Floyd Gage who was in Colonia Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico 1924

Floyd Gage who was in Colonia Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico in 1924. He could have come from New Mexico with a group who in 1922 brought down 3,000 steers and 300 horses to increase the herds and return them to New Mexico for a government sales contract. My father Jim Lafferty was one of the men that went down there. My father also known as Santiago Lafferty stayed in that area buying and selling cattle until 1942. Dad left photos and among them is a Floyd Gage taken 10 January 1924 in Colonia Dublan. He looks to be in his 30's and his eyes look a very light blue and he has blond or sandy color hair. He may be related to the Lafferty / Lipsey / Frances clan. I put the photo on Ancientfaces.com. I will share a better scan of the picture with anyone who is interested.

Would you mind contacting me at my regular email address? It is jdevkar@gmail.com I have lots of questions for you and lots of information on the Haynes family, much more than it would be appropriate for this forum. I descend from a Thomas Haynes and Mary Ann Walker Haynes and believe that "Collis" Haynes is actually their son, Thomas Haynes. I'll try to give you much more explanation in future. I think that "Collis" is probably an error by the enumerator.

Thanks, Jane

If you are still researching this line, I'd be most interested to know if you have more information on Thomas Haynes (1839 - 1875) and Almira Higus Haynes (ca. 1847 - ?) If I am correct, these are the parents of Ella Mae Gage of Cedar Rapids IA. I am researching her parents and other members of the Haynes family.

Hope you are still working on this family!

Bonnie,
Have you had any luck? Jonathan Gage is very difficult. My mother pointed to Nancy Elizabeth Gage Phillips (a granddaughter to Jonathan) in a photograph and said she had Indian blood. After studying Jonathan for a while I am thinking she may be correct. He stayed close to the Berryhill's for many years and they had Creek blood, perhaps his wife, Elizabeth was a Berryhill. Proof will be hard to come by. You probably know that Jonathan died in Cherokee County, TX.
Donna

Roy or LeRoy Gage born Kaw Reservation, Oaklahoma 1870-80 Est

Looking for any information. My grandfather was Thomas Edwin Hill born 21 Aug 1907 to Elizabeth William Hill (b 11 Nov 1887 Arkansas). On my grandfathers passport application in 1935, he listed his father as LeRoy Gage born Kaw Reservation, Oaklahoma and living in Arkansas City, KS.

On a supplemental passport application in 1958, he listed his father as Roy Gage, deceased. (Whether he was deceased or not is a mystery as well, may have been a rift). I don't even know what year LeRoy/Roy was born other than to guess the 1870-1880's. It is believed that my great-grandmother was not allowed to marry LeRoy/Roy Gage and after my grandfather was born, her family picked up and moved to California.

I have lots of other family data, just a dead end at the mysterious LeRoy/Roy Gage.

If anybody has any info, I would love to hear it!

This message is a little late in coming. Just found your message today. David Gage was my great great grandfather by way of Thomas Rusk Gage (his son) then John Monroe Gage (TRG's son) and my dad Floyd Hays Gage, Sr. I have a rough drawn map obtained from a relative probably ten years ago that shows where David is supposed to be buried on the family property in Rusk County. I think it's a real shame any grave marker left is apparently gone. I don't know why he didn't have a more stately burial. My dad and I tried to find it but could not locate it some years ago. If you have located his grave could you please let me know. Thanks Brenda Gage

I am researching Robert Gage, born in Ireland in 1841 and emigrating as a boy to Kingston, Ontario, Canada, where he became an architect, practicing in the mid 1870s to late 1880s. At that point, he left for Riverside California to join his brother, Matthew (1844-1916), a jeweler from Kingston, who built irrigation canals in Riverside from 1881. I do not know Robert's year of death but, in the 1920 census, he and his wife Mary seem to be still alive in Oneida NY. At the time of Matthew's death in 1916, Robert lived in Utica NY. If this sound like your ancestors, please contact me at mckendryXkos.net but substitute @ for the X. (the actual email address invites spam) Thanks, Jennifer McKendry, Kingston

Yes I am. I have a Collis Haynes (1840 England - died in railway accident after 1870), not Thomas, who married Almira Higus (1845 Penn-?). He was a railroad engineer according to the census (1870 Census IA Linn Cedar Rapids Ward 1 pg 132). Note that his neighbor is Andrew Hygus (1824 Penn), a Station Engineer, who is Almira's father (see also 1860 IA Linn Cedar Rapids pg 144 where she is in his Higus household). They had three girls, Birdie, Ella May, and Minnie.

Ella May still has several grandchildren living, two of whom have mtDNA samples (that match!) in the Family Tree DNA database in case you have someone you can test in the maternal line from either Ella May Haynes Gage or Almira Higus Haynes. I don't know any farther back than that, but I am overdue to go quiz my cousin (who grew up on the Gage dairy farm in Dallas and only recently closed it down) about all things Gage and Haynes. Anything you know might help me with questions for him.
