Scott,
Are you familiar with the book written by D.Gabriel which refrences the Gabriel's from Pennsylvania to Ohio, some to Georgia and after the Civil War some to Missouri? If I get a chance to go to my storage unit I can find a couple of books on the Gabriels and let you know who the author's are. I went through a divorce over 3 years ago and have had to put genealogy on the back burner. Are you the Scott Gabriel from Texas that I have had contact with about 4 years ago, and who was in the Army?

Actually Scott John Gabriel was the son of Jacob Gabel/Gabriel who moved to Catawba County, NC. Jacob was also the father of 8 girls and the youngest child Abaraham. John sold his inheritance to Abraham, moved to Kentucky for about 10 years then to Missouri around 1825 to 1828. He owned a plantation in Boone County, was killed at the age of 70. I have deed records for the sale of land for Jacob Gabel/Gabriel in Catawba County, NC.

I believe it lists Abraham and Jacob's (this is from memory) father as being one Richard Derrick Gabriel, b. 1805 Md. Birth record lists mother's name (can't recall) but no father's.

You can contact me at c_lgabriel@comcast.net.

Beatrice, The problem is, there are several John's in the same area around the same time periods, different father's which causes a huge roadblock with genealogists. In my research I found at least three John's during the same time period, all settled in different areas. I tracked my 4th GreatGrandfather from PA to NC to KY to MO. I also found a Richard, PA, son John, another Jacob, son John, etc. If yu can give more details perhaps one of our fellow genelogists will be able to help you with your ancestor. Happy researching!!

I'm curious about the information on Jacob Gabriel who moved from PA to NC and eldest son John. Do you have a record of the marriage of John? I am a decendent of John's and have been trying to find the marriage record. John, from NC, moved to Kentucky, then to Missouri. His eldest son Jacob is my Great-Great Grandfather. The family settled in Boonville area late 1820's. John remarried in Kentucky and I have that particular record, but have not been able to find a record of his firts marriage. Thanks!

Hi, my great-grandfather Andrew Gabriel went from Pilsen, Bohemia, to Bucyrus, Ohio, circa 1867. Andrew ran a stage line from Pilsen to Prague before he came here and became a farmer and tailor.
There is probably no connection between our families, but if your ancestor came from the Pilsen area of Bohemia, we should look for links.

Dennis Gabriel
dennis_gabriel@hotmail.com

Hi - Thank you very much for the information. Even after all these years, I've never learned more until your post. My connection is to Laura Etta through the Scott side. I didn't realize until I reread my own post that I made a mistake. I meant to say Laura Etta was the daughter of William Scott and Charity Cutter.

I wasn't aware Adolph/Adolphus married again. Do you happen to know if Laura Etta remarried? Or have a death date for her? Or if she & Adolph had children?

I appreciate your willingness to share. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks again,
Berta Flora
Appleton, WI

Oh my god, thankyou so much for that info. That birth date is nearly spot on. I have since found out his birth date is actually 1786. I also have found record of 10 children via the 1841 census (UK), yet there still is absolutely no mention of his wife anywhere. She can't have been long out of the picture, as it looks as though Lyon had a 3 month old at the time of the census. I had no idea he was originally from Amsterdam or why they migrated to England. That was where I was very stuck. Feel free to look at my family tree on geni.com anytime under the name Sue Gabriel. I'm updating as I find new information. Thankyou so much for your reply, you dont know how much I appreciate it. Well actually if you research your family history, you probably do, lol.

Barbara,

The Gabriels in this thread trace to a Jacob Gabriel, who reportedly came to Philadelphia in 1754 aboard the ship Edinburgh, "James Russell, Master, from Rotterdam, last from Cowes; inhabitants from the Palatine and Wirtenberg, Germany." Our initial family history, written in 1936, does not provide any details on whether Jacob followed relatives to Pennsylvania, or why he decided to move on and end up settling in what is now Catawba County, NC.
