The Washington County Historical Society's Genealogical Research Center Library has the following: A letter dated March 8, 1855 from James and Betsy Gaddy of Gaddeysville, NC. It was written to their unnamed children by a person named H.K.E.J. Davis. It is two pages in length and includes the following names: Nelly, Nelly's child, Uncle Allen Gaddy, Aunt Caty Jones, Uncle John D. Jones, , Jerry Water's widow, and Polly(recently married). We susepct that the letter is from James and Betsey Gaddy who had the following children: Elizabeth C. Gaddy (b. 1841), John T. Gaddy (b. 1838), Charity A. Gaddy (b. 1843), Mary Gaddy (b. 1845), Julia A. Gaddy (b. 1847), Francis L. Gaddy (b. 1850), and Roxanna Gaddy (b. 1853). The letter was found in an old safe at the Genealogy Research Center which was once the County Jail.
