"In the name of God amen I John Gaddis Sr. of the County of Randolph and the State of North Carolina, being sick and on a weak station of health but of a perfect and sound mind and memory and calling to mind the mortality of mankind that it was once apart for all men to die and I do commend my soul to God who gave it to and my body to the Earth to be buried at the Descretion of my administrators or Executiors in a Christian manner then my desire is that all my just debts be paid of my Estate and as to the rest of my Estate Both real and personal I give and bequeath as follows then I leave to My beloved wife Rebecca Gaddis her lifetime the Plantation where on I now live and all my personal property and after her decease the land is to be divided as follows between my two younger sons to wit Zebedee and Noah to run as follows the Big prong of Jacksons Creek is to be the line between them To them and their heirs forever then my desire is that my Daughter Polly Gaddis is to have my desk and the rest of the property about the House is to be Equally Divided between her and Rebecca Laughlin.
Then I give to my son Anzel Gaddis fifty cents to him and his heirs forever. Then I give to my son John Gaddis one note on Archibald Gaddis and James Gaddis for one Hundred Dollars and (?) and if this cannot be collected he is to have Sixty Dollars out of my Estate to make him equal with Anzil and to come out of the part that I give to Zebedee and Noah Gaddis Then my desire is that if my mare should have a colt it is to belong to Noah Gaddis and the colt that Zebedee now claims is to his after that my wife Rebeccas Gaddis is done with it then my desire is that my daughter Polly Gaddis is to have possession and privileges of my big house as long as she lives single. Revoking all former wills here before made by me in witness whereof I the said John Gaddis Sr. have this the 18th day of November 1833 affixed my seal, signed sealed and delivered published by the testator (?) in the presence of the subscribers.
