While my Gabrielsen ancestors first settled in Chicago, then moved to Minnesota shortly after the Great Chicago Fire (1878), that isn't too much of a stretch. Also, ironically, my Grandmother, Agnes, began using Gabriel for her last name in the late 1800's/early 1900's. She was a teacher in Little Falls, MN. Don't know if that was a family thing, or if she was just being unique. (My family has a history of corrupting our names.) Her parents were Gunhild and Nicolai Gabrielsen from Trondheim, Norway. They had 13 children, of which my Grandmother was number 12. She died in 1926 from Tuberculosis, when my dear Mother was only three. Notice any connections?
