Surnames: Gaede, Prehm or Prehn
My Great-grandfather was Otis Gaede....however, family members in that line (born in America) were: my grandmother Minnie born and lived 99 years in Galena, KS, (1894-1994). Her four siblings were one sister Maude, two brothers: Earnest and Don O. and a child of her brother Earnest is still living in KS., named Louise Gaede Matthews. Louise had a brother named Earney Max Gaede, who had a son named the same who resides in KS also. I was told that my grandmother had an uncle who came to the Joplin, MO area from Germany, around 1845, from near Prussia named Otto Prehm or Prehn. He is buried in Joplin, MO. I recently visited the port museum at Galveston, TX and the Rosenberg library there, where I viewed microfilm of the port records. It gives very limited information regarding Otto 'Prehn' but does list a Gaede family, arriving years later. I found what I believe to be a mis-transcription in those records at the port museum, when I viewed the port records on microfilm at the library. Records at the museum stated that the 'Gaede' destination was Medford, OR and in my opinion the microfilm records indicate it written as Redford, OKla. and I think that is more likely the truth. If you think there might be a connection with our decendants, please reply. Thanks.
