I believe Pierre was born to Lucien's wife Catherine Cartier while Marcel and Medard were born to 2nd wife Sophie Regnier of Napierville. The family lived in St. Valentin Quebec near Napierville. Some decendents may be in Oregon as well as Washington.

I am trying to follow my father's family, possibly not at all related, but who knows. My greatX2 grandfather and his family came from Canada. The name on the census was Gonia, but they couldn't speak or write English, so that is the name that the census taker gave them from their pronounciation. This name was also changed to Gonyer. They lived in Wood County, Ohio. His name was Peter, and his wife was Anna. This is the first time I have heard anyone say that the name Gagnon was changed to Gonyer.

Any info would be greately appreciated. kayse1953@yahoo.com

I'm interested in the Gagnon brothers, Pierre (Pete), Marcel, and Madard, sons of Lucien Gagnon of Quebec. Lucien was quite famous, but died pennyless after trying to start a rebellion. His sons made to it the Walla Walla are after his death in 1842. Marcel married my great-grandmother Rosalee Dauphin in 1864 and I know some of their children's names.
Anyone have more information on these 3 brothers?

You have a much stronger grasp of your lineage then I do of mine. Back to my ggg grandfather

Jeff Zenk
Robert Zenk + Marsue Neaterour
Ruth Stewart + Paul Zenk
Rose Gagnon + Alexander Stewart
Peter Gagnon + Lizzie Mertes
Pierre (Peter) Gagnon + Bridgette Touhy
Pierre Gagnon + ???
Pierre Gagnon + ???

The last two Pierre's are strictly from word of mouth as I have no documentation to back it up. As the story goes, Pierre was a shipbuilder and title holder in or near Nantes just prior to the Revolution. He had "gotten wind" of what was happening and made his escape with his family to London. After some time had passed, he wrote back to see when he could reclaim his land, business, etc. and was told that if he came back, he would get what was coming to him! At that point, seeing no recourse, he uprooted the family again this time coming to Quebec.

Exploration is good, Patrick! While your Gagnon lineage comes through Maine, do you know where they came prior to that? My Michigan Gagnons came down from Quebec, Canada. THOSE Gagnons came from London after escaping from France around the time of the French Revolution.

Only there wasn't much information on either of them. not like it is today, and it was a legal adoption. I was very happy to read that the law changed and adoption records are no longer sealed. That ment so much to so many, but it would not have helped me.My sincerest thanks for contacting me Regards ,Joan

There was a wrong filiation given to William Gagnon. His father was not Rémi Gagnon married to Rousseau. Actually he was born in Grande Baie, Charlevoix,Québec son of Daniel Gagnon. His son Valmore Gagnon is the one represented on the stone for which I thank you for sharing a photo.

Louise
