Thank you so much for your response.
Do you have the birth and death year of Dimitrios? I know very little about my grandfather, but he was a lot older than my grandmother (25years?)so could have had a family in Greece before he left for Africa or after he returned to Limni. He could have been born any time from 1869 to 1895.
I have no idea if he was involved with a restaurant in Limni after her returned.
I have a photograph of him with another man who looks a lot like him. My cousin told me years ago that this was his brother and that they were in Belgian Congo together for a while. This would have been in the early 1900s. I don't know his brother's name, but interesting that your grandmother's brother died in Belgium.
My father was Arthur Galanis (his father called him Thanassi). My uncle was Andrea Galanis, and he travelled to Limni when the war ended to see his father, and again in about 1967 (his father had already died but he visited other family including Sophia and Haris). My aunt Marina was the eldest. Relatives in Limni wrote to all 3 families in South Africa in the 1960s.
Regarding property - I don't know what property my grandfather owned, only that both my father and Andrea inherited land in Limni from Demetrius, but they signed over ownership to family who were living on the properties at the time.
Do you have anyone who lived in Limni between 1933 and 1970 who could tell you if any of this sounds familiar?
I will really appreciate any information you can give me.
