Found your post and recognised some of the Galbraith names. My granny was Annie Galbraith, my mother was Mhairi Laing ( father Herbert Laing) and her cousins were Bob, Colin,Alex, Dick, Amy and April. Margaret and Mhairi Macdougall were also cousins.
John Galbraith was around my age - 61 now. Think his dad was Colin?

I helped Margaret MacDougall and Mairi in their guesthouse and my mum's aunt Ellen owned Ardcarroch too.

Olivia Elizabeth Galbraith was born 19th of May 1824. She was baptized on June 2nd at St. George Parish in Dublin. Parents were James and Olivia Galbraith.

Looking for Richard Galbraith who married Margaret Smyth or Smith. They were in Scotland - Kilbirnie, Ayrshire in 1841 but we know that they were born in Ireland as were most of their children.I cannot find births or marriage for them although we think Richard was born around 1798 and Margaret similar time. I have copies of their deaths in Scotland but can find not trace in Irish records. Anyone linked? One son Richard, married a Janet Barber and they moved to Hull, East Yorks. The Galbraiths were mainly connected with either steelworks or iron ship building, boilermaking etc. At a loss now to trace 4th great granparents.

There is an Elizabeth J. Galbaith (born 1859), married a Mr. Fulton and had two daughters, Jennie C. (born 1883) and Mae E. (born 1885). Elizabeth's father, James was born in
Ireland and came here in 1854. Her father (James Galbraith) had a carpet
mfg. and textil business, which was later called Somerset
Mills in Phila., PA. All of this info is from the 1880 and 1900 census, 1930 and 1940 census records. Would there be a connection? Thanks, Alice

I am looking for information on the ancestry of John Kenneth Galbraith (american economist). My grandmother was a Galbraith from the Niagara region in Ontario, Canada and had said that he was a "cousin" of hers and that he had attended family reunions. She never said/knew what the family relationship was and I have not been able to confirm the connection from my family to his.

Hello, I am looking for any information on my ancestor Eliza Jane Galbraith. She was born in Scotland (Glasgow I believe) in the year 1830, moved to Ireland (Galway I think) and from there to Philadelphia PA where she died after 1880. I have g.g.grandparents Robert and Maria Galbraith, who came to the Orangeville, Ontario area (Garafraxa Township) circa 1850. I have calculated dates for their births (1813 and 1814 respectively). AFAIK, they came from county Tyrone, Ireland.

I am seeking more information on Robert and Maria. In particular, I would very much like to know Maria's maiden name and the place and date of her marriage to Robert. Naturally, if I can learn more of their lineage (I have nothing on their parents, at the moment) it would be great!

Catherine Winn/Wynn Minton Galbraith 1804-1859

Have any Galbraith researchers done much research on Catherine Winn, the wife of Aeneas Sharp Galbraith Sr? I am looking for her birth parents' names and if anyone knows the first name of the Catherine's reported first husband with the surname of Minton. Also what is the source of that marriage information with Minton? Where was she listed as Mrs. Catherine Minton in the records?

I know that Catherine and Aeneas were married in Floyd County, IN...it seems after they had some children together. Why there? There are some Winn families living in Harrison County, IN near Floyd, IN that originally came from VA through KY before Indiana. Perhaps she belongs to that line?

I have also found a James Minton that married a ? Winn in Claiborne County, TN before 1820. James was reported to be a son of Ebenezer Minton of Washington County, VA who died in TN. (The Galbraiths lived in Washington County, VA at one time.) James Minton and ? Winn reportedly had a son named Calvin Minton in 1821 in VA although I haven't found the source linking Calvin with James and ? Winn. Calvin Minton was married in Roane County, TN, lived in Morgan County, IN in 1850 and then moved to Iowa and Missouri before he passed away in Oklahoma in 1900. I am assuming that if this ? Winn was Catherine that Calvin was raised by one of his uncles (a couple of them lived in Roane, TN). Parts of Roane County were once Hawkins County I believe so this scenario is plausible.

Can someone please share what the source is for the widely held birth date of Arthur Galbraith of 14 Mar 1727 in Lancaster, PA (other than what is written on the Clan Galbraith site)?

