt. 30 Sept 1804, St. Luc was the widow of Blazis Deblois.
Noel used Joseph Laplanche. I found them under the 1850 census as Laplash. Many of them used Frazier. The marriage of their daughter Mary to Edward Nolan cannot be found. Maybe they went back to Canada.Noel and Celeate are listed in the St Mary's in Swanton records as Noel Laplanche and Celeste Gaberal in the marrige of their daughter Angelique.
I do have a copy of Noel and Celaste's marriage records.
Deb
Jansen (Johnson) dit La Palme

I think you may possibly be confusing Charles Dagneau de Quindre b. 1781 m. Sylvie Johnson b. 1797 with his father Charles Stanislaus Dagneau de Quindre dit Fontenay m. Marie Catherine Chene dit Labute. Please contact me at peltierj@cadvison.com and I can provide you with a fair bit of information on Charles m. Sylvie and put you in touch with persons searching for information on Sylvie. So far she has eluded us all. There is lore that she was the daughter of John Johnson, a United Empire Loyalist and an Indian spouse. He was reported to have been a large land owner in Burwash Twp, Ont and a friend of the Indian leader Joseph Brant. The records of St Peter's Parish, Tilbury East Twp, Ont record the burial (or a burial service) Oct 1, 1818 of Silby Johnson who was apparently baptized shortly before her death. She died Sept 9 1818 so the burial was more of a memorial service.

Regards

Jack Peltier
