I am interested in learning more about the Gaiter family that was feautred in an article about family reunions on Today on August 25th, 2006.
Please e-mail me with a contact where I can communicate with someone who knows more about the family history, reported on in "Life magazine, which featured the Gaiter-Gaines-Black-Russell family in an article about family reunions in its Friday issue.

In addition to McGregor's presentation, the reunion featured Buford Gaiter telling the story of the family's American origins, having arrived on a slave ship from Africa in the late 1700s. Instead of trading the slaves, the ship's captain, Ambrose Gaiter, bought their freedom and gave them his name. The Gaineses, Blacks and Russells would marry into the Gaiter lineage in the early 1800s. Buford, a genealogist, has traced the family name as far back as 15th-century England. "
Thank you! This search is on behalf of my history professor at Woodland Community College in Woodland, CA.
