Buchetto Family

Hi - I'm in search of any Buchetto information. My grandparents were John & Raphael Buchetto and there were approximately 12 kids in the family with only 1 living to date (2005).

This is my first attempt at Ancestory.com and am finding it a little difficult to use. We were born and raised in Stamford and my father (who is now deceased) was Rocco G. Buchetto, Sr. In our immediate family I have 4 older sisters and 3 brothers, who reside in Connecticut as well.

I'm just trying to figure out how to do Family Tree and also to see if we have any other family members, who possibly live in other states than the ones that I know about.

Thanks and any help would be appreciated. My personal email account is rhammershoy@sbcglobal.net - Any information can be emailed to this address.

Thanks again, Renee Buchetto-Hammershoy

Searching for Gabrielli relatives from Cortona, Toscana. My grandfather, Attilio Gabrielli, was born on 13 December 1884 and immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900's. His family owned a chestnut plantation in Cortona, and they also raised horses. Attilio had a brother who lived in Italy. Please leave a reply on the message board if you have any information.

Your ancestors from Tuscany

Hi Jose,

I looked it up, and Borgo a Mozzano is in Tuscany. Pietro was born around the same time my great-grandfather was probably born. I don't know where he was born, but he lived in Cortona. My grandfather Attilio died in Providence RI in 1934. At that time, he had a brother who lived in Cortona. I believe his brother was still alive around 1938-1939 - we lost contact with the family after that.

Attilio came to the U.S. via New York sometime before 1920. I **think** my grandmother told me he came here with his brother, but I'm not entirely sure. My mother believes Attilio had only one brother and he lived in Cortona, so perhaps this same brother came to New York with Attilio and then returned to Cortona - but this is just speculation on my part.

Jose, do you know if Pietro had any brothers and sisters in Italy? Do you know their first/middle names? What about your father's first name? It's very common for the children to be named after their ancestors. For example, you could have an ancestor named Joseph (Giuseppe). I was named after my Uncle John Joseph (born Giovanni Giuseppe). Some other names in my family are Antonio and Mario. I don't know if these names are from the Gabrielli side or not.

Write back if you know of any more info on your family! I look forward to hearing from you again.

Your grandfather from Tuscany

Hi Steve,

There's always the possibility! My grandfather Attilio came to the U.S. via New York sometime before 1920, which is close to the time your grandfather arrived. Check out the message I got from Jose (and my reply back to him), his great-grandfather was named Pietro (**Peter**) and he was born around the same time as my great-grandfather. You should definitely ask your father if he remembers the town your grandfather Peter came from. Does he remember any of the Italian relatives' first/middle names? What about their occupations? You should ask him if they ever spoke of a chestnut plantation or farm. I wish my father or grandmother were still alive so I could get more info from them!

Reply back if you get any more info, and we can compare notes.

Bucetto Cortona are near Arezzo, Tuscany

Hi Steve,

I found Bucetto and it's VERY CLOSE to Cortona where my grandfather Attilio is from - go look it up. (Nearest big town is "Arezzo Tuscany"). Your gr-grandfather was probably born around the same time as Attilio - they could be cousins. I'm guessing your grandfather gr-grandfather immigrated to the U.S. at the same time (around 1920)?

The name Archangelo fits well with Gabrielli since the Angel Gabriel was an archangel. Do you speak Italian? I need to learn so I can write to Italy to try to get Attilio's birth certificate info or baptism records which would list his parent's names.

Attilio settled in R.I. and that's where my family still lives, but I live in FL now. I've never been to Long Island but have been to Block Island (RI) which is right near Montauk, L.I.

I did a global search on the Italy World Gen Web and found a Francesco Archangelo Gabrielli b.1859 married in Giuliano di Roma. I bet the name Archangelo was fairly common for a Gabrielli, so that may not be helpful. It turns out most of my family names are all very common so they probably won't be helpful either.

Happy hunting, I'll keep you posted if I get any more info, and hope you do the same.

Joan

Hi Steve,

How are you doing with your family research? I hit the brick wall a while back, but finally got some new info to work with. My grandfather Attilio is from Santa Caterina, Cortona, Toscana. I'm not sure if that's a village or a church parish. I also learned that my great-grandparents were Giovanni and Stella Gabrielli of Cortona.

Let me know if these new names and places ring a bell with you. Good luck with your research, and hope to hear from you soon.

Joan

Our family

I was born in Frascati, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1950. I posses a large volume of every Gabrielli listed in the world as of 1989. I was very much into geneology at that time but have just retaken up the search, the joys of a computer, i love it. Perhaps we can go through my lists and find some one who can help in our search, maybe we are distant cousins.I want you to know that the gabrielli name is a bastardization of the original name Gabrillo and with time it became Gabriello , aka of the Gabrillo clan, and then Gabrielli, those that belonged to or decended from Gabriello

Hi Joan,
Thanks for the info. If you send me an e-mail with the letter you need to send to Italy, I have a friend at work that can translate it into Italian. I could then e-mail it back to you. Yes, I believe that my grandfather came to the US with his father. I think it was around 1912.

Steve G.

Hi Joan,
Here is what I know. My grandfather Albert Peter Gabrielli was born in 1907. He had 2 brothers, Anthony and Frank, they were born in the US. He had 3 sisters. Ida, Mary, Rita. Mary was born in Italy. I Know he came to the US around 1911. I think the town was called ( I am not sure of the spelling, so I will spell it how it sounds), BU-CHETTO.
My Great-GrandFather was: Micheal-Arcangelo Gabrielli, I am not sure if it was spelled like that. He was married to Margert. I will have to check her madian name. Only Ida is alive today. Talk to you soon.

Steve Gabrielli
P.S. Where are you from? I am on Long Island. NY
