Hi there,
I've just started researching my family tree and noticed that Michael Gaffaney from NZ may have the same relatives as me. Can I just ask if your great grandfather Michael Gaffaney was from Belper, England and settled in Temuka, NZ??? Would be great to hear from you and maybe get some more info.
Cheers,
Jo

Hello Michael,

My 2nd Great Grandmother was Bridget Gaffney. 1835-1892. She was from Ireland and married a Forestal in NY. He was from a family of "Coopers" and worked the salt industry in Syracuse NY mid 1800's. Not sure about the additional "a" you speak of except I have found many spelling errors over the years for many of the names I research. I would go with either until you can confirm. I will try adding the "a" to my searches. What sort of records do you have? Hope this note finds you well!!

John Taylor
Connecticut USA

To Teresa
Greetings from New Zealand.Michael seems to be a popular Gaffaney name.My great grandfather's name was Michael he came to New Zealand in 1858 aged 18yrs. with his brother Frank. Not clear before that nor where the spelling with an 'a' after the 'f' came from as records in Ireland all seem to spell name as Gaffney. Any ideas?