I am wondering if Arthur was really born in PA given there is no record of him for so many years from his reported birth until the land warrant in 1766 in Shaver's Creek and his marriage to Mary Martin Sharp in 1768. Perhaps he was born in Ireland or Scotland? Since his DNA aligns with Hugh Gilbreath b abt 1842 from Ireland, perhaps he came from there?

Hi Laura- We are 3rd cousins. Like Marilyn Cook, I descend from Tighlman Galbraith, Oscar Bruce Galbraith's brother.

Can you tell me if any of your mom's siblings are still alive? Also, did she have a sister named Virginia? Some trees have her as a sibling but I haven't found any evidence of someone named Virginia.

I have John Galbraith Hancock, Morris Robinson Hancock, Ida Lenore Hancock, Alberta Jean Hancock, Richard Edwin Hancock, Julius Alton Hancock, June Waltrude Hancock, James Lloyd Hancock, Audrey Helena Hancock, Phyllis Armine Hancock, and your mom Sarah Hancock.

Hi I am George Booth's Grandson who was from Belfast. I think George Galbraith was his uncle. He had a brother John and a niece Phyllis in Canada. He has a son Brian and met his wife Ethel in Chesterfield during the war. I know he had dealing with greyhounds in Belfast but not much else so any info would be gratefully received.

I descend from David Davis and Nancy Ann Patrick. David's parents were William Davis and Olivia Galbraith from Tryone. David Davis and Nancy Ann Patrick left Ireland and settled in South March, Ontario. They are buried in the Lowrey Cemetery there. (Close to Ottawa)

Helen 1st married Joseph Cecil Howard (1905-1971) in Logan Co., CO, in 1928. They had a son, Harry Thomas. They divorced

Helen 2nd married Eugene C. Swallow (1908-1966) in Red Lodge, Montana in 1950. They divorced in 1961.

Helen was living in Thermopolis, Hot Springs Co., Wyoming when she and Swallow divorced. I'm guessing she remarried.

I am looking for Mary Alice Galbraith's Mother and father. She was born in 1896 I think. She Married John Allen, not sure what year. She had four children with him. I believe he died. She then married Thomas Calvin Stoddard, My Grandfather and had two more children. (sons) One of which is my father.I believe she died in 1969 in California.

I am sure we are related to this group somehow but not sure just how. My earliest confirmed research shows my ancestors Robert Galbraith (later of Pittsburgh) and Perthinia Finley Galbraith having a baby, James Galbraith, born in Straban (Gettysburgh) in 1785. According to the Clan Galbraith DNA testing, we are in the same DNA group as the James Galbraith who came to PA in 1718 and settled in Donnegal, PA.

According to other family trees, John's full name was Heber John Allen & she was also known as Mary Ellen Davis??. According to the marriage license for Heber J Allen & Mary Ellen Davis in 1919, she was from Salt Lake City, Utah. The 1930 US Census states they were married when Mary was 15 yrs old which is the same year of the license/marriage of Allen to Davis. Also, most trees state Heber John Allen was married 2-3 times and died in 1957. I would question if this is the same John Allen you are looking for.

You need to get a copy of her death
certificate which should tell you
where she was born.
I am not sure it it would show her
parents names.

I am not sure what state Mary was born. The(6) Allen children are Parley, Vaughn, Annie, Roberta, Donna, and Rosalie,she died in 1950 in a car accident. She also had a daughter (a love child). The two boys are (Byron Frank my father) and Uncle Tommy.So Nine in all. My Father is still alive but has Alzheimer's and can't really remember much. He was born in 1936 in Salt Lake City Utah. I would love to be able to tell my brothers and sister about their Grandparents. My Father and mother divorced when i was only three years old. So I rally can't tell you any more details. A little bit more information would make it easier to help you out.
Any idea what state she might have been born in ?
You say she had 4 children with John Allen, do you know any of there names ?
You say she had 2 children with Thomas Stoddard, what are there names ?
You say 1 of those children who your father, when was he born, where was he born, is he still living (if not when and where did he die) ?
