I may have some info because I have some of the names you have. But my Henry Lee Gainey was md to Zill/Zilda at time of death. They had a son named Author born abt 1898. Could this be the same family? If you'd like we can discuss more in detail, my address is: donalitt@sbcglobal.net
Thanks.

I know my grandfather was Authur Lee Gainey & my G-grantfather was Henry Lee Gainey, who was married to Melita Ann Grooms at the time of his death. I'm fairly new to this website and I am in search for anyone with any infomation about my relatives, or anyone who might be one! I don't know much about my father's side of the family except a few details that I've come across..
I was always told they had some sort of Indian in the Gainey side of the family! From all the records I'm finding .. it's telling me different! I know my grandfather is from Angelus, South Carolina (Chesterfield County) and then moved to Lancaster,SC later in life. If anyone has any tiny bit of insite into my past, could you please contact me. If you think you might know who Dee Gainey is or any relatives of his..please let me know! Thanks so much..
Niki

I ran into the names Stephen and James but nothing that identified them or tied them to each other or others except there location in Town Creek Township, Brunswick County, NC. I would love to have copies of any documents that show the relationship from Stephen thru Henry Morris born 1833. Henry Morris is my children's great-grandfather. Is this possible and what would be the cost? Thanks! Cynthia

Gainey Family in Winona

This is a long shot but I was reading the Gainey posts on this board and thought I'd take a chance and leave an inquiry. I am looking for information on the Gainey family from Winona that possibly had a daughter that had a child out of wedlock back in 1932 and gave it up for adoption. If anyone knows any information on this girl I would appreciate it if you would contact me. It's kind of a long story but I believe my aunt and uncle adopted this child and would like to clarify some facts. Three years ago, after many, many phone calls and letters, I was granted permission to see the childs birth certificate by the State of Minnesota but Winona County has been dragging their feet in getting me the information. I can be reached at: Trish3185@tds.net
Please contact me. Thank you, Patty Betlach Russell

Thank you. These are some of the names I have. I didn't have Rebecca but have a Bertha. Also didn't have Huston. According to 1910 census Henry Lee was md to Barrelle at that time who was 27 years old. I suspect that Lefron and William P. were from another marriage given their ages of 23 and 18. I have a page (303) titled, "Young American Patriots" (with Lancaster County at bottom of the sheet) stating that Woodrow Gainey is son of the late Mr and Mrs Henry Lee GAINEY. My link comes by way of Zill/Zella. How about you? Thanks again.
donna

I understand perfectly about having other things to enjoy. I could kick myself because several years ago a descendant of Henry Lee GAINEY's contacted me and I was SO SURE that we were not researching the same family or shared a link that I lost touch with her.
I hope to locate Zella'd death certificate when we go back to SC/NC this summer. Hopefully will find Henry Lee's too and prove or disprove who his parents are.
Did I mention that Zella was my grandfather's sister? Looking forward to staying in touch.
donna
donna

Lewis and Hannah Ganey - NC

According to Baptismal records from St. James Epis. Church in New Hanover Co., NC Lewis and Hannah had 3 children christened there: John Calvin Ganey, born 12 Sept 1818; Stephen Ganey, born 26 Dec 1820 and Harriet, born 29 Oct 1824.
I believe they lived across the river in Brunswick County, At least there are census records there for a Lewis Ganey there.
John Calvin married Catherine Swain 22 Feb 1842 according to family records (probably in Brunswick County, NC). By 1850 John was in Pulaski County, Ga with children born in NC and GA.

I am seeking more information on Lewis and Hannah. There is a Lewis and Johanna Ganey in Brunswick county in 1850 but she is too young to be the mother of John, Stephen and Harriet. I suspect Hannah may have died and Lewis remarried.

Also need information on Stephen, Harriet and John's wife, Catherine Swain.

All replies appreciated.

Whit Gainey
Cottondale, FL
